College Hoops Season 2025-26

here’s an interesting tidbit …

over the past 9 seasons with Matt Painter at the helm, Purdue has had 7 all-Americans. during that same span, they’ve had ZERO top-30 prospects AND ZERO top-30 recruiting classes.

yet, they start the season ranked #1 in the nation, with a preseason consensus all-American at point guard (who is also a candidate for national PoY), and they’ve been amongst the best teams in the nation for much of that timeframe. how is this possible if the “talent evaluation” by the “experts” is correct?
Excellent post!

With his appearance (hair and complexion) I’m getting flashbacks of another super bouncy White athlete. Chase Budinger. Stud basketball and volleyball player. Guy could, and probably still can, jump out of the gym.
Good call! Buddinger was a freak before the knee injuries!

it’s possible that the two best point guards in ALL of college basketball are overachieving, blue collar, gym rats who play in the Big Ten: Braden Smith for Purdue and Bennett Stirtz for Iowa.

more to come as the season progresses …

I agree - there is a good argument to be made that they are the two top guards in the entire country! At the very least, they are two out of probably the top four in the nation. It is also worth noting the lack of attention both Smith and Stirtz received in recruiting. Smith was not a top 200 player coming out of high school yet he has managed to start every game since he arrived at Purdue. Stirtz had to start out at Division II Northwest Missouri State before making his way to Drake and now to Iowa. Stirtz has legitimate NBA lottery pick hype.

Badgers handled business against NIU. Winning 97-72.

Nolan Winter has 12pts, 7reb, 1ast, and 2blks

Austin Rapp with 8pts and 6reb

Andrew Rohde with 8pts, 2ast, and a steal

Aleksas Bielauskas had 8pts, 4reb, and a steal off the bench

Will Garlock 5pts, 2reb, 2ast

Jack Janicki 2pts, 3reb, 2ast, and 3steals off the bench

Even Issac Gard scored 5 in his minute of play!

sorry for the brief post, but i’m headed to coach my kids in just a few minutes …

some really intriguing matchups tonight, especially the very-White Creighton (6 featured gym rats in their rotation) Bluejays versus the unfortunately dark Gonzaga Bulldogs (only two blue collar players featured, including talented Spanish freshman Saint-Supry) contest. both are highly ranked and high scoring. it should be a fun game to watch.

Florida’s big frontline (Haugh, Condon, and Handlogten) look to be dominant, but will their backcourt share the ball? tonight they face off against some WGAs from Florida State in an early season rivalry game.

very affletic Texas Tech will face off with very overachieving Illinois in another early season showdown between two highly touted teams.

go Crackers!

Spaniard Aday Mara has 10 points 10 rebounds 5 assists and 3 blocks! Still 12:41 left! Michigan got a good one by way of UCLA.

Buffalo beat DePaul tonight and their leading scorer was junior guard Ryan Sabol. Sabor, from the DC area, is averaging 20 points a game so far this season and just scored 20 again in the upset win tonight. He is shooting around roughly 40% from the field so far and slightly better than that from three - could be a name to watch. Buffalo also starts Angelo Brizzi, who formerly played at Villanova, Longwood, and Davidson.

Ryan Sabol - an underrated MAC player!

I have been watching Texas Tech and Illinois and Texas Tech actually has Nolan Groves, a young guard from Minnesota, playing a decent role off of the bench. He is a true freshman and is averaging 7 points a game so far. Texas Tech isn't exactly a White friendly basketball program since Beard left, but it is still encouraging to see.

Iowa up big on Xavier midway 2nd half. 4/5 White lineup at the time I type this. On FS1 for anyone who reads this in time.

Samford started five of our guys against a top 25 Arkansas team and only lost by 4 yesterday! Cade Norris, a sophomore guard, was tied for the leading scorer with 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting. We can add this one as another example of a heavily White team playing a nationally ranked opponent much closer than what was expected (like Duke-Vermont 2013, Portland-UNC in 2022, some games involving Saint Thomas, etc).

Arkansas spent nearly $10 million this year alone on NIL to “recruit” their roster. Samford, well, not so much. apparently, all that money, all the additional gimme dats, and the usual bad behavior associated with all-black anything is worth exactly a 4-point win over a bunch of White kids who just enjoy playing basketball.

as an addendum, Samford’s all-White starting five has already played 4 road games (out of 5 total), currently have a 3-2 record, and has faced a total of 3 White starters combined from their 5 opponents (Tulane had 1, Central Arkansas had 2). how is it possible that Samford, with their “obvious lack of talent,” has a winning record against all those “real” affletes?

“weird,” huh?

Buying college basketball players doesn’t seem to work as well as football. Last year Rutgers bought two NBA lottery picks, but didn’t even make the tournament.

Very well put. The same could be said about UT Martin. UT Martin is currently undefeated having beat both UNLV and Bradley. Remarkably, UT Martin has done this with their top 9 guys all being Eastern European! Serbian wing Andrija Bukumirovic currently leads the team in scoring at 20 points a game. They play Florida State tomorrow in their only game against a power conference school.

Wisconsin is playing at 7 PM central tonight against Southern Illinois Edwardsville - should be an easy win, but the game is on Big Ten Network for those interested. As mentioned here previously, Wisconsin features numerous pale faces (Winter, Rapp, Rodhe, etc) although their best player is black guard John Blackwell.

Penn is playing St Joe's right now and they are yet another team starting 5 Whites. They are led by guard/wing Ethan Roberts, who is averaging over 20 points a game so far this season. The Ivy League champion is usually a competitive tournament team, so it would be great to see Penn win it. To those unaware, former Iowa coach Fran Mccaffery now coaches the Quakers. It was still sad he got let go at Iowa, but I think he can have success at Penn.

Purdue is the prime example currently starting 3 whites and most of the bench being white as well and currently ranked 2nd in the country and undefeated so far

Tonight top 25 teams square off with Kentucky facing Michigan State. We’ve already discussed the Wildcats this year since they have a few interesting White players. I don’t think we’ve mentioned the Trojans in any detail.

This year their top 2 scorers are White athletes. Senior Jaxon Kohler (another of those vanishing Utah born talents) leads the team with 14.3 ppg and 13.3 rpg. He’s less of a surprise breakout than the #2 man Carson Cooper. The senior center and Michigan native is averaging 12 ppg, 5 RPG and a block. Big improvement from his previous career high of 5 ppg.

If this one is starting now on ESPN.

Thanks for mentioning this. Michigan State usually has a few Whites in the rotation but it is a little unusual to see them both scoring over 10 points a game. Hauser was the most recent star White player for Michigan State.

Gonzaga won by 72 points over Southern Utah last night and they play 3 Whites in the rotation, which is bad for Gonzaga historically but better than some of their recent teams. Their best White player is big man Braden Huff, who averages near 15 points and 5 rebounds on 62% shooting. He is instant offense whenever Gonzaga plays. New to the starting lineup as of last game is Spanish freshman phenom Mario Saint-Supery. The young point guard is averaging about 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds so far this year. Expect these averages to increase as he further grows into his role. He originally started the season on the bench, but is too talented to not start in my opinion. Steele Venters is a piece off of the bench, although him having consecutive seasons missed due to injury limited his ceiling. Venters was orginally a top transfer from Eastern Washington in 2023; however, he is just playing for Gonzaga now, so he is sure to have some rust. Young wing Davis Fogle gets some minutes off of the bench although it has mostly been in garbage time so far. Fogle, a true freshman, is stuck behind a 5th year player, a 6th year player, and a player who will be 26 before the end of the season....great work NCAA!

Good caste matchup on FS1 Illinois vs Alabama!

Andrej Stojakovic just threw down a thunderous jam!!

UConn vs Arizona was on before this! I’m enjoying the Blue Bloods battling it out early in the season!

Go Illinois Fightin Slavs!

i never thought i’d see the day when Brad Underwood coached a White team, but that day has arrived! Illinois had 7 different White athletes see significant playing time in the first half against all-Black Bama.

in the first half, the Illini never had fewer than 3 of our guys on the court, and they had 4 on the floor for the majority of the half. 5 of the gym rats have scored already, as well. what a development!

here’s hoping they get the win (and give the Black Tide whitemares after they lost to the Boilermakers their last game).

Hoping they can tighten up on Defense in the 2nd half. Bama’s upsiders are playing well.
