Groves won by UD:

(from fightnews.com)

In the first fight on the card, rising super middleweight hope George Groves moved up to 7-0 with 5 KOs after the harder-than-it-seems eight-round decision over ultra durable Belarussian Konstantin Makhankov (15-19, 5 KOs). Groves used all his vast technical arsenal to put Makhankov out, including right and left hooks, right uppercuts and a hard jab, but the journeyman, who had been stopped only by 168lb banger Victor Oganov during his pro career, was just too tough and rugged to be put away. All three judges saw it in favor of Hayemaker prodigy with the same score of 80-72. Fightnews had it 80-73 for George Groves.

Groves fought Friday night.

From Fightnews

British super middleweight prospect George Groves (8-0, 6 KOs) became the first ont to stop rugged Bulgaria-based Armenian Grigor Saruhonian (2-3). Adam Booth-trained 21-year old decked his foe twice in the second and finished him off in the third with a picture-perfect liver shot.

Groves will face tough African Charles Adamu this Saturday on the Haye-Ruiz undercard. The match will be for Adamu's Commonwealth title and will be Groves' first 12 round fight.

"St George" stopped Adamu in the sixth round to claim the Commonwealth title. It was the first time in Adamu's career he had ever been stopped and that includes a grueling 12 round fight with Froch a few years back. George improves to 9-0(7)

The fight with James DeGale on Saturday will either make or break the career of George Groves. Most people are predicting a DeGale win.

Groves has a selfish creep who doesn't do much for him as a promoter, namely David Haye.

DeGale/Groves is an interesting fight. Ive seen a few of DeGale's fights (VS Dilks, Horton), and Ive seen one of Groves' fights (VS Contreras).

First let me say that most boxing experts, and the "smart money" seems to be on James DeGale. Most are expecting him to win. On betting sites he's going at about -350 odds.

From looking at their records, however, I'd say that Groves has arguably beaten better level of opposition. Groves has fought some great guys and beaten them. He's also went the distance with some tough journeymen level fighters.

Looking at James DeGale's record, he seems to be missing a fight which gives him some rounds (aside from KO 9 Paul Smith).

I am not completely sold on James DeGale is my point.

Intriguing fight, and very aggressive matchmaking. In my opinion I'd say its almost 50-50, maybe a slight advantage to DeGale.

Either way, I dont think a loss in this fight would ruin George Groves. He's only 23 years old, and definitely has some talent to be demonstrated in the future. I don't think a loss will break his career, and regardless of the result tomorrow, I think Groves is a guy to keep an eye on going forward.

I certainly consider George Groves to be a live opponent in this fight.

Man, the UK sure has a good lively boxing scene with some interesting rivalries. I youtubed both fighters and it looks like an even matchup to me. While they both can throw, Degale seems to wing wider punches than Groves does, which might just be the difference.

This should be a good cracking chin checker. He who passes wins.
