To a very humble and modest warrior who is one of the best quarterbacks to play the game. It's too bad he didn't make a few more super bowls but the stats and longevity of his career make him an all time legend.

I put Drew Brees in the top five all-time. One of my favorite memories of the NFL will always be Drew Brees dropping back, scanning the field and finding his target and then hitting him with pinpoint accuracy.

Drew can still play at a very high level, but he realized this past post-season that it's unlikely he'll beat Tom Brady, the only QB who has played better than Brees at a similar age. What a career, disparaged early on for his lack of height, yet he played at the highest elite level for 20 years. The Dolphins consigned themselves to bottom feeder status when they went for Daunte Culpepper over Brees in 2005, maybe the stupidest move in NFL history.

The closest comparison to Brees because of their similar supposed lack of stature for the position is Russell Wilson. Wilson is nine years younger, let's see if Wilson is even starting in six years, much less playing at an elite level when he's 42. Wilson has been the very rare Black QB to have an apparently long-lasting career, but I'll be more than surprised if he even sniffs what Brees has done.

Great career, and Drew Brees' character as a role model and a man has been just as great.

Congrats indeed to Drew Brees! The video he posted with his kids announcing his retirement was great too. One of The Best to ever do it. An inspiration for shorter Guys too! You don't have to be 6'4 220 to be a successful NFL QB!

Brees is absolutely one of my all-time favorite players, let alone quarterbacks. My only knock is his caving to the woke mob last year when he made logical, true statements about honoring the nation that has blessed them so much. He caved to the woke mob.

Other than that, nothing he has done is short of exemplary. Super Bowl win, records galore, pinpoint accuracy, etc.

Miami did indeed make a foolish decision; they still are with their new chosen one.

Brees is also one of my all time favorites. I was a big fan of his when he was playing for Joe Tiller at Purdue in the late 90's, when Brees led one of most exciting offenses in the country. The late Chargers GM John Butler made one of the best trades in history when he passed on Michael Vick and ended up with Brees and LaDainian Tomlinson in the 2001 draft. One of the most important parts of Brees' career was with the Chargers in 2003-2004. In the 2003 season, Marty Schottenheimer lost faith in him and benched him for a 41 year old Doug Flutie. The Chargers went into the 2004 draft determined to replace Brees, first with Eli Manning and then with Philip Rivers. Brees responded with a Pro Bowl season and led the Chargers to a 12-4 record after going 4-12 the year before, his HOF career was then off and running. Amazing how close to finished Brees was as a starting QB, but he fought back to be one of the greatest ever.

I have to wonder if that played a role in Brees deciding to retire. Rather than have to deal with the communist BLM nonsense in the locker room. It's ironic because he probably did more for that city than any of his black teammates and he gets called out by a bunch of militant black teammates pushing a fake agenda.

Spot on New Orleans was in turmoil after Katrina and The Saints were 3-13 prior to signing Brees.

Thanks for the recap of the early part of his career. I obviously lived through it but my memory had faded and I hadn’t really thought about it in a long time. It is remarkable that a future HOFer could have been kicked to the curb prematurely if things played out a little differently.
