I was just about to post this. He is doing well recently. Fitting in nicely at the shooting guard/small forward position.
He is a good player to go along with Utah's front court players.

The night after Butler's pratfall in the NCAA championship game, Gordon Hayward showed a celebrity-dotted crowd and a national TV audience what might have been had he stuck around for his junior season.

The baby-faced rookie scored a career-high 22 points Tuesday and added six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one blocked shot as the floundering Utah Jazz stunned the suddenly slumping Lakers 86-85.

He delivered the winning free throw with six seconds left after the Jazz ran a play for him on their final possession, then he defended Kobe Bryant when the Lakers star lost control of the ball and fumbled it away. It was Los Angeles' 19th turnover.

He turned 21 two weeks ago but still barely looks 12 â€" his ruddy cheeks, narrow eyes and Justin Bieber haircut now augmented by a few sprouts of hair on his chin.

But he has an explosive first step, has shot 45 percent on 3-pointers, and has improved his defense.

As for his athleticism?

He put the Jazz ahead 77-76 with 3:25 left when he drove down the lane, jumped off the wrong foot, lost control of the ball in his right hand only to be able to dunk it with his left.

The Jazz never trailed again.

In the third quarter, Bryant caught Hayward with an elbow. In the fourth, Hayward returned the favor. Though he grew up idolizing Bryant, Hayward said he was not in awe.

As Hayward spoke, surrounded by a dozen reporters and several camera crews, his mood dampened only once â€" when the subject of his alma mater was brought up.

He watched the game Monday night by himself in his hotel room. As each Butler shot clanked off the rim, the anxiety and helplessness grew greater.

"Man, it was tough watching my guys last night," Hayward said. "I was rooting for them so hard. I know it was tough to go all the way back. They had such a great run. I don't think they played poorly â€" they just missed shots."

It was also clear that, for one night at least, they missed something else â€" Hayward.

Update:Hayward will once again be in the starting lineup Thursday against the Blazers, the Salt Lake Tribune's Brian T. Smith reports.


Recommendation:Hayward should be in line for solid minutes
against the Blazers, likely around 30-35 minutes. With only two games
on the NBA slate on Thursday, Hayward could be a great start for fantasy
owners looking to grab some stats on a slow basketball day. In seven
games this season where Hayward has played 30 or more minutes, he's
averaged 14.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Hopefully
Hayward is now the permanent starter so next season he can shine all
year long. Gordon has already proven he has the skill to be a great NBA
player, now all he needs is the opportunity/minutes and no doubt he'll shine!

Yes, this is as absurd as the Tebow situation in the NFL. The Kings will clearly let Jimmer walk in the off-season and are showing no signs of playing him as he is buried as the 3rd string at both PG and SG. Why wouldn't the Kings take a 2nd round pick or some cash in a trade? At the same time, don't tell me Utah wouldn't part with a 2nd rounder to acquire a sure fire scorer. Plus the money they'd make in merchandise and ticket sales would easily make the trade profitable even if wins didn't increase. After the season, Utah could let Jimmer walk too. No harm, no foul.

It is clear as day that there is more to professional sports than winning and losing and sound money making business decisions.

I was on a business trip last year and met a really cool Mormon man. I told him that BYU was my favorite Division I program, even though I wasn’t Mormon. We talked about all the great BYU players, past and present, who played in (and were screwed by) the NFL.

He said that a good majority of Mormons see Jimmer as a “hero.” He mentioned that when his two sons play the popular basketball game “21,” they refer to it as “Jimmer Ball.” Utah Jazz, Inc. would clearly make a fortune in additional revenue, but like the Tebow-to-Jaguars scenario, there is something nefarious at work…

It's more absurd. He clearly fulfills the criteria for his position. One could argue that Tebow doesn't have the best arm, whether he wins or not, but one can't argue that Jimmer can't shoot the lights out.

The Jazz just released one of their guards. I think his name was Tinsley and he has been awful. The Rumor Mill has it that they want Jimmer. I sure hope it's not another false rumor. No other team would love him the way Utah would. He could run for govenor of Utah if he wanted. Come on Jazz. Go get Jimmer Fredette and watch him and Gordon Hayward make some magic together! Gordon Hayward was such a rare case: a White American that was drafted high at a very young age, plus he only had a few years of experience playing basketball before he arrived at Butler. He was/is super athletic but a little raw like several black youfs that are drafted in the NBA. Most of the time when a White American is an early first round draft pick, he's either a big man or a Senior. Luckily, he didn't have to be perfect right away like most White American athletes in all sports.

Wish granted, at least for 1 game anyway. Hayward goes for 27 points 10 assists and 5 rebounds and Utah gets their first win of the season. Hope Hayward continues. It would be nice to see 2 white players in the top 10 in scoring before seasons end!

Gordon Hayward is now the leading white scorer in the NBA at 19.7 pts./game. He is the 15th leading scorer in the NBA. Not really big news, but with Love's roll diminishing in Cleveland, 8 points/5 rebs. last night, and Nowitzki's game declining a bit due to age and injuries, Hayward is leading the way right now despite averaging only 14.6 shots/game.

We're also missing David Lee's contribution due to injury and Spencer Hawe's roll diminishing since being traded!

Hayward's career high at 19.7 is above last seasons 16 pts./game. Hopefully he'll continue to improve and take more shots getting him into the 20 something range.

Gordon Hayward had 39 points and 5 assists in another Jazz win tonight. They are a playoff team and have some other guys to watch as well. Hayward is having his best season of his career at 22 points per game. He is the face of the team. The guy can do a little bit of everything. For some reason he reminds me alot of Keith Van Horn who played college ball at Utah many years ago. Van Horn played for the Nets in the nba.

On another note Jerry West wants the NBA logo which is based on him, to go to some other player like Michael Jordan. Abdicating the throne and another nail in the coffin that suggests white people don't exist in the world of sports. Seen through the prism of modern day sports West is seen as a great player from way back but he was white so there is this well reluctance to go whole hog with the guy because he was not black therefore how athletic could he have been? He was a great shooter they say which he was among other things. Since the media has openly had orgasms describing Michael Westbrook and frothing at the mouth about his athleticism in the real book of the just and truth Jerry West was every bit (I say better) the athlete that Westbrook is and West was a superior basketball player too. West was an incredible athlete with tremendous speed, quickness, agility and he could sky. And a perfect basketball player in terms of skills and shooting. But by all means abdicate. Lets make the history of white athletes some sort of fairy tale like Atlantis. Something in people's minds that may have existed but is pretty much washed away from our collective memories.
