It wasn't that long ago that it seemed like White players were injured disproportionately more than black ones, especially WRs, but in recent years the trend has reversed and these days it often seems to be one injury prone black player after another turning up on injury reports (though Whites still seem to get injured more at receiver than any other position, likely due to the tendency of some black DBs to head-hunt them).

This isn't meant to be scientific, but I was just scanning the injury report on a fantasy site for today, August 8th. 23 of the 25 players listed are black, or 92%, a startling number even for a league that's about two-thirds black every season, seemingly in perpetuity, due to the extremist affirmative action policies pursued by the NFL. The high rate of injury prone blacks can be attributed to more poorly conditioned players, bad work habits (these two are obviously connected), and a shrinking pool of qualified black players despite the league's determination to keep the number of black players so artificially elevated.

DB Smith has knee injury: S Reggie Smith suffered a torn meniscus in one of his knees and will miss a couple of weeks, according to The Sacramento Bee. That would explain his ominous tweets from Sunday evening and Smith’s inability to participate in walk-throughs on Monday morning.

Wilson expected to play in 2011: Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson has a torn right biceps tendon and will try to rehabilitate the injury to avoid surgery that would sideline him for a longer period. Coach Ken Whisenhunt would give no timetable for Wilson's return other than to say he expects the four-time Pro Bowler to play this season. "That's one thing that is encouraging," Whisenhunt said. "It's just going to be a matter of how his body responds to the rehab. So far it's been very good." Wilson didn't talk to reporters after Monday morning's practice but reportedly has told people that he believes he will be ready for the team's Sept. 11 opener against Carolina. The 31-year-old Wilson, who has played all 10 of his NFL seasons with Arizona, was injured in Saturday's scrimmage while attempting to tackle running back Beanie Wells.

This one's comical. Most DWFs were certain Burress would pick up right where he left off three years ago. After all, he's one of the race of athletic supermen.

New York Jets WR Plaxico Burress (ankle) has yet to be cleared for action after rolling his left ankle last week. He took early repetitions in practice Monday, Aug. 8, and sat out for the rest.

Ray Edwards is the DE who kept the more talented Brian Robison on the bench for four years in Minnesota -- actually it's much more accurate to say that the Vikings coaches used Edwards as their reason for keeping Robison in a backup role -- and then signed for big money with Atlanta, moving Kroy Biermann to a lesser role. But maybe not for long:

Falcons DE Ray Edwards had "minor" knee surgery during the offseason. Edwards' camp certainly did a good job of keeping this quiet. He just landed a five-year, $30 million contract in free agency, but hasn't even done any hitting in camp. Depending on exactly what kind of procedure Edwards had, he could end up rotating with Kroy Biermann more than expected to stay fresh. Edwards won't play in Friday's preseason opener.

The Eagles sign WR Steve Smith from the Giants, maybe because of Maclin's continuing mystery illness. Smith himself missed most of last season and will likely begin this season on the PUP list. He might be a threat to whatever playing time Riley Cooper's gonna get, but I'm not too worried about it at this point. If Maclin misses regular season time, Cooper is the logical choice to start in his place but who knows with Fat Bastard. At least he did start Kevin Curtis outside for a couple of seasons.

Chad Hall is said to get some early action at WR in this week’s game. We’ll see if he and Riley can get on the field at the same time. Here’s a little primer for this week’s game:

Troup cracks hand, now in cast: Bills rookie DT Torell Troup cracked his hand in Monday's practice and he will be in a cast for the near future, reports the team's official website. “I think it just got caught in (Eric) Wood’s shoulder pads,â€￾ Troup told Buffalobills.com. “I went to long arm him and I couldn’t really tell when it happened. I just went back to the sideline and I just felt the pain. I thought I may have jammed a finger or something, but they told me I had to go get it x-rayed.â€￾Troup will be in a cast for a few weeks, but it should be ready to be removed by the time the season starts.

He's not a rookie, but he is another sumo that's on the road to Bustville. I remember some of the "draftniks" saying, "while we may like this guy, the Bills' still reached for him."

Batch out for season with ACL tear: Multiple sources are reporting and confirming that Steelers rookie RB Baron Batch tore his ACL during Wednesday's practice while cutting on the turf practice field. "Field Turf - that's why we don't want it at Heinz Field. He made a cut; see what happened," QB Ben Roethlisberger said. Batch was impressing in camp and he had the chance to be the team's third-down back.

Thug Bernard Scott can't stay healthy. I'm still hoping that Brian Leonard becomes this year's "accidental running back."

Bengals RB Bernard Scott has missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Scott is too often nicked up, which is why the coaching staff has been hesitant to hand him a major offensive role. Though he's the Bengals' most explosive outside runner, Scott won't have fantasy value barring an injury to Cedric Benson.

Uh oh..

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1114035/david-gettis

Gettis tears ACL, done for year: The Panthers official website reports Thursday that coach Ron Rivera said WR David Gettis has a torn ACL, which would end his season. He twisted his left knee during Wednesday night's practice, and the extent of the injury was not known until he underwent an MRI on earlier Thursday. "It's disappointing because the young man really showed," said Rivera. "He had a good last few days. He's got a bright future. Whatever it entails, he'll get it right and we'll have him ready to go when he's ready."

He has received hype already, as some of you may know, but the hype-machine was absolutely ready to launch him into the "stratosphere"...

One week into training camp and all the Broncos black wide receivers are already injured :icon_rolleyes::

Just when a position appears loaded, football has a way of beating home the point that a team never has enough.

More than any other position, the Broncos need some wide receivers. The position so stacked last season that prized rookies Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker couldn't get much playing time is the same position that's sinking to the bottom of the depth chart to find fresh legs.

Thomas is out indefinitely with a torn Achilles tendon. Eddie Royal has been out the past week with soreness in the hip that wasn't surgically repaired during the offseason. Britt Davis suffered a knee injury in Denver's preseason opener Thursday night at Dallas. Mark Dell, perhaps the most impressive member of the Broncos' large group of undrafted rookies, suffered a serious knee injury in the game against the Cowboys and was waived/injured.

Also, No. 1 wide receiver Brandon Lloyd missed half a practice last week because of knee swelling, and Matt Willis missed some practice time Saturday because of preseason game-related bumps and bruises.

At tight end, Richard Quinn is out two to four weeks because of a strained medial collateral ligament.

Are the Broncos concerned about the wide receiver position?

"Long-term, no," said first-year Denver coach John Fox. "Short-term, yes."

"Falcons NT Peters carted off with leg injury By Steve Wyche |
Published: August 14th, 2011 | Tags: Corey Peters, Atlanta Falcons, Mike Smith, Peria Jerry
Atlanta Falcons starting nose tackle Corey Peters was carted off the practice field with an apparent lower left leg injury on Sunday.

Head coach Mike Smith said he did not have an immediate update.

If Peters, a second-year player who established himself as a rookie, is unable to return soon, former first-round pick Peria Jerry is expected to step in. "

I am guessing Jerry is a huge bust if he can only see the field due to injury

Perma-injured in college, and now is injured again..

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/565129/corey-wootton

Report: Wootton out for a month: Bears DE Corey Wootton will be out at least four weeks due to the knee injury he suffered on the opening kickoff Saturday, The Chicago Tribune reported Sunday. Without Wootton, a thin defensive end corps is further depleted. Former Jet Vernon Gholston, who has not stood out in camp, will have a better chance to make the team. Wootton injured the knee in Saturday's preseason game against Buffalo.

Stephen Cooper to miss the season

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/396787/stephen-cooper

Cooper expected to miss season: Chargers ILB Stephen Cooper tore a muscle in a bicep during Sunday’s preseason game against the Cowboys and will miss the 2011 season, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Cooper will undergo surgery and will miss two to three months. The paper also speculates that his career in San Diego is also over.
(Updated 08/22/2011)

I feel that he has been pushed (by the MSM) as a "feel good" story just like Gary Brackett. Also, both aren't the biggest guys. However, with starter's reps, there are literally dozens' of White athletes that would have outproduced Cooper during his prime years. There's no doubt that the MSM was pushing him as a "star".. which is a stretch.

Two more superior athletes that play a position that whites apparently can't go down with injuries. How sad. Terrell Thomas and Brian Witherspoon for the Gints both go down to torn ACL's. Wow, the CB position is getting thinner and thinner by the day. Of course, whites are forced out of the position in high school, and any HS CB is either ignored or switched, no matter how spectacular they are at the position. No agenda there, it's all a meritocracy, just move along.........

and the Raiders will get black(er)

Raiders LB Travis Goethel is expected to miss the 2011 season after tearing a knee ligament.

Goethel will need surgery, ostensibly to repair an ACL tear. The 2010 sixth-round pick had been running as the second-team middle linebacker after offseason indications that he could compete for the starting weak-side job. Goethel should be back to compete for a reserve spot next season. Meanwhile, the Raiders could revisit Lofa Tatupu or even Kirk Morrison.

The tubby - Brandon Siler - is done for the season

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/502403/brandon-siler

Siler done for year with Achilles' tear: Chiefs LB Brandon Siler, who signed with the team on Aug. 1, had surgery to repair a torn Achilles' tendon after suffering the injury during the week. His agent, David Canter, confirmed the injury in a text message to The Associated Press on Wednesday. "We're both beside ourselves upset," Canter said. Siler was competing for the middle linebacker spot alongside Derrick Johnson, but his season is over before it started.

Javon Ringer stands to gain the most if Chris Johnson's holdout continues into the regular season, but of course he can't stay healthy:

Javon Ringer (hip) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Bears. Ringer has missed six straight practices, but coach Mike Munchak believes he can make up for lost time as long as he plays against the Saints in the preseason finale. The Titans, meanwhile, are looking to add another back for depth with Chris Johnson holding out.

Skins' rookie DL - Jarvis Jenkins - injured his knee early in the Baltimore/Washington preseason game. It doesn't sound too serious right now.

Here's an update on 50-year-old Randall Cobb's status! http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1632091/randall-cobb

Cobb to miss start of season?: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Packers rookie WR Randall Cobb is in danger of missing the start of the regular season with bruised knees. Cobb was walking gingerly at practice this week and was not on the field with his teammates. "It's an injury. But it won't be anything that will hinder me and (make) me miss a lot of time. We're taking it day by day right now and trying to get better each day."
