ESPN’S Dana Jacobson

I don't know how many of you caught this story, but apparently ESPN talking head Dana Jacobson, co-host of "First Take" (formerly "Cold Pizza") made some pretty despicable comments in public last weekend.

During a roast for fellow ESPN jock-sniffers Mike Golic and Mike "Greenie" Greenberg, Jacobson uttered some truly profane and anti-Christian remarks. As she "roasted" Notre Dame-alum Golic, Jacobson shouted out, "F... Notre Dame!" followed by "F... Touchdown Jesus!" and then, taking it to its logical conclusion, simply "F... Jesus!"

I think it's a safe prediction that Jacobson will not be fired. She probably will only be given a slap on the wrist, if anything at all. But just imagine if she'd said, "F... Martin Luther King!" or even worse, "F... the Jews!" Her career would be over, and there would be non- stop "discussion" about it on every sports talk show. I actually heard a local jock-sniffing idiot from a radio show say this morning that "it was no big deal," and certainly not as serious as the comments about lynching Tiger Woods that a golf channel commentator made recently. That's what our society has come to, folks; it clearly is now a bigger crime to make nasty comments about a black golfer than it is to issue the vilest condemnation possible against Jesus Christ. Ah, the joys of Don King's America....

Just in the past few months, there have been at least three separate instances where a female celebrity (well, at least what passes for "celebrity" in our cockeyed culture) has issued really horrible, profane remarks about Jesus in public. First, that unbelievably obnoxious "comedian" Sarah Silverman stated gleefully that "Yeah, we killed Jesus. So what? I wish he'd come back- I'd f...ing kill him again!" No cancellation of her almost unknown little show on the Comedy Channel. No real criticism at all from anyone with a public forum. Then, "comedian" Kathy Griffin held up her award at some MTV- type bogus ceremony and said, "I'm not thanking Jesus for this. Suck it, Jesus! This award is my God, now!" Again, no real criticism and her career as a self-acclaimed "D-List" celebrity continues unabated. Now this one, perhaps the most odious of all.

The Catholic League will protest this, and receive very little media coverage for their efforts. What scant attention the issue receives will feature clearly bemused expressions on the faces of the jock-sniffing talking heads, whose every utterance will be to further the party mantra of "yes, the remarks were unfortunate, but they were clearly not meant to be taken seriously." No one outside the Catholic League, or perhaps a token Evangelist preacher, will be allowed to speak out strongly about Jacobson's remarks on any television or radio station.

I think a good question to ask here would be; why do so many people who don't believe in Jesus Christ despise him so much? If he's just a fairy tale figure, or even just a mortal Jewish Rabbi, then why waste so much time defaming his name, his image and his words?

An article in The Press of Atlantic City the next day said that Jacobson "made an absolute fool of herself, swilling vodka from a Belvedere bottle, mumbling along and cursing like a sailor as Mike & Mike rested their heads in their hands in embarrassment." She was booed off the stage.


In a statement released through ESPN, Jacobson called her comments about Notre Dame "foolish and insensitive."


"My actions at the roast were inappropriate and in no way represent who I really am," she said. "I have personally apologized to many of the people involved. I won't make excuses for my behavior but do hope that I can be forgiven for such a poor lack of judgment."


ESPN released a statement calling her actions and comments inappropriate. Soltys said the network doesn't comment on personnel matters beyond saying she was disciplined.


Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown said, "While we in no way condone Ms. Jacobson's comments, we're aware of the circumstances in which they occurred, and, in the interest of forgiveness, trust that she and ESPN have addressed the matter in an appropriate way."


Jacobson's remarks came just two days after another TV anchor was suspended for offensive language. Golf Channel suspended Kelly Tilghman for two weeks for saying on air that young players who wanted to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley."

Gee, what's missing? Not a word about her saying "F-Jesus." Totally left out. Instead the reader is supposed to think that Jacobsen merely engaged in "expletive laden speech" that's "OK for comedians Eddie Griffin and Jeffrey Ross but might not be appropriate for ESPN announcers." What was far and away the most offensive thing Jacobsen said is completely left out, yet in the last paragraph Kelly Tilghman's remark about Tiger Woods is dragged out and repeated.


If someone can't see the double standards, hypocrisy and censorship at work here, then they deserve to be a slave. Absolutely unbelievable, even for the government-media complex.

Who would have thought that a Cohen could be impartial writing on this subject? It absolutely baffles me to no end that some people aren't willing to make the obvious connection between the terrible bias in our media and a certain minority who is probably as misrepresented therein as Blacks are in the NBA. Which is more responsible for the tearing down of the White European-Christain value structure (and not specifically the NBA, but the reverence of the African Male)? I'd say that's up for debate, but to see one and deny the other makes no sense to me.

They won't make the connection for quite a while as the tribe runs a well oiled machine when it comes to keeping people in the dark about their actions in the media and government.

Protest over Jacobson planned at ESPN today

The Dana Jacobson controversy at ESPN is not going away quietly. According to the Christian Newswire, the Christian Defense Coalition is planning a noon prayer vigil outside ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Conn. The group wants Jacobson fired. Reportedly, the ESPN TV personality is suspended. She has issued an apology but some think it is insufficient.

The Jacobson furor started as a result of roast at an Atlantic City casino for Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg, the ESPN radio-TV talk duo. Golic is a Notre Dame grad. Much the evening was filled with off-color remarks, according to the Atlantic City Press, which, as far as we can tell, represented the only mainstream media covering and reporting the event.

In Jacobson's case, she allegedly took swigs from a bottle of vodka, and used curse words in association with Notre Dame, the image of Jesus at Notre Dame known commonly as "Touchdown Jesus," and Jesus himself.

While some of what is commonly known about the incident is second-hand information, ESPN has not refuted what is widely considered to be the specific offensive behavior.

Today's Atlantic City Press included another article about the incident. In this article, the journalist who was on the scene, At The Shore Editor Scott Cronick, talks further about what he observed.

The following comes from the Atlantic City Press article written by Regina Schaeffer.

Cronick said he did not hear the Jesus reference, "and neither did some other people I spoke to who were at the roast.

"She was out of control," Cronick said. "When she started slugging vodka straight from the bottle, the whole crowd just groaned. Most people in the audience, including me, felt bad for (Notre Dame head coach) Charlie Weis, because he was sitting right next to the podium and she was just going off on him and Notre Dame. They got her off the stage once, but she somehow found her way back to the stage and just dug her hole deeper."

A Catholic advocacy group charges the sports TV network ESPN has failed to respond properly to a graphic rant by anchorwoman Dana Jacobson in which she "attacked Jesus Christ."

Jacobson, reportedly intoxicated, was speaking at a celebrity roast in Atlantic City, N.J., when she unleashed a profane tirade, saying, "F--- Notre Dame," "F--- Touchdown Jesus" and finally "F--- Jesus."

"Touchdown Jesus" is the popular moniker for a mural on Notre Dame's library featuring Jesus raising his arms.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue said he pressed ESPN on the issue and received an e-mail with an unsatisfactory statement by Jacobson.

The statement said, in part, "My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words."

Donohue contended the response "fails on several counts."

"First, there is no evidence that ESPN is taking this matter seriously," he said. "Are we to believe that her hate speech is of no consequence?"

Donohue argued Jacobson's comments were at a public event where she represented ESPN.

Secondly, he pointed out, racist remarks by the late sports commentator Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder during a luncheon interview in 1988 resulted in his prompt firing by CBS, despite an apology.

Donohue added, "It is also important to note that being drunk didn't help Mel Gibson's case when he made bigoted remarks about Jews."

Finally, the Catholic leader said, "By far the most offensive thing she said, 'F--- Jesus,' isn't even addressed!"

"It is obvious, then, that neither Jacobson nor ESPN is dealing with this matter in a professional way," Donohue declared. "To put this issue behind them, ESPN must deal with this issue quickly, publicly and fairly, something it has yet to do. After all, most Christians are yet unaware of this event, but once they learn of it, they are sure to demand accountability."

As WND reported in September, Kathy Griffin, the star of the Bravo show "My Life on the D-List," stirred controversy when she used her appearance on the Emmy Awards program to tell Jesus to "suck it" and to claim full credit for the honor for herself.

Where did you get that? You don't have be Jewish to be named "Jacob", and "Son" is often found in Scandinavian patrinomical systems. Jacobson is common in Christianized Scandinavian countries. Some Jews may have that name, but it's not necessarily the case every time.
