Heggarty was DQ'd in his semi-final in which he eased up significantly down the home stretch and still ran 20.72, which would have been another Championship Record.
But in his absence, another Brit, Bronson Hearn-Smith, won the final easily in a Championship Record of 20.70!

Bronson is just 16 years old. I mentioned him last year. He has an unusual running style - very long strides, with high knees. When you watch him, he doesn't seem to be running fast, but his legs eat up a lot of ground.
Too bad about Heggarty, but congratulations to Hearn-Smith for stepping up when it counts!

Is it just me or does Bronson Heard remind you guys a little of Michael Johnson? He looked like he had a back brace on when he was running as he was so straight up but he flew around the track. Smith has some serious talent. Excited to see him continue to progress. He may even get a little taller and have an even longer stride. Fun to watch this kid. Thanks for the video. It's a shame about Heggarty!

One girl of note from the 100m heats today at the Euro U18 Championships, is Carolina-Andreea Punga of Romania.
She had the 4th fastest qualifying time, 11.51 (0.6w). It may not seem like an exceptional time, but she is only 15 years old!!
She has a PB of 11.36 from 2 weeks ago. One to keep an eye on for sure.
15 year old Carolina didn't medal in the 100m, but she did take silver in the 200m, finishing in 23.58 to Spain's Mariona Armero, 23.57.
Fantastic performance for the youngster.

Another noteworthy performance from the European U18 Championships came from British high jumper, Samuel James.
He won the competition with a jump of 2.25m.
That is a Championship Record and makes him the U18 World Leader. It is also the highest jump Euro U18 jump in 12 years, and puts him 13th on the all-time U18 list.
