That's a pretty funny photo. I wonder how fast Eugen Ray could have run if he hadn't reached down to scratch his balls during the race?

I checked for an update on Simon Schutz. The bony 16-yr-old has dropped his 100 meters to 10.60, following that up in the same meet with a 10.68 in the finals, despite cramping. That night (if I read the tortured translation correctly) he then went 21.58 (not a PR) in the 200.

These are great times for an immature kid. 4 yrs from now, he'll be in the Olympics.

Some Fast times for German sprinters in Florida today:
Martin Keller 9.99, wind was +3.7. Julian Reus ran a 10.00, also windy.
Reus also ran 20.44 with wind of 2.4, in the 200m.

Good times, but apparently a very, very fast track, plus wind.
We'll have to wait and see what types of times they run in normal conditions.

Here is an update on the german wonderkid Simon Schutz.

14.05.2013 | Young Athletics | pm / sb

Simon contactor is in the starting blocks
Ready for new challenges: The Wiesbaden junior sprinter Simon contactor is fit after injury for the summer season. The focus is the 100 and 200 meters are the shorter distance for the German Under-18 champion this year.

German Youth Indoor Champion at 15 years, starting at the U20 World Championships, two titles in the U18 DM: Behind Sprinter Simon Schütz (Wiesbaden LV) is a fantastic 2012. But in winter it was closed by one of Germany's biggest talents on the short routes. A hamstring on 12 January is the Hessian Youth Championships in Stadtallendorf mean the end for the indoor season.

Meanwhile, the student has overcome the Verletzungsmalheur and prepares focused on the summer season ahead. First trained contactor, on the 3rd May, 17 years old, with the fastest men in the German spring training camp in Tenerife (Spain). "It was a great experience. Of Germany's best sprinters I can still learn a lot, "contactor looks back on the Canary Islands trip.

Improve running technique

Especially in terms of running technique the teen looked very closely. For the smoothest Sprinters of the high-scoring Hesse is not long. Finally contactor was only the "detour" football to athletics. To work harder at this weakness, the Wiesbaden has decided together with his coach Georg Schmidt to occur mainly in the 100 meters this summer - even if contactor previously celebrated his greatest successes on the "long" 200 meters.

"This year I want to improve my speed. I think that a time of 10.50 seconds for me is possible, "contactor looks to the coming months. Previously available for him since the German Youth Championships 2012 in Moenchengladbach 10.60 seconds to book.

Entry in Weinheim

A first attack on the "house record" contactor 25 May take. Then he starts with the Palatinate Gala in Weinheim in the season. The chances are not bad. Verena Sailer (11.05 sec) and Julian Reus (10.09 sec) and the German men's sprint relay (38.02 sec) - - Finally, the currently fastest German sprinter ran their best times of the known fast track Weinheimer.

But at its best the student wants to be only about seven weeks later. Then it's at the U18 World Cup in Donetsk (Ukraine, July 10 to 14) for the medals. "The World Cup is of course my very clear goal for this summer. I hope there to get far, "said contactor. The championship standard should not represent a major hurdle for him. 10.80 seconds are required for a start. Failing that the lanky sprinter already in Weinheim, it could be the start of a new successful season.

Thanks for the update. I feel like (at this stage) Simon has proven himself a bit more consistently than Ryan Gorman or the Danish kid, although their 100m times for the same age are even faster. Ultimately, I think Simon is a 200-400m runner, but I'm not second guessing his coach's decision to work on his speed at the shorter distance this year. He can always develop the endurance for the longer distances as he matures.

Reus and Keller ran 10.32 and 10.33 with no wind, today in a big meet in Germany.
I don't know why Germany is so weak in the men's sprints. Even little countries like Latvia, Croatia and Estonia have sub 10.20 sprinters.

Well I agree that the german sprinters should be faster on a year to year basis, I belive that your wrong about my favorite sprinter from there. Julian Reus ran a 10.09 wind legal last year. He already had a 10.00 wind aided time in the U.S. from a few weeks ago. Today he won both races in Germany in wind legal times of 10.20 and 20.56! Remember that it is only June 2nd and he is far from his peak condition. He won both races easily today despite little or no competition. Reus is in a class all be himself and like Lemaitre could use some more of his teammates to help push him. I see him going at least sub 10.05 this summer and he very well could dip under the magical 10 second mark. Julian Reus is 25 years of age so he just starting his prime years as a sprinter. This kid is the real deal.

LUcas Jakubzcyck 10,26 s. (-1,3 m/s)
Martin Keller 10,37 s.

Lucas had a very good start .... normally his start is not very good

10,26 s. with 1,3 Headwind is very very good.

The wind was -1,3 m/s.
I believe it too: He will not run sub 10.

But Lucas Jakubczyk has the chance. If he get's a little bit more muscles, than it's possible.

Lucas have better top speed from all German sprinters,he just need to fix his 50 m of race but honestly i dont see him sub 10,maybe i'm too pesimist but for a sub 10 you have to bee preety good and i dont see germans running so fast, lucas can be a 10.1 guy and once or twice in life a 10.0x but i hope wrong and he run sub 10.Our hope in 100 is Christophe and Gemili rest of them are maximum 10.0x in good days. But lucas is the best german sprinter and a 10.26 against 1.3 headwind is really good, that is a 10.20-10.19 on 0 wind and with a 1m tailwind that is a 10.15 so he's decent maybe can be a semi-finalist this year in Moscow

I think part of Julian Reus and his average times are they are racing him way too much. Look what happened to Justin Gatlin today. Part of that has to be fatigue from the vast number of races. Well if Gatlin is tired, Reus has to be in a coma from exhaustion. Just this weekend he raced in the 100, 200 and 4 x 100 Relay Squad again! He has been doubling or tripling up his races for a month now. Some of the meets he has had to run rounds as well. The kid is exhaused so his times are going to suffer. He is faster than his times show. His coach has to be blamed for not knowing when to say no to the meet directors. I hope they let him fully rest before his next races and especially before the German National Championships!

Even though Reus has only had a couple of good races so far this summer, he was part of the German 4 X 100 Relay Squad qualifying yesterday for the World Champs in Moscow. They ran a time of 38.41 seconds which is very good. I hope they can continue to build on this race in the next month or two. Here is a link to the video.

The reason I don't get as excited about Lucas Jakubczyk is that he is 29 years of age. He didn't swith to sprinting until last year. Germany really missed out on this guy as he is very talented. I just think that even if he does very well, the 30's are not usually kind to sprinters unless they take some really good special vitamins. I will root for Lucas regardless and hope he can continue to improve.

I think Patrick Domogala has alot of talent as proved by his double win yesterday and he is only 20/21 years of age. I have more hope for him moving forward. The kid could use a better coach though. Maybe I just need to be more patient.

Tell that to Linford Christie (Stuttgart, Germany 9.87 PB @ 33/'92 Barcelona Gold @ 32) or Kim Collins.

Look after yourself, the 30's are your prime.

Linford Christie was juiced to the gills and I'm pretty sure that Kim Collins has been for the last couple of years. He has always been a good sprinter but somehow in his mid 30's took it to another level. Very suspicious if you ask me. Guys just don't get that much faster in their 30's on average without some help.

Look at a guy like Simone Collio. He ran a 10.06 wind legal a few years back and now he can't crack 10.30 most of the time. Father time is very cruel. Collio is natural and there for getting slower like most athletes in any sport do in their 30's.

Yes, but aren't sprinters in their 20's juiced to the gills too? Or does everyone think Blake and Bolt and the rest of the Jamaicans are somehow clean?

I watched a race yesterday(forgot where) but Bolt came in second to Gatlin (in his 30's). The one white sprinter (from Italy), ran like a 10.2, was 32 or 34. And of course, Kim Collins was an astounding 38.

I think training differently, knowledge of nutrition, anti-aging legal sups like Curcumin and Resvertrol, and yes, of course, PED's have contributed to a thirties sprinting revival. But to say that PED's are the main factor is disingenuous when one examines all the elite sprinters in their 20's who have been caught as well.

Off course the young guys are on peds too. I was just stating that in general whether it be football, basketball, baseball, track or any other sport, father time will not be cheated. If you do hold on for a little longer then so be it but it is probably going to be at the expense of these guys health later on. Even the young guys that take it.

I would rather watch guys that are clean run 10.20's than to watch Bolt run a video game time when I know it's not real.

So would I, but we both know that's not going to happen any time soon. It's just part of the game, like it is in the World's Strongest Man competition. Thing is, I just don't see as many yolked-looking white sprinters as I do black ones. White countries, though, actually enforce random year-round drug testing for track, but I can't say the same thing about Jamaica.

Lemaitre might be the only clean sprinter running sub-10 times right now.

We finally saw some good times from these two german sprinters. In my opinion, Reus can still run sub 10.10 again and he will prove it soon. The kid just ran a 10.14 and 20.36 to become a double german national champion! He is just starting his final preparations for the worlds. He is almost at peak condition and with some fine tuning he can get his times down a little lower. I was happy to see Martin Keller run in the sub 10.20 range too and especially after rounds. Verena Sailer is starting to round into form too. Great time of 11.09 with no help from the wind. The best thing about all of these times is that the german sprinters had to earn them with out the aid of a following wind. That makes it more impressive.
