Apparently, Decker is just barely holding off Andre caldwell for the starting position, according to this writer. (read the last sentence of the article.)

Denver Broncos
quarterback Peyton Manning and wide receiver Eric Decker spent some additional time on the field Wednesday after experiencing some lapses in communication during practice, Lindsay Jones of The Denver Post reports.

"I think it was evident, particularly offensively, that we were coming off a 4½-day hiatus," Broncos coach John Fox said. "But that's what happens. We gave them a little break, and I think they enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend. We've just got to get back to business."

Reports about particular players or units struggling during organized team activities always should be taken with a heroic dose of salt. There have been just a handful of practices to date, and players -- particularly quarterbacks and receivers -- are still getting to know one another. An example of what players are working on at this point of the offseason can be found in Joel Dreessen discussing how he's thankful to have these workouts so he can get used to Manning's cadence at the line of scrimmage.
"I'm getting more and more comfortable," Dreessen said Wednesday. "It's all very new to me, but that's what OTAs are for. If we had a lockout this year, then I'd be in a lot of trouble. But that's what this stuff is for, and it's helped me a lot."
That said, it's good to see Manning and Decker trying to develop a rapport. Decker had 20 receptions for 270 yards and four touchdowns in the first month of the 2011 season before seeing his production sharply decline after Tim Tebow replaced Kyle Orton and the offense become run-heavy in mid-October. Being where Manning expects to be will help the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Decker hold off Andre Caldwell for the starting job opposite Demaryius Thomas.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker, who played outfield at the University of Minnesota and was drafted by MLB teams twice, hit a pair of home runs when he attended a Rockies batting practice session at the end of April. Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki did not get as hands-on of an experience as he watched the Broncos practice on Wednesday morning. “Decker spent some days with us in spring training, so I got to know him a little bit and then Peyton (Manning) was in our clubhouse so I got to spend some time with him,” Tulowitzki said. “So, being on the DL and looking for things to do while the team is on the road, this sounded like a good opportunity to come check it out and support the community and organization.” Tulowitzki and Decker do have a few athletic accomplishments in common now – both have homered at Coors Field, and both have caught passes from Manning. “No, not right now – I’m on the DL so I can’t do anything,” Tulowitzki said about whether he could participate in any drills. “Last year, Peyton threw a few passes and I caught for him. Nothing too serious, but that’s all the participation I can really be doing on the football field.” Tulowitzki noticed a big difference between the practices he participates in with the Rockies and the Broncos practice he watched Wednesday morning. “It’s different,” he said. “(Decker) came out and hung around us for spring training, but spring training for us is pretty laid back, kind of do what you want as long as you get your work in. Here it’s more precise and more demanding. The coaches are on them a little bit more – it’s different.” While Tulowitzki has no plans to take his talents to the football field, he said that he was impressed with Decker’s showing when he has worked out and taken batting practice with the Rockies. So which player would fare better switching sports – Decker as a baseball player or Tulowitzki as a football player? “Decker as a baseball player, for sure,” Tulowitzki said. “I couldn’t even think of what position for myself out there on a football field. Decker is a good player, a good athlete.”

Eric Decker is considered the Broncos' top punt returner.

Undrafted rookie Eric Page was waived Wednesday, leaving Decker with the job for now. However, he returned just four punts in his entire college career and six as a pro. Set for a heavy workload as an every-down wideout in Peyton Manning's offense, we'd prefer to see Decker held out of the return game.

For once I agree with Weenieworld. Decker will be a marked man as it is, no need for him to be risking a severe knee injury returning punts. He just barely escaped having that happen in the playoff game against the Steelers in January when James Harrison hit him in the knees.

Jordy Nelson did this (or was he a kick-off returner, all the same) for a couple of years while serving his racial apprenticeship. Even now, he still only plays part-time opposite Greg Jennings, when he should be an every down receiver instead, but that's another discussion.

Woodhead has served in that capacity also, plus other ST duties. I think even Gerhart saw some action there. Mark Mariani should be playing WR, but is a returner instead. The most infamous of course is Jason Sehorn, and the bone-headed decision by Jim Fassel to risk injury to his all-pro CB, who ended up doing just that and was never the same again.

I don't mind more White returners on STs, but don't put the star position players there who can get hurt. There are already so few in the forbidden slots like WR and RB, that we don't need this unneccesary risk.

I compare Decker to Larry Fitzgerald in size and skill level, except Decker is a little faster. I like this article, which is another reason Decker shouldn't be returning kicks.

Eric Decker: The Denver Broncos New Fantasy Beast

It seems as if Peyton Manning has found a new weapon to add to his arsenal of signal calling, audible plays at the line and confusing defenses. This weapon may turn out to be the reincarnation of Marvin Harrison from their early days as Indianapolis Colts and can produce one heck of a tandem in the NFL. Manning and his new target, Eric Decker, have started early in this 2012 training camp and has been drawing many cheers from record number crowds in Dove Valley, even among some Denver Broncos legends such as Karl Mecklenburg, Terrell Davis and Executive VP John Elway.

Decker has been able to elude All-Pro Champ Bailey, double coverage against Tracy Porter and Quinton Carter and anyone else the defense throws at him. With this kind of elusiveness from Decker and pinpoint accuracy that Manning is showing during drills, the field is going to be wide open for WR Demaryius Thomas, TE Jacob Tamme, and eventually the run game to follow.

With that openness of other players, the ball will be able to get back to Decker and allow him to produce fantasy numbers on a level with a healthy Miles Austin, Wes Welker, and Reggie Wayne. Yes, those kind of numbers. The ceiling for Decker is to be one of the best WRs in the game this year in an explosive offense with incredible talent in key positions.

Just remember that Decker assembled 44/612/8 (rec-yds-tds) in 16 games last year without a QB. It is not unreasonable to pencil him in for 1100yds and 12TDs this year with a QB who can zero in on his mark. Decker is a remarkable yards after catch receiver and will flourish with Manning hitting him in stride anywhere on the field. The Broncos did not just bring Manning here to finish his career and add to his win totals. Elway knows that the quality of this offense will be immensely improved with the veteran at the helm.

And if the first few days of training camp is any indication, then quite possibly this offense might be a lot of trouble for opposing defenses and Eric Decker might be the biggest winner of them all.

Excerpt from another article about the dynamic duo (Manning to Decker):

One of his best plays came when Decker found the slightest separation from perennial Pro Bowler Champ Bailey and Manning fit the pass right into the tight window, drawing the biggest ovation from the crowd of 4,443, which broke the two-day-old record for the biggest non-stadium training camp practice in team history.

Manning and Decker hooked up plenty of other times.

"As of right now, we don't like those guys. I'm not on board with their show or whatever that is," deadpanned defensive end Elvis Dumervil. "But those guys are good, give them credit. They're going to make us better, so we've got to compete, and that will be good for us."

Even Peter King thinks Decker will have a fantastic season. My only issue is that if he does well this year the DWF's will make it sound as if it's all Manning's doing and not Decker's talent just like with Collie.

Eric Decker - WR - Broncos

SI.com's Peter King believes Eric Decker is "sure to be among the league leaders in receptions if healthy for 16 games."

After a visit to Broncos camp, King considers Decker "a potential star trolling the middle." Decker is a more athletic version of Colts WR Austin Collie, who was a top-five fantasy receiver in points per game under Peyton Manning in 2010. Although Demaryius Thomas has a higher fantasy ceiling, Decker has shown a more natural rapport with Manning.

Decker had a groin injury yesterday. Now it's reported that he tweaked his hamstring. How do these guys get so many injuries in practice? You never used to hear of this.

Fantasy projections for Decker have been going through the roof. The only thing that can stop him from having a super season is injury. Please get healthy.

Decker is battling with Demaryious Thomas for the role of #1 WR in Denver. He has to get on the field.

One of the many advantages White athletes have over black ones is better balance. Anyone who watches much of the NFL can't help but notice how many times blacks slip and fall, and often in buffoonish pratfalls, for no reason other than they lost their balance. It happens all the time, but it usually goes unmentioned by the announcers.

However, when a White athlete loses his balance it becomes a cause for national ridicule. In the comedy "Kingpin," the main character's last name becomes a national verb for losers -- "he was Munsoned" -- and now the media and DWFs are trying to do a similar number on Eric Decker.

From the LA Times:

Broncos' Eric Decker trips ... and a new verb is born

By Chuck Schilken October 16, 2012, 1:43 p.m.

Something funny happened to Eric Decker on the way to the end zone.

The Denver receiver was wide open when he caught a deep pass from Peyton Manning midway through the second quarter of the Broncos' game against the San Diego Chargers on "Monday Night Football."

With no one near him, Decker took off for what appeared to be a sure touchdown — except he tripped over apparently nothing and landed on the ground. It might be the only time a 55-yard gain has been considered embarrassing, since it should have been an 85-yard touchdown.

Making the situation worse, Manning threw a pick-six to San Diego's Quentin Jammer three plays later, making it a 14-point swing against the Broncos. Luckily for Decker and company, they went on to win the game, 35-24.

Decker had a sense of humor about it, tweeting after the game: "If yall didn't see, they had trip wire out there tonight. I reported it to the NFL so an investigation is pending."

Very soon a new hashtag was trending on Twitter -- #deckering -- with folks tweeting about falling over nothing and encouraging others to post photos and videos of people deckering.

Deckering — it's what all the cool kids in Denver are doing now that Tebowing has gone out of style.

Perhaps someone with the necessary video skills can put together a piece of "deckering" by the countless number of affletes that do it with regularity.

What do you call a receiver who buzz saws his way from the five yard line to the goal line while turning defenders into pulp?

Congrats to Eric for his amazing season, he became the first player in Broncos history to have 20 receiving TDs over his first two seasons.

also, check out this retarded post from rotoworld... since when does he play in the ****in slot????

Eric Decker stayed hot to close out the regular season in Denver's Week 17 win over the Chiefs, catching seven passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns.
Decker finishes the regular season with four straight six-catch performances, and five touchdowns in four games. The fast finish propels him to a year-ending line of 85/1,064/13. All three totals are new career highs by wide margins, and proof positive of what Peyton Manning can do for a receiver. Decker will enter 2013 as one of the most dangerous slot men in the game, and a strong threat for 100 catches. He'll be an elite WR2 in standard leagues, and borderline WR1 in PPR formats. Hopefully it's not an indication of his role in the future. Stokley has been their slot guy with Decker lining up on the outside for most plays. When they go 4 and 5 wide they usually split out a te like Tamme, so very few plays not on the outside, although he tends to run shorter routes than DT . Stokley will be 37 next year, hopefully they don't plan on moving Decker there when he is gone, not sure when Stokley will call it quits, would be kind of cool to see him out there at 40 years old, I am sure he is welcome as long as Manning is playing, but if he isn't back next year, Decker playing more in the slot isn't that far fetched, at the top of this page is about Decker battling Caldwell this year, who had all of one catch, and don't forget Austin Collie was used mostly in the slot w Manning. I can't see Stokley hanging them up after this year, he is Manning's safety valve on 3rd downs. Rice played until 42 but slot wr relies more on yac, quickness and they tend to get hit harder more frequently. All the pains of being a RB but not close to getting the same amount of glory

That racial stereotyping goes back to what I've said about the MSM sports media only being able to think in simple terms, Decker = White receiver = Welker. They don't have another formula so they can't explain it in any other terms. It's the same with Hartline and the "he can't be a No. 1 receiver" mantra. Hartline also plays on the outside--so the MSM can't put him at the "welker" position so they get confused and just blurt out that he shouldn't even be playing anyway.

Decker is more difficult then Hartline as he plays on a high profile Manning led team, is fast, and tall. They know they can't get away with calling for his replacement so they move him to the welker so that their heads don't explode from thinking about it too much. This is similar to what Nelson went through. Fortunately for the anti-Whitests the Packers treat Nelson like a number 3 receiver so they can too.

from rotoworld:

NFL pro personnel executives believe Eric Decker is a "Pro Bowl player in waiting."

Decker enjoyed a Pro Bowl-caliber year in 2012, posting career-highs in catches (85) and yards (1,064), and ranking second in the NFL in touchdown receptions (13). Decker, 26 in March, is entering the final season of his rookie deal. The Broncos would be smart to begin long-term negotiations as soon as possible.

Hopefully this foolishness doesn't interfere with Decker's commitment to actually playing football:
[h=4]Eric Decker gets a reality series[/h]Eric Decker will be the latest professional athlete to have his life invaded by cameras for the sake of our amusement. He and his also-young, also-sexy fiancee Jessie James will make their debut this summer in a series titled Love And Other Contact Sports: Eric And Jessie on E! Entertainment Television. Get your popcorn ready. I mean, if you're into that sort of thing.

Dumb move by Decker IMO. When you are on your way to becoming one of the best WRs in the NFL you shouldn't be sidetracked by this type of foolishness.

Kroy Bierman's career went downhill as soon as he got involved with a "reality" TV tart from Atlanta. Up till that point he was looking like a star in the making, since then he's been average. Hopefully Decker has a better head on his shoulders than Bierman but this worries me. . .

I think she's a country singer, not a porn star. There's also a male Jesse James too I think, a "bad boy" type that was married to a well-known actress. Apparently Jesse James is a trendy name for vacuous celebrities.
