I watched Dirk light up the Pistons last night. Is there any other player in the NBA that can simply score on every inch of the court with ease like Dirk? Seems like in the 80s you had guys like Bird, Alex English, Bernard King and Chris Mullin who had that skill, yet it seems to have disappeared in today's NBA game. Maybe growing up with the 3pt line has done it.

Funny how you hear that white players are stiff and lack the fluidity of black players (or the infamous hip swivel in football), yet Dirk looks completely fluid as he drives, shoots, spins, etc.

I agree with you and Dirk puts the ball down on the floor and drives to the bucket or posts his man up alot more times than the announcers give him credit for. Dirk is more than a spot up shooter, a hell of a alot more than that.
Dirk is by far one of the smoothest offensive players ever to grace the NBA. His scoring and shooting just seems effort less, and he is way more than a spot up shooter. He is one of the best all-around shooters ever, to go with his rebounding, and passing (if he needs to). He deserves to be mentioned with great all-around shooters like Reggie Miller, Larry Bird, Rick Barry, Pete Maravich, Jeff Hornacek, and Ray Allen.

For his size, Nowitzki is the best shooting big man ever, unmatched in every shooting aspect: 3pt's, fade-away and fall-away shots, pull-up jumpers, turnaround shots, stop 'n pop, and pick 'n pop. His 1st step and drive to the hoop is impressive for a players his size, and his post-up game is vastly improved, something he has been doing for the past 5 years. And his defense has been respectable for some years now, good enough to help a team win a championship. A truly one of a kind this player Dirk Nowitzki is.

Dirk Nowitzki is Larry Bird in reincarnation!!!!

Hits the game-winning shot with 1.1 seconds left to beat Indiana 94-92. Big win for Dallas, and I saw this one live!

Dirk had 23 points on a though 10-26 FG shooting night, but the winning shot is all that counts. This man is a true MVP, a true LEGEND. Way to go, Dirk!!!

Dirk has now 8 game-winning shots under his belt (7 in NBA, 1 in International):

beat Phoenix- NBA road
beat Phoenix- NBA home
beat Philadelphia - NBA road
beat LA Clippers- NBA road
beat Utah   - NBA home
beat Toronto- NBA home
beat Indiana- NBA road
beat Spain  - International

Dirk is without doubt the closest thing to another Larry Bird.

Big-time performance by Dirk Nowitzki:

30 points (9-17 FG's, 2-5 3pt's, 10-10 FT's)
6 rebounds
1 assist

He led Dallas to an important 98-96 win over Miami. Dallas is in a very tight playoff race, and with Dirk playing major minutes all the way, he's about to make history. He is on course to score 2,000 points for the season, and it will be the 4th one for his career. Larry Bird was the last whitey to score 2,000 points 4-times in his career. Dirk is on pace to break 20,000 points and overtake Larry Bird very soon. Clearly a phenomenal player this Dirk Nowitzki is, I figure he can play high-level ball for another 3-4 years.

I am one of his biggest fans. What a player! I really wish they would have beat Miami in the Nba Finals several years ago. I think the refs determined the series. Wade lived on the free throw line. He was shooting around 15-20 freebies a game. All of the Dallas Players and the Coach complained but to no avail.

Wade is a great player but they couldn't even get near him. He would go to the line if someone was within two feet of him. What a joke. Should have been Dirks year.

White Lightning, We share the same bitter memories of that Heat/Mavs finals a couple of years ago. Wade was a great player then and even better now but there sure were alot of phantom fouls in that series and Wade lived at the free throw line. The Mavs still should have won that series after they were up 2-0 and had a double digit lead in game three late, but Game 6 was the crucial game and the refs totally screwed the Mavs out of a deciding game 7 that would have been in Dallas.

in the above mentioned series, Dwyane Wade shot more free throws as an individual than the entire Dallas Mavericks roster.

the "officiating" was so blatantly in favor of protecting the presumed black Jesus of the NBA at that time (Wade) that there was even a website established that showed a ridiculous number of the obvious non-fouls that were still somehow called and resulted in Wade going to the free throw line.

basically, the whole series was as follows: Dwyane Wade drives into the lane whilstthrowing up some off-balance garbage shot, then he fell down. if he missed the shot, the whistles blew, and he went to the free throw line. if he made the shot, and there was a Dallas defender within two feet, the whistles still blew and he had an and-1 opportunity.

truly, it was as pathetic a farce as has ever happened in professional sports.

Gentlemen, the reason is very simple:

Wade got an NBA title no thanks to the refs, the NBA, and Dirk's teammates. We are not alone in that claim, many also see a foul play in the outcome. Although it is irreversible, it will always be there, a stigma on both the careers of Wade and Dirk. They will forever be linked to that scandal.

Wade maybe riding high, but so is Dirk. I congratulate Dirk many times over for remaining positive despite being denied an NBA title. He has gotten so much better ever since the 2006 Finals, in light of early back to back playoff exits.

Regardless of what will be said of him, there is no doubt that Dirk has place among the NBA's All-Time Greats. His number 41 will be proudly retired, he will be proudly enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and his name alone will forever attain iconic status in the sport. Dirk Nowitzki is the name. That just shows what a bad market strategy the NBA has for growing the game. This series happened in 2006, the MVP award had just went to white guys three years in a row, Nash two and Dirk that very same 2006 season. If officiated fairly the Mavs would have likely won their first championship and the NBA would have seemed less afro-centric and hip hop in everything. But with the screw job they did to the Kings earlier and to the Mavs that year, a bitter taste was left in the mouth of alot of white fans of the NBA. Some of us are still talking and in this thread posting about it today.

That's right, keep posting, and posting about it. Never forget about those things. The travesty the NBA has done to the 2002 Kings, and the 2006 Mavs should never be forgotten. Let it be a reminder on how bias the NBA is towards teams with very good white players.

Dirk knocks in 35 points despite his team losing. He is getting close towards 2,000 points for the 4th time in career.

They need that 7th spot in the playoffs to avoid the Lakers in the first round. They are one game behind the Jazz. If the Mavs take a first round exit again, Dirk will be blamed no matter how stupid it would be.

They just answered your call dude! Dallas just massacred Phoenix 140-116 in a must-win game. They are just 1/2 a game behind Utah. Dallas is 46-31, Utah is 46-30, Utah plays in New Orleans today, if they lose, they are now tie. Though I think Utah has the tiebreaker to Dallas.

Dirk was just brilliant in this game:

28 points (10-12 FG's, 1-1 3pt's, 7-8 FT's)
3 rebounds
4 assists

Yep, they sure did j41181. Thats sets up a pivotal game against the Jazz this Weds. night on national TV. I like the white friendly Jazz and if the Mavs don't make a deep playoff push, I hope Okur, AK47, Korver and co do well.

As the season winds down, Dirk continues to deliver when it counts time 'n time again, and it's also refreshing that his teammates are also stepping up when he needs all the help in the world. Dirk helped Dallas to an important win 130-101 over Utah, further cementing their playoff chances, and putting the 7th spot up for grabs. Dallas now needs to beat New Orleans to get that 7th spot, and go up as high as the 6th seed.

Kudos to Dirk and his teammates!

Captain Dirk and I say that in a good way. He is the leader of this team and a role model for white athletes all around the world. What an incredible player he is.

You do a great job with the nba section j41181. Keep up the great work. I look forward to your posts. Especially with the playoffs on the horizon.

I enjoy your posts as well, j41181. I'm not super in-tune with the NBA, and you certainly help to clue me in to the white athletes worth watching.

Keep up the good work!

The next two games for the Mavs are the home and road thing against the Hornets and they have a great shot at getting the 6th seed and a possible matchup against the very injured and aging Spurs team.

Their right just there dude, Dallas just trampled the Hornets 100-92. Utah just lost to the Spurs 105-99. The 6th to 8th playoff spots are now up for grabs. Dallas has a strong chance to take 6th spot and indeed face the aging Spurs. Dirk has just made history, 2,000 points for the 4th time in a season! The last white player to do that, LARRY BIRD in 1987-88. You the man, Dirk! 19,000 points is just around the corner for Dirk Nowitzki!

Man is that alot of points. I will have to frame the jersey I have of him some day. I have two. One I wear on occasion and the other one is brand new and going to stay that way. What we need is a ring for Dirk. Let's hope they can shock some people in the playoffs.

Jamal Mashburn said tonight paraphrased
"Josh Howard is key to the Mavs doing well, he can beat a man off the dribble."

I am sick of people acting as if Dirk can't beat other forwards off the dribble. Dirk is an agile big man who can post you up, pick and pop, or dribble past you for room for a dagger J! Dirk has an all-round game and if not for some questionable officiating, he would have not only a season MVP, but a championship ring as well!

It's a shame a lot of people don't seem to acknowledge Dirk despite all the amazing accomplishments he has done throughout his career. He's being viewed as an afterthought or something.
smiley5.gif

Well no matter, here in Caste Football, I will continue saluting him, he's a one of a kind white player, the likes of which have not been since the days of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Tom Chambers, Chris Mullin, John Stockton, and Jeff Hornacek.
smiley2.gif

He also measures up to the more noticed black players around the league (past and present), not to mention he will go down as one of the most unique and best players ever. Despite the several unfair officiating calls there have been against him, he will continue to strive and prove his critics wrong time 'n time again.

All that's needed for Dirk now is a championship ring, I still feel there is reasonable hope that he will eventually get it one day. For now, let's just enjoy every individual success he makes each game. The last white player to reach 20,000 points was TOM CHAMBERS in 1995, when he was playing for Utah. Dirk will reach that historic plateau next season, and I will be there to enjoy that historic moment.

Dirk Nowitzki has scored 20 or more points in 22 consecutive games. It's the longest streak in the NBA.

Welcome back Riggins. I agree with you. If you take a look at the stats j41181 posted earlier, Dirk was 9-11 at the free throw line. When you routinely go to the free throw line that many times in a game, that usually indicates a player who drives to the basket off his dribble and gets fouled. No pure jump shooter goes to the free throw line 11 times in a game.

I got a Dirk jersey and cap and often wear it proudly in the small town in Ohio where I live surrounded sadly by Lebron jerseys even though the town is 98% white.

I believe it was game 3- the Mavs were about to beat the Heat (up by 10 late in the game) to go up 3-0 in the series. However, Wade was sent to the line over and over at the end of this game and the Heat came back. Instead of the Mavs going up 3-0, they dropped four games in a row and lost the series.
smiley19.gif
There were at least a few questionable calls in this game, but it was nowhere near as bad as the Sacramento-Lakers series of 2002. You'd have to be literally blind to actually call the Lakers the rightful champs that year.
