Dusty Stamer

Dusty Stamer is a senior at the University of Nebraska
Cornhuskers.He went there to play running back on the
football team but never got to play.He ran the fastest
time of any Nebraska Football Player ever recorded but
didn't fit their needs!He swithched back to track last
year and won alot of races.He ran on their 4 x 100 team
that beat almost everyone.Dusty also made the 100 meter
ncaa championship finals and finished in the top guys
with a 10.24 in the 100.He has incredible talent and
should have been a superstar running back.Footballs loss
is tracks gain.Stamer is a pre-season all-american this
year as a senior.He won his first race today indoors in
the 60 meters.Let's root him on in his last year there.
If all goes well,he could possibly try to be a professional sprinter.This would be very exciting.

Most people don't realize how impressive 10.24 is, coming from someone
who had basically been away from the sport. Were he another... hue, he'd
be tagged as 'one to watch' by the media.

I first saw Stamer at the Big 12 championships last spring. In the 4x100 Nebraska was beaten and a non-factor until the baton got to Stamer who overhauled the field to win it going away. That effort left him drained for the open 100 but his talent seems prodigious.

Thanks again white lightning for the info on all these white up and coming sprinters.It's fun keeping tabs on these guys as the season progresses.Dusty Stamer has gotten off to a good start on the indoor scene as he ran a personal best of 6.71 at the Adidas Classic in the 60 and he followed that up with another PB at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational with a run of 6.70 this past weekend.The Adidas Classic was run Jan.22 at the Devany centre which is Nebraska's home track,as was the Frank Sevigne race.Nothing like some homecooking to get you going.Checking the rosters of several of the big schools I was pleasently surprised to find more than just one white sprinter.Arizona State has a 400 guy buy the name of Dominic Peterson,who was born in Germany,and is off to a good start as well and UCLA has along with Matt Bruno a couple of other white sprinters name Kevin Ahlstrom and Michael Elbogen.There isn't much info on the latter two so maybe they're both redshirting this year,particularly Ahlstom,since he's a freshman.I don't what will become of these sprinters but at least they are on the roster of a big name school.

Thanks back to you speedster.I used to run track and I
love to follow these guys.Domenik Peterson of ASU is
ranked nationally in the 200/400.He is a very smooth
runner.He makes it look easy.ASU is ranked #11 the last
time I checked.They have a very good team.You also
forgot about Nate Probasco of Nebraska.He's a big boy
who can run and has a few years left.I will root on all
of these guys.I especially want to see Stamer finish
in the top 3 at nationals.I want him to go pro and
continue to develop his immense talent.Stamer is special!

Dusty Stamer is not doing too badly at this weekend's Big 12 Championships.He won his first round race in 6.66 and was the fastest qualfier for the semis.Then he ran a 6.65 to win his semi-final heat and qualify secound fastest for the final.Nate Probasco is in the finals for the 200 and he qualified with the secound fastest time.The finals for these two events will be run later this afternoon.

Ladies and gentlemen your winner of the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships 60 meters is..................DUSTY STAAAAAAAAMER! Dusty was able to pull out the win in a photo finish in a time of 6.68 over Dabryan Blanton and the margin of victory was four thousandths of one secound.Also congratulations go out to Stamer's team-mate Nate Probasco who was victorious in the 200 and he won that race in a PB of 20.99 also beating Dabryan Blanton.I guess Mr.Blanton has learned that those white boys sure can run.Way to go guys.

All I can say is Hell yeah!!I knew Dusty could do it.He
has so much upside left.Stamer has the potential to go
pro after college in my opinion.I hope he does.Nate
Probasco has been a pleasant suprise.He is really an
asset to the 4 x 100 team and is a terror over 200
meters.I would love to see Stamer run a few 200's to
work on his speed endurance.I don't think he would be
a guy that would double much but some races would help
his strength in the 100!Congrats to Dusty & Nate and
the whole Nebraska Cornhusker Track Team for winning the
Big 12 Title.

Well as we know,Dusty Stamer finished 2nd in the nation
in the 60 meters for the National College Indoor
Championships in a new p.b. of 6.62!He continues to
improve with every race and fears no one!Here is a good

good he could be.

He looks like he was born to be a running back. Unbelievable
that he's not on his way to the NFL.

I forgot about it being on TV on Wednesday.I missed it.
Did anyone record it by chance?That really sucks.He
does have one hell of a finish and that's what will
help him outdoors.He has incredible strength through
his drive phase and beyond.He could have been another
L.Staley type only he is faster.In fact,I would be
willing to say that he would have been the fastest
running back in all of college and probably in the
nfl too.What a shame.It can turn out to be positive
though if he can be a huge role model like Wariner!He
has the talent!Keep it up Stamer!

Well guys,circle next weekend,March 25th & 26th on your
calender.Stamer and his teammates will be competing in
the first huge outdoor meet of the season.It is called
the Stanford Invitational and some of the best sprinters
in the nation will be there.There is a big difference
between indoors/60 meters and outdoors/100 meters.I am
anxious to see what type of times Dusty can run the 100
in.I don't expect anything incredible yet,it takes some
races outside & different training to build up to your
peak for outdoor track.If he could run his opener in
around the 10.40 range,I would be very happy with that.
Let's see if he can make a push to win the fastest man
in all of college sprinting outdoors.To do that,he will
have to run around a 10.00 flat by the end of May for
the NCAA Championships!Good luck Stamer!

If Dusty Stamer was the best runner in the 60
meters, shouldn't he be a favorite to win the 100 meters. The
stereotype seems to be that whites cannot be quick, but some can run
long races like Mennena(Spelling?) and Wariner. Stamer won a race
shorter than the 100 meters where quickness is more important.
Shouldn't this achievement earn Stamer(and whites in general) more
respect in the Track community?

Whites have won the fastest man in the world before over
60 meters.Just back in 2002,Morne Nagel was the fastest
man in the whole world over 60 meters.He didn't lose a
race the entire indoor season.Stamer has earned alot of
respect but in sprinting,outdoors is where all the
marbles are.We need an athlete like Stamer,Macro,Nagel,
Chyla,etc,to win an outdoor 100 meter championship.Even
over 200 meters,Kosta Kenteris of Greece was just about
unbeatable for around 3 years.Kenteris won the World
Championships,European Champs,and the Olympic Gold in
the 200 meters.
No white has won a gold medal in the 100 meters
since Allan Wells of Scottland back in 1980.Borzov won
a few medals in the 1970's & was the greatest sprinter
of his day.In the US,we haven't had a 100 meter gold
medalist since 1956,the great Bobby Morrow.We normally
don't even have any guys try out in this country.I
can't remember the last good white sprinter other than
Kevin Little in the 90's because of the stigma against
it.Stamer can be just like Wariner if he can suceed
against overwhelming odds.He has the talent and I wish
him the best of luck.

Back in the early to mid-fifties there was a sprinter out of Penn University by the name of John Haines who was a dominant 60 meter guy as he won consecutive NCAA and AAU indoor titles and his 60 meter success translated well for him in the 100 as well as he had a prettygood career with apperances in the U.S.Olympic trials in 1952 in the 100 where he finished 5th in his perliminary heat and he qualified for the 1956 trials where he finished 6th in the finals and finished 6th in his perliminary heat in the 400.

Yes I have read about him myself.Haines was an excellent
all around sprinter.Similar to Kevin Little in the 90's.
This week is one of the bigger outdoor track meets in
the nation.The Texas Relays always brings the best talent
in and the crowd is electric.Stamer and his Nebraska
teammates will be competing.I am anxious to see how
the Huskers and the Sun Devils do against some of the
other big schools.I am very anxious to see Stamer in his
first outdoor race of the season.I will say he runs in
the 10.35 range since it is his first race outdoors.I'm
also anxious to see the super sophmore out of ASU.Steve
Koehnemann has incredible potential.I see him as being
even better than Matt Bruno who is a junior at UCLA.I
don't know if UCLA or Bruno will be in Texas.I also want
to see Domenik Peterson of ASU continue to improve.He
has sub 20 potential in the 200 within one to two years!

Dusty Stamer won his heat in a time of 10.43 with no
wind to help him.He has moved on to the finals of the
Texas Relays.He has a excellent chance of possibly
beating everyone if he can get a little better start.
People don't realize how good Stamer is.Out of approx.
40 sprinters,he is one of the final 8 with the best
competition in the nation.This is also his first races
outdoors this season where as the other guys have some
races outside already.Go get him Stamer.I want to see
him win the final and for the idiots in the press and
track fans to give him the respect he deserves!!

Well,unfortanatley Stamer didn't have his best race in
the final.He got out of the blocks really slow and never
could quite get it going.He still ran a respectable time
in finishing 7th with a 10.38.Dusty needs to relax more
in the middle of his race.Sometimes he tightens up but
in this case,he was just trying to catch the field but
it was too late.He will be ok since it was his first
race outdoors and he did make the finals.In the 4 x 100
Relays,ASU was edged out by LSU but Peterson and
Koehnemann of ASU looked really strong.They will be one
of the teams to beat again this season.In the 4 x 400
Relay,Wariner ran the anchor leg and they had Rock on
the team to.They won easily.The 2nd place team had both
Mitch Potter and Adam Steele on it.It was a good meet
overall but I can't wait to see Stamer win some outdoor
races.Depending how he does over the next 2 months will
determine if he trys to turn pro.

I have a question for guys that know sprinting? Does Stamer need to improve his technique or explosiveness more? Did he finish seventh because he made technical errors? What errors did he make?

I guess my question is: Does Stamer have the raw speed to win an NCAA outdoor title, but just needs to refine it more to improve his time? OR Does Stamer need to improve his raw speed as well?
