Yup,that Atlas sure is an idiot.First he said watch out for Lemieux's left then after the secound knockdown he said watch for the right as it turns out it was the left that ended it so with that type of logic he can't be wrong since he only has two arms unless of course Lemieux starts using his feet.
 
What impresses me about Lemieux is that only one fighter has gone the distance with him. He hasn't faced any A level fighters as of yet but Ayala is a decent opponent and he got rid of him in one round.
 
David Lemieux will be in with the tough and experienced Hector Camacho Jr this coming Friday Oct 29 in Montreal.

WBC International Middleweight Champion David Lemieux of Canada went to 24-0, 23 knockouts and defended his title with a first round knockout of Hector Camacho Jr. at Bell Centre, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. After some feeling out in the first minute of the round, Lemieux had Camacho wobbling round the ring from the opening bell with right hands. A big right hand which landed had Camacho in trouble midway through the round and desperately trying to hold onto Lemieux, who spun away from the attempts and continued landing straight power rights. A straight right hand by Lemieux with Camacho trapped on the ropes knocked out Camacho cold, slowly falling off the ropes unconscious to the canvas for the full ten count for the first time in his 57 bout career. Camacho, now 52-4-1, in his first bout in Canada, was never in this bout. On regaining consciousness some time later, Camacho had no idea what happened to him. Under Rule 5(a)(i) of the Canadian Boxing Federation, Camacho received a sixty day suspension, which will be recognized in the United States.

I wonder if Lemieux is possibly the best middleweight out there. His KO percentage is incredible at 95 %. He's beaten several good fighters in Camacho and Smichet. He should be fighting for a title very soon.
 
Don't forget his KO 1 over Elvin Ayala - who has a draw with Sergio Mora and who fought for the title against Arthur Abraham in 2008 (getting stopped in the 12th).

If Lemieux had the proper pigmentation he would be on the cover of SI and already would have been the subject of 2-3 adoring profiles on ESPN as the savior of boxing.
 
Crushing Camacho was not a surprise. It was putting a name fighter on your ledger without a great risk, plus a great payday. Look forward to seeing his next fight.
 
If Lemieux survives the chin check test it looks like the sky is the limit. That ko was something out of UFC I, II or III....

David fights afflete Purnell Gates this Friday in Montreal. It looks like a WBC middleweight eliminator afterwards, possibly against Marco Rubio.

That was bizarre. Gates shouldn't get a penny for such a gutless showing. Lemieux's trainer was pretty annoyed afterwards.
 
There should be a working stream HERE for Rubio-Lemieux.

But it doesn start until the ESPN2 tape delay telecast at 11 PM Eastern and 8 PM Pacific.

However, ESPN3 is streaming it live on the internet at 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific.
 
I just missed the fight. It looks like Lemieux didn't survive his first chin check against the gritty Mexican veteran. I tend to agree with commentators views. Even if it's the metrosexual Tessitore and Uncle Teddy. He will need to be brought back at a slower pace before he fights at this level again.
 
Just finshed watching the fight, a couple of things.

1st, David is explosive and has talent. 2nd, he needs to relaxed a bit more and use his excellent jab. 3rd, I hope he doesn't have a glass jaw or unable to absorb hard shots. He was not gassed, just hurt by Rubio's heavy hands.

4th, Dave needs to learn that once hurt, you need to grab your opponent to clear your head. I think his corner was premature in stopping it. Dave has to learn how to weather the storm. 5th, for some reason, I think Dave belongs at Junior Middleweight at this point.

Kind of a shock, I thought for certain he would blow out Rubio within 8 rds. Man, Rubio displayed great vetaren heart and skill in weathering the storm for 6 rounds and land precision shots in the 6th that started to turn the tide . Hopefully Dave learn's from this and considers Junior middleweight on his comeback.

Ah well, he's young, there's a lot of room for improvement. There will more opportunites for him in the future. David's jaw may have been broken too. The right side of his face looked very swollen in the corner a round or two before.

Most of the time David blasted guys out in a couple of rounds so there was going to be questions about what would happen against a good quality opponent who he wouldn't be able to destroy early.

Another thing, Joe Tessitore mentioned David's "ethnic background" and how his mother is Lebanese. Not true. His mother is Armenian.

DL: I speak five languages. I speak French, English, Armenian, Lebanese and a bit of Spanish. I'm learning Spanish and getting a lot better now. I learned all of these languages in different ways.

DL: Well, my mom is Armenian, but she was born in Lebanon. So she speaks Armenian and Lebanese. And my step father is also Armenian, so the first language in the family was Armenian.

Just watched the fight as well. Good fight, decent action. Couple of points (and you know, hindsight is always 20/20, so its much easier to say all of this after the fact)

1) Even leading up to the fight, I felt like Lemieux was being rushed a bit. Yes, he had a notable amateur career. But this guy is 22 years old. There's a reason there aren't many 22 year old champions. Because they dont have the mental maturity or experience level. So I feel Lemieux was rushed into this fight, and should have had say 1.5 years more experience, or 3 to 4 fights.

2) Even though he lost, Lemieux still showed excellent punching power, and heart. No question this guy is talented. Its just a matter of realizing that talent, getting him the right fights.

3) This is not a bad loss. Lemieux was not knocked out cold. I applaud Lemieux's trainer Russ Anber for stopping the fight, as Lemieux was dropped and taking punches. It was the correct time to stop the fight. Had the fight not been stopped, its very likely Lemieux would have been dropped again, and perhaps KO'd out cold or unconcious.

So its not a bad loss. It could have been worse. Lemieux is very young, obviously has talent. Its just a matter of him realizing that talent. He needs 5-6 comeback fights, perhaps even more. And he needs to go some rounds.

Then when he's 25/26/27, he'll be in a better position to challenge at this level.
 
Lemieux's trainer did an excellent job to stop the fight, in my opinion. I would have done the same. Had the fight not been stopped, Lemieux would have taken a lot of punishment and this would have been a worse loss.

Having a young fighter its important to stop the fight before he gets too hurt, which minimizes the negative impact to his future standing!

So great work by Russ Anber.

Yes he was getting ktfo if his corner doesn't save him. No need to potentially ruin a blue chip prospect. I finally saw this fight and it reminded me of Mercer vs Morrison without the dramatic knock out. The difference was that it didn't look like Lemieux gassed himself. Maybe Lemiuex should drop 6 pounds and head south to the junior middleweight division as he has never really had a hard body for the middleweight division. When Pavlik fought Rubio he basically hurt Rubio at will and took the fight slowly out of the gritty Mexican. It looked like when Rubio adjusted to Lemiuex's speed and power he was able to ride out the storm.
 
Lemieux is a good example of why I only follow the career's eastern european fighters for the most part. Western White fighters like Lemieuxand Fury are really no different than the Bobby Czyz's or Tommy Morrison's of the past. Thanks to the caste system, They don't get the real deep amatur boxing experience that nonwhites get in the west. And most [like Lemieux] are in a hurry to cash in on their fame.

There'sreally no nonwhites in eastern europe, so the native born men get the best training..
 
Good comments from lost, 759852372 and BoxingFanUK. I think Lemieux may return a better fighter, a loss at age 22 to a veteran doesn't mean the end for a boxer. Rubio fought intelligently and deserves credit for weathering the early storm and coming out on top.

I agree David should try fighting at light middleweight. His height and short reach of 64" puts him at a disadvantage, especially against a taller, longer middleweight like Rubio. There were many hard punches that fell just short of Rubio last night, if Lemieux's arm were a little longer Rubio might have been KOed.

I'm not questioning the decision to stop the fight, but I've never liked Russ Anber as a commentator or as a trainer. It seems I've seen him in a losing fighter's corner more often than anyone except Buddy McGirt.

Anber seems to dislike fighters like Ricky Hatton and Rocky Marciano, he likes slick defensive fighters and has always spoken badly of aggressive ring warriors. I realize Lemieux has been with him a long time, but he might be wise at this point to start to work with someone else, perhaps Lucian Bute's trainer.
