David Price knocked out John McDermott in round one today. From fightnews:

In a clash for the English heavyweight title and final eliminator for the British and Commonwealth championship, unbeaten 2008 Olympic gold medalist David Price (12-0, 10 KOs) destroyed John McDermott (26-8, 17 KOs) in the first round on Saturday at Liverpool Olympia in Liverpool, England. The 6’8 Price dropped McDermott three times, the third time for the count. The bout lasted 73 seconds.

Decent win for Price. McDermott isn't a top heavyweight, but he's no slouch either. He went the distance with Tyson Fury and has some talent.

He looked spectacular and didn't the mechanical look he had in the amateurs. Obviously this is a long way from the K brothers or even Povetkin. I suspect because the money won't be big enough Fury won't fight him at this point in their careers.

Remember, we still have the White Wolf fighting slow Eddie Chambers tonight. It would be a great win for Sergei but I don't know if he can pull it off. If he shows up in great shape he has a decent chance to pull it out.

Chambers backed out on short notice.

Chambers knew he wouldn't be able to fight a week before, but didn't inform them. It was too late to find a good replacement by the time he let them know.

Here's an article about it from fightnews:

They now have two undefeated negroes fighting in the main event.

Wow - spectacular win! I thought he would KO McDermott, but not so quickly! I'd like to see Price-Fury, and I'd pick Price. There's no love lost between those two either.

I think Fury is underrated, he might not be the most technically sound fighter with the crispest punches but his fights are entertaining plus he kicked Chisora's arse.
I'm a Fury fan :icon_cool: even though i would favor Price over him.

In the woods at my still.
I dont care much for Price or Fury or any of the western white fighters. They had fifty years to give us a world champion, but most sold their fans out for the big money as fast as they could...

A lot of them have let us down with drug and alcohol abuse.

It would be a good fight. Price beat Fury in the amateurs.

Today's news:

Price: Fury will be a coward if he does not fight me now

In my own opinion, Im usually reluctant to put faith in a Western European white or North American white fighter. Usually I find that such fighters tend to have a psychological/mental disadvantage, caste-system issues, cultural marxist issues etc. Generally speaking, I find that Eastern European or Southern European athletes achieve much more and more reliable in boxing.

So much of boxing has to do not only with training and skills, but also with mentality, confidence, and smart fighter management. In the latter regards, I feel Western white fighters are many times disadvantaged. Ricky Hatton, Donnie Lalonde, Tommy Morrison, Gerry Cooney etc are Western white fighters that I would say had confidence issues and/or bad career management.

In any case, there are many exceptions to this rule I have described. Joe Calzaghe is a Western white who routinely beat Negroes post to post, and achieved so much in the boxing ring, retiring undefeated as one of the greatest boxers of alltime. Carl Froch is also a very accomplished guy, Kelly Pavlik before his fall from grace was a very accomplished guy and his KO win over Taylor was truly breathtaking.

The greatness of Joe Calzaghe was truly breathtaking. Understand that we have a white man here, who dominated and beat probably the greatest black fighter of the last 20 years (Bopkins). Tremendous career achievements from Joe and he truly was world-class in every sense of the term.

I feel David Price is a notable exception to the rule as well.

I really like what Im seeing from David Price. He seems to have excellent timing, excellent power, good speed, very smart boxing IQ. I also like that Price is an Olympian and has a great amateur boxing background. The two things I question of Price is his ability to take a punch/deal with a fight, stamina, and no doubt we'll find that out as his career moves along.

Another good sign for Price is that he has already fought numerous Negroes and seemed to have no problem KOing them early. Thats a good sign and shows his confidence is in a good way.

Check it out:
David Price KO Raphael Butler
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEuT_MHF_tc

David Price also KO'd African Osborn Machimana very impressively, but that KO doesnt seem to be on youtube.

In any case Im very optimistic for David Price. He looks sensational so far. I just hope he will keep it up. No worries if he doesn't though. There are so many Russians/Ukrainians in heavyweight boxing who will keep up Euro rule of heavyweight long after Klitschko's retire. :)

I agree, Im a big Tyson Fury fan. I love his style, lol. Before his fight with Chisora he challenged Chisora to a fight at a different boxing card and basically instigated a brawl and shouting match with Dereck in the stands, lol. What an awesome guy!

(Unclassy behaviour I know, but you have to admit its funny!)

However, one of the issues with Tyson Fury seems to be his personal life/mental health. He has been reported as suffering from severe depression and having manic episodes. Maybe things are OK, but its not a good sign.

Tyson Fury is a great guy, very talented fighter and Id love to see him do well!

"The greatness of Joe Calzaghe was truly breathtaking..."

But, cocaine too:

But what the hell - if their stinking presidents can snort the stuff I guess boxers can too - and they've now had AT LEAST the last three presidents in a row who were heavy users of illegal narcotics.

Well, as they say, no human being can be perfect right.

Joe was a truly exceptional boxer. One of the best of alltime. Unquestionably the best super middleweight of alltime. Joe should occupy a similar alltime standing as Mayweather or Pacquiao. In fact, you could make the argument that his W 12 over Hopkins is better than any single result on Mayweather's record. Hopkins is also one of the greatest fighters alltime, and Joe beat him. Joe deserves a huge amount of credit for that and he deserves to be rated above Jones Jr and Hopkins alltime, as well as on par with or above guys like Pacquiao, Mayweather.

The one criticism of Joe is that he waited until the tail end of his career to get into the hugely meaningful fights. There is some merit in that criticism but its also an American-centric argument.

But no one is perfect.

Joe is such a talent in the ring, but yes he's had his problems outside the ring.

No such thing as a 100% perfect role model! I am thankful to him for his boxing accomplishments!

I agree that Calzaghe is the best super middle weight of all time. The media and DWF's seem to disagree though. Joe's wins over Hopkins and Jones aren't considered legit wins because both were old when Joe fought them. Yet Jones is still competitive with the best in the division and Hopkins is beating the best in the division. You figure out their logic. Many consider either James Toney or Roy Jones Jr as the best super middleweights of all time.

What about Dariusz Michalczewski? He was 46-0 before his final two fights. Roy Jones was careful to avoid him.

Calzaghe is easily the best super middleweight of all time and a bona fide ATG fighter. Joe has never and will never receive the recognition he deserves from the caste media in the US because he's a white man.

Dariusz Michalczewski is probably the most underrated boxer of my lifetime.

Another who never received the recognition he deserves is Henry Maske.

I don't think they ever showed a single fight by either Mich. or Maske on US tv.

Two Virgil Hill fights against Darius and Maske were on ABC Saturday afternoon boxing in the late 90's. Darius won and Maske lost a tight fight that he blew by giving away the early rounds against the skilled but boring Hill.

Price makes his US debut March 24th in Atlantic City, same card as Wach-Fields.

Sam Sexton will be Price's opponent on Saturday May 19.

Too bad his promoter can't have Price fight more often.

What happened to the March fight in the US? I think Sexton will be his toughest opponent so far. Fury hates him. He's always bad-mouthing him. Price beat Fury in the amateurs.
