that sucks, so much for them running the "12 personnel" package. Its supposedly the new thing in the NFL, two tight ends lined up that can both catch and block equally as well. The only team that came close was the Patriots, and Herandez couldn't block on the same level as Gronkowski. I am guessing when they got Pitta they were expecting him to be the 2nd tight end in these sets and Dickson to be the 1st tight end, but like expected Pitta did better.
If the NFL is serious about running the 12 personnel package then we have a better chance of seeing more White guys on the field, albeit two White tight ends but still, used more in a receiving role because the idea is that dbs are too small to cover them and linebackers are too slow and its a complete mismatch having two of them to cover. The only problem is most teams only want to have one White tight end at the most on the field so the 2nd tight end is usually much inferior. If they did use 2 then we should see the rise in hybrid s/lb, usually White, like Cooper Taylor that came out this year.
