i really wanted to create a thread about this because when i mentionned that a lot of players had realtives who are also professional players, everybody answered like it was normal
so here is a list of some non-white french players or non-white players that played in france who have relatives who are also professional players:

most of these players play currently as i didn't watch soccer until the 2000's (too young)
99,9% of these players are blacks, i put only non-white examples in this list because as i said, this is a big problem with black players (some white examples are hazard and his 2 brothers, all the sons of a football player)

This looks like a case of signing him only because he is Eden's brother. He only has played 11 games in the 2nd division in France, which I assume isn't as good as the Championship in England. He's 19. It's not like he is 16 or 17.

Bisser Mikhaylov (grandfather), Borislav Mihaylov (father), Nikolay Mihaylov (son) – they are all goalkeepers and have been capped for the Bulgarian national team (in fact Borislav is the all-time leader in appearances). Also, professional footballer Zhivko Milanov is the son-in-law of Borislav Mihaylov and has been capped for Bulgaria.

Veselin Minev and Yordan Minev – twin brothers, also Bulgarian internationals, played against each other in the “Eternal Derby†(a major club rivalry between Levski Sofia and CSKA Sofia)

Robert Kovac and Niko Kovac – brothers, both used to be part of the Croatian national side and were key members of the team.

Josip Simic – brother of Dario Simic (Dario has earned 100 caps for Croatia).

One other case that Frederic may be familiar with – Samir Bengelloun and Younes Bengelloun are French-born players who have Algerian roots and both used to be part of the Loko Plovdiv team. It is hardly surprising that the sons, nephews, et cetera of former players are often professional players themselves. "Names" open doors for trials and influence signings and the like.

This isn't unique to football. Here in Australia, the sons of several rugby league stars of the 1970s and 1980s have featured in the NRL. Below are a few examples:

Craig Young - son Dean plays for the St.George-Illawarra Dragons

"Slippery" Steve Morris (my favourite player as a kid...) - twin sons Josh and Brett respectively play for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and the Dragons

I agree, goalkeepers are a unique breed and it’s extremely risky/potentially costly for a team to violate the principles of meritocracy when it comes to picking goalies, so it’s less likely that the “well-connected players†in a club are the custodians. Kasper Schmeichel, the son of Peter Schmeichel, used to be very highly rated (deservedly so, imo), but recently he hasn’t really been in the spotlight/attracted attention from big clubs…let’s hope that he will rediscover his form.

Yes, they probably have Congolese or Northern African nomad (there are some black tribes in North Africa) roots. Marriages between Central Africans (like Congolese) and Algerians are not that uncommon in certain places.

As for Rais M’Bohli, his mother is Algerian (she influenced him to adopt the Muslim faith) and his father is Congolese. He used to play in the Japanese League, but has now risen to prominence (I even saw his name in the Wikipedia article on famous Afro-Arabs) and was on trial with Manchester United a few months ago. It’s interesting that so many players who have minority backgrounds are from Paris.

anyway a friend told me that chelsea was doing good this summer regarding the transferts and he was quite right: so far all the players that they bought are whites (oscar, hazard, marko marin, hazard's brother, and this young brady)
