I've heard a lot of noise today about comments Brent Musberger made concerning Alabama QB AJ McCarron's girlfriend Katherine Webb during the big game on Monday. I happened to be watching when he made his remarks and thought nothing of it other then, well it's nice the Nat'l Championship winning QB is dating Miss Alabama.
Apparently Musberger commited the unforgivable sin of publicly supporting heterosexuality because ESPN felt compelled to issue an apology for his remarks. I heard his comments again and there was nothing inappropriate, he didn't refer to her sexually in anyway only calling her beautiful, there were some people upset he inferred that kids should think about being QB's if they want to get a pretty girl like Katherine Webb. He also went on a bit too long I thought in a second hearing of the remarks but who could blame him, he had a colossal blow out on his hands and needed to kill time.
Such a ruckous was caused that Katherine Webb was put on Good Morning America to discuss this controversy and she said that she felt Musberger had done nothing wrong.
Far be it from me to support a top caste clown like Musberger, although in fairness to him he is over the top with praise for anyone black or White, but what is the reasoning behind an ESPN apology.
Who was insulted and who is being apologized to? I am going to assume that this was only ESPN trying to milk a non incident for some additional publicity and having the twin internet attractions of a winning QB and a beauty queen giving the story some legs.
I guess it's okay for the network to make a big deal about mixed race couples and rub everyone's face in it but a good looking White guy and gal?? That has to be stopped lest some kids get the idea that White people hooking up is a good thing.
