Sometimes they do. But they are quickly shown their place on the bench. See Adam Morrison.

Apparently he's not athletic enough to play in the league. This is what alot of scouts are saying as well as fans. They said the same thing about Redick and when given an opportunity this season he shined. Shows how much these so called "scouts" know about basketball.

FootballDad in response to the Morrison situation he started his first season and played almost 30 minutes per game. He shot only 37 percent which is terrible even for a rookie. He would have improved and could have been a good player by now but he only plays 7 minutes per game for the Lakers.

Big televised game Saturday afternoon with Duke playing formerly white friendly Gonzaga in a nice doubleheader with the Notre Dame/UCLA matchup that precedes it and a chance to see Luke Harangody in action.

J4 I agree about the Plumlee's, they have a ton of talent but need some polishing. PLease learn from Josh McRoberts mistake by turning pro after his sophomore year!!

the high-flying Olek Czyzis leavingDuke.

Duke sophomore forward Olek Czyz has made the decision to transfer, school officials announced Friday.

Czyz started the first two games of this season and had played in six of the team's nine contests. He averaged 2.5 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting .583 (7-of-12) from the field. But after playing 58 minutes in the opening four games, Czyz had seen his playing time dwindle drastically. He did not see the floor in games against Arizona State, Wisconsin and St. John's. And he averaged just 1.5 minutes of playing time in games against Connecticut and Gardner-Webb.

Czyz is the latest in a long line of players who have transferred out of the Duke program in the last five seasons. Also on that list: Eric Boateng (now a senior at Arizona State); Jamal Boykin (a senior at Cal); Taylor King (a sophomore at Villanova); and Elliot Williams (a sophomore at Memphis).

Czyz, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound native of Poland, saw action in 19 career games at Duke and finishes his career as a Blue Devil with 23 points, 24 rebounds, eight assists, one block and two steals.

"Olek has a bright future ahead of him and we wish him the best of luck," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "He has been a valued member of the Duke basketball family and we will support him through his impending transfer."
many claim that Czyz simply wasn't a good enough athlete to play in the ACC ... the video would seem to disagree.

best of luck to Czyz in his future. hopefully he'll transfer somewhere that will give him an opportunity ... Gonzaga, Pepperdine, Santa Clara, Stanford and several other White friendly schools out West all recruited him heavily out of high school if i recall correctly.Edited by: Jimmy Chitwood

Duke 76, Gonzaga 41

Jon Scheyer - 20 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals

What a defensive grind out game, NO Gonzaga player scored in double figures. The fact Jon Scheyer (Nolan Smith had 24 points) played so well against a perennial Division 1 powerhouse like Gonzaga proves he's NBA material.

Best of Luck to Olek Czyz!

I figured Olek would eventually transfer.. Hopefully he is not bitter about his time at Duke and has benefited from his time with Coach K. Duke is a deep school and there are only 5 starting spots i do not blame him for wanting to play!

Duke beat Long Beach State last night 84-63.

Jon Scheyer - 22 points, 6-12 3pt fg's, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals
Kyle Singler - 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal
Brian Zoubek - 10 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks

Zoubeck has really improved his game this year and become much tougher inside. He just needs to consistently keep the ball up when he rebounds with his 7-1 size and go don't bring it down to the floor like he is sometimes prone to do.

Duke defeated winless Pennsylvania 114-55

Kyle Singler - 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block
Jon Scheyer - 19 points, 4 rebounds, 11 assists, 1 steal
Miles Plumlee - 9 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist,
Brian Zoubek - 8 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal
Mason Plumlee - 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals

Duke is about to tip-off in ACC action, playing Clemson ina couple ofminutes on the Fox Sport Network (6:30 Central Standard Time). it should be a fun game to watch.in addition to all the White talent on Duke's roster,Clemson has a terrific athlete in two guard Tanner Smith.

unfortunately for Clemson fans, their outstanding shooter Terrence Oglesby left the team and took off to Europe to play ball, in a similar situation to Florida's Nick Calathes.

Duke 74, Clemson 53

Jon Scheyer - 22 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals
Kyle Singler - 16 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 blocks

There is a considerable chance of Scheyer being signed as an undrafted rookie. Looked no further to Barea's success in comparison. This guy has the size, skills, and "athleticism" to play point guard in the N-B-A.

i agree that it is likely that Scheyer will not be drafted despite his high level of play, however i have a question. in what way is his gamesimilar to Barea's?

Scheyer, who is 6-5, is not explosive off the dribble and is more of a ball-control point guard whose ability to create is set up by the necessity of guarding him closely on the perimeter due to his excellent long range shooting. he is also a very good rebounding guard.

conversely, Barea, who is 6-0, is an erratic shooter from the perimeter but has an incredibly quick first step and is creative off the dribble. his penetrating ability sets up the rest of his game. and he is a poor rebounder.

they both are excellent passers, however. and above average on-ball defenders.

i'm not trying to bust your balls, j41181. i'm just curious.

JC, nobody gave Barea (including ME unfortunately) much chance of succeeding in the NBA. His emergence has been an eye opener for me. Because of his emergence, I've develop considerable optimism of seeing Scheyer making it himself. If he does get signed as an undrafted rookie (as many whites seem to be these days), I see him having 2-3 quiet years, and out of nowhere make 8-12 points, and 4-5 assists a game. The same was true for Stockton, Nash, Price, Barea, and Dragic. Some of the best players were late bloomers. Redick will eventually make it himself. I can't say the same for Morrison.

I could make a similar case for Matt Bouldin. There have to be more white guards. Tall guys like Dirk have proven themselves overtime, now it's time for some serious white guards in place of Steve Nash. Edited by: j41181

gotcha, man. i see where you're coming from now. i hope you are right. although, i think Matt Bouldin may actually be drafted.
of course, as White American guards these guys have two BIG strikes against them. i mean, if high-flying, long-limbed wings like Lee Cummard and Micah Downs can't get a smell of the Association ...

This game was such a pleasure to watch. It was a real caste matchup with Clemson having five blacks on the floor some of the time. Tanner Smith did get considerable minutes though. The announcers were very fair and said that Kyle Singler may be the best defensive player in college basketball. They also called Miles Plumlee athletic and gave Duke's white players lots or props. If all announcers were like this I would actually enjoy watching college basketball games.

I enjoyed watching Duke win again tonight. They are by far the funnest team to watch in the country. Kyle Singler had 21 points and 15 rebounds! The Plumlee brothers played great too.Edited by: white lightning

Duke 90, Wake Forest 70

Kyle Singler - 21 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Miles Plumlee - 19 points, 14 rebounds
Jon Scheyer - 9 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals
Mason Plumlee - 11 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks

I watched some of this game last night. Singler is an incredible player. He can take guys off the dribble and score and is also a very effective spot up shooter. Not only that but his defense is top notch. The kid is the complete package.

All very true. Singler needs to put on 20lbs of muscle and he is ready for the NBA.

Not necessarily Guest301. Players like Kevin Durant are very skinny and successful in the NBA. He already weighs 230 and since he will most likely be playing the 3 in the NBA that is a good weight at this point. I wouldn't recommend bulking up for him.

After watching the Georiga Tech game I was kind of worried about singler's ability to score off the dribble. Maybe it was just an off night for Singler.. Idk

Good point on Durant, but the counterpoint would be that Singler is white and he will be overscrutinized for any possible flaw in his game and physical makeup and I can see many DWF's and scouts thinking he doesn't have a NBA body. There are ways you can bulk up without losing speed and quickness, 20 lbs on Singler's frame could be easily added.

Look at Mike Miller, his physical stature was already decent (218 lbs in early years). But, he bulked up (230-240 lbs), and it cost his quickness and durability. His knees could not handle the extra weight, and he's become injury prone. Extra weight can actually lead to injuries. Look at Dirk Nowitzki in 2003-2004, he was at his heaviest ever (255 lbs) and he played on one foot for much of the season. The moment he lost weight (240 lbs again), he's hardly had foot problems since. Mike Miller shouldn't have bulked up, I hope Kyle Singler doesn't go the same route. I think extra 10 pounds is good enough.
