Pitta is reportedly out for the entire 2013 season after dislocating a hip going for a pass against a Ravens safety during practice today. He was set to be Joe Flacco's main target this season and become an elite tight end after Anquan Boldin left the Ravens for San Francisco after the Super Bowl. He's already undergone hip surgery.

Ed Dickson will take Pitta's place. With the loss of Pitta, Paul Kruger and Matt Birk from last season, the Ravens will be an ultra-black team in '13.

That is horrible news, Don. Pitta was one of my favorite players when he was at BYU. I hope he can bounce back from this next year, but it is tough to be hopeful when second chances for White players are so few and far between.

I'm absolutely gutted for him, he fights to earn the starting job on a very dark Ravens squad, performs week in week out as the talented player he is.... just when he starts to make a career/name for himself, this happens, sad. I really hope he can recover

I feel the same way. I believe he will be a free agent next off-season. If Baltimore signs him to big money, I'm fine with that as he'll be entrenched as the starter. If not, I hope he moves on to whiter pastures.

that sucks, so much for them running the "12 personnel" package. Its supposedly the new thing in the NFL, two tight ends lined up that can both catch and block equally as well. The only team that came close was the Patriots, and Herandez couldn't block on the same level as Gronkowski. I am guessing when they got Pitta they were expecting him to be the 2nd tight end in these sets and Dickson to be the 1st tight end, but like expected Pitta did better.

If the NFL is serious about running the 12 personnel package then we have a better chance of seeing more White guys on the field, albeit two White tight ends but still, used more in a receiving role because the idea is that dbs are too small to cover them and linebackers are too slow and its a complete mismatch having two of them to cover. The only problem is most teams only want to have one White tight end at the most on the field so the 2nd tight end is usually much inferior. If they did use 2 then we should see the rise in hybrid s/lb, usually White, like Cooper Taylor that came out this year.

Bad news for Pitta.. UDFA MAtt Furstenberg(4.62 40) should benefit from this terrible injury. However I did see the Ravens signed Shiancoe.
