According to Boxrec.com, Sultan Ibragimov and Wladimir Klitschko will fight in a unification bout on Feb 23 in New York. On the one hand, its nice to see these Slavic warriors destroy overhyped black boxers one after another, on the other, its great to see an all-white unification fight, as a sign of the new white dominance of the division.

This match sucks, not only because it will be a lopsided victory for WK, but also because at the beginning of the fight there are two white champs...at the end, just one. Very depressing to me.

Here is another way to look at it however. Wlad is by far the best heavyweight on the planet for the last 3-4 years now. Everyone has been ducking him. He will never be looked at like one of the best of all time unless he wins all 4 belts. We need him to hold all the titles like Lenox Lewis did and so many others before him. This will help Wlad to get the respect he deserves. It's not like one loss will ruin the other guys career either. I'm happy to see Wlad get one step closer. Please let this fight happen. Go Klitschko!Edited by: white lightning

White lightning you make some very good points but still I really don't like to see two White Brothers fight.

Let's see, what happened the last time Vlad faced a left hander with fast hands and a big punch? I think he'll be ready this time though, with faster hands and a bigger punch.

Mixed feelings about the demographics, though.

Concerning mixed feelings about two white boxers fighting each other, this is only a natural development of the slavic takeover of the heavyweight division. We can't have it both ways. If many white fighters begin to rise up in the ranks, like Chagaev, Povetkin etc. obviously there will start to be more and more white vs. white title fights.
For instance, Povetkin will be fighting either Brock or Chambers in the IBF eliminator tournament probably early next year. Should we be hoping that Povetkin loses to a black fighter to avoid a Klitschko Povetkin title fight sometime in the summer of 08?
Or should we be upset that Valuev and Liakachev will fight in the eliminator in the WBA ( or whatever Chagaevs belt is in) for the right to fight Chagaev? Should we be upset that its not Valuev vs. Ruiz, or maybe Holyfield vs. Ruiz, or Mccline vs. McCall. A byproduct of the Slavic dominance in heavyweight boxing should be more and more whites only eliminator and title fights. If thats not the case, it would be a bad sign. Let the black fighters go down in the fights leading up to the eliminator fights is what I say.
Depending on which ranking you look at, white fighters are a clear majority in the top ten, and this too will have an impact on who is getting in to the title fights.

All good points, Ref. Just sort of ironic. The law of unintended consequences, I suppose.

One champ with two belts. It makes it less likely that a black will ever get their hands on a HW belt it WK has two or more.

I predict damage on both sides. This should make no one wince. A warrior's sweat, blood, and pain are his sacrifice to the God of Battles. It is good that we have won in fight with the Other for our self-respect, to "clean the stain", for survival. But for Glory, we fight each other.

This could be a brutal, rollicking, for the ages fight.

It will do no harm to White folk if people in the future speak of Klitscko/Ibragimov in the same reverential tones reserved for Ali/Frazier Ali/Foreman at this time.Edited by: White_Savage

Size advantage is too much. Wlad is not a steroid addled oaf like Briggs, who was wheezing after the first round. Wlad KO 8 based on the close fight Iggy had with Ray Austin (who Wlad put to sleep in 2 rounds).

Much as I like him, I don't think the Sultan is in the same league as Wlad.

As usual, you're right. Ibragimov, in all honesty, has beaten guys that weren't exactly in prime condition.

As much as I adore Sultan (and all of OUR other HW champs), I just haven't been too impressed by the guys he's beaten. Maybe it's because the only guys left are American black has-been fighters? Briggs was nearly dead on his feet gasping for breath when they fought. I guess that's Sultan's biggest strength, endurance, as opposed to offensive firepower.

Lance Whittaker was a mountain of a man, and Ibragimov made him look foolish....Klitschko will be the first guy who can actually hit back. I just hope he makes it quick and doesn't give him too bad a beating.

Never count Sultan out. He was predicted to lose in every major fight he's been in. I can't see him winning but we're the only ones that saw it coming in a lot of his other fights.

Ibragimov is very susceptible to right hands. Briggs and Holyfield had terrible performances against him, but even then, they landed some excellent right crosses. And Wlad has arguably the best right cross in boxing- although Pavlik might disagree.

Yes, once upon a time, Wlad had a problem with another southpaw, but I just can't see Ibragimov wiping out Wlad like that.

My main concern is that this fight could be very conservative. Ibragimov has to be careful of Klitschko's power, and Klitschko has to be wary of Sultan's speed. I hope it's not too boring. We need these big fights to be fun, both for our own entertainment and for increasing the popularity of our fighters. Edited by: JD074

Although we have white titleholders at heavyweight, we haven't yet had white a unified champion. The last unified heavyweight champion was Lennox Lewis. I don't care who wins, but it's good to see this fight is really happening. Tony Thompson has the same promoter (Goosen) as Ibragimov, so I haven't read anywhere that Thompson's complaining about having to wait for his mandatory shot.

Although he's one of my top five favorite fighters, I can't imagine Ibragimov as having any chance of defeating Wladimir. In fact, I think Wlad will win by mid-round KO or TKO.

This is what can happen if Don King is not involved! This heavyweight unification fight is good for the sport of boxing. If it's at Madison Square Gardens I may even travel to New York to see it in person.

Vlad almost has to fight another Champion. The 1 and 2 slots in the IBF are vacant right now. Carl Brock who he has already knocked out is in the 3rd slot. He has to fight a top three IBF rated fighter to maintain his Champion ship or another Champion. Even if the IBF would let him fight a top 5 fighter it would be another white fighter , either Valuev or Virchis. The tale of tape looks light a tough bout for Sultan. he 4.5 inches shorter 25 pounds lighter and gives up 6 inches in reach and Vlad has been Knocking out a better class of fighter thatn Sultan has been beating by decision. But then who knows, Sultan may surprise me.

I would say closer to six inches shorter. He was clearly shorter than Holyfield, who's not a tall guy himself. And there's no way he was only two inches shorter than Briggs.

Yeah, he would have his work cut out for him against Wlad. But after the Austin fight he got a new trainer, and there's no question that he's taught Sultan to be more conservative, to not take risks. So he could make a fight out of it- if not an aesthetically pleasing fight.
