In my opinion,Stamer has the raw speed and explosiveness
necessary to win the NCAA Championship 100 Meters Finals.
I think that it is his technique that could use some
work. You wouldn't want to change it too much.A good coach
like Phaff/Florida could help him to be a little more
smooth from his drive phase on.Too many sprinters seem
to tighten up over the last 30-40 meters.People don't
realize how hard it is to have speed endurance.Almost
anyone can run all out for 40 meters. With training, you
can run all out for 60 meters but no one in the world
can go all out for a 100 meters. It is not possible! The
quickest sprinters are the ones who accelerate up to
there top speed and relax enough in the last third of
the race to carry that speed through to the line.If you
try to push too much, you waste energy and actually end
up fighting yourself.Macrozonaris would have went sub
10 in Mexico in 2003 but he tightened up over the last
20 - 30 meters. He even admitted that he was so suprised
to be in the lead in lane 1 that he tried too hard.If
he would have only relaxed a little more,we would have
seen his first sub 10!!Stamer can and will go sub 10
with more training, both physical & mental. He has to
believe he can do it and stay smooth and controlled.
I wish him the best of luck as I am one of his biggest
fans.
