It seems to me that white TB recruits over 5'11" end up as FB's and those shorter than 5'9" won't get any offers from Div IA.

Yeah you can pretty much eliminate any of the RBs shorter than 5'10 from the list as they will be given no shot whatsoever from playing at the Division 1 level. Unless that is they start hitting up the local tanning salon immediately.

The stats listed for these guys are most likely from last year. The adverage junior in HS is around 16-17 years old. These guys still have a growth spurt coming to add an inch or two and fill out their frames.

Sam McGuffie from what I understand is the best player on this list & probably will have the best shot at playing D1 at the Rb position.... Kid is a freak, has a myspace page with him doing all kinds of crazy stuff...Jumps over a truck cab, runs up a wall & then does a back flip...His vertical jump is reported anywhere from 41 to 46 inches!!!...His 40 as a junior was about a 4.4 & claims his fastest was a 4.33 last season....Supposedly, the rumor is he's actually running his 40's in the high 4.2's now!!!...AWESOME!!!...

& to top it off...This kid is incredibly cocky!...Which is good, he's gonna go to college & EXPECT to carry the ball!!...

From what I hear he's 190lbs right now & thinks he'll be about 200-205lbs for his freshman yr in college...He said he plans on being an All-American his freshman year!!...

Article about Austin Deck

By Bill Hicks
BroncoCountry Recruiting Reporter
Posted May 30, 2007

And some foolishly thought Jerome Bettis had retired from football. What actually happened is he has disguised himself as a running back from Meridian, Idaho named Austin Deck; whose lingering hope is to eventually get an offer from his childhood favorite team just up the road... (*FREE CONTENT*)

Austin Deck, (RB Meridian, ID), is waiting patiently for an offer from Boise State, the team of his allegiance ever since the granite gridder was knee high.

"I am very, very interested in Boise State," Deck said. "I visit their website everyday and I read about the team everyday in the newspaper." Deck has been to the stadium, dressed in blue and orange and is counting down the days in the hopes of stepping onto that blue turf and mowing down conference foes.

"They would have to be my top choice right now," said the power runner from Meridian. Deck and his crew notched a state title in 2005 and are looking to hang another state banner this season.

While the Broncos might be better know for playing the shell game offensivelyâ€â€￾see: Fiesta Bowl, RE: Oklahomaâ€â€￾Deck is confident he can literally live up to his name and bring some Big-10 style hardnosed football to Boise.

"I'm a physical runner up the middle and I love to block," said Deck. While most feature running backs are reluctantly converted to fullback upon arrival in college, Deck is actually looking forward to following in the footsteps of players like Bettis, Craig Heyward, or even more recent backs like Brian Leonard of Rutgers last season.

A true football player, Deck has made the all state football team in each of his first three seasons in high school, has been on the 1,600-pound lifting club at Meridian since his freshman year and has posted 1,000 yards seasons in each of those three years.

Nevertheless, the 5' 11" 220 fire hydrant is not simply a bowling ball that picks up the 7-10 split with each carry. "I haven't dropped a pass, in a game, in years" Deck added. The senior eyes a possibly career in medicine, if not a career sending would-be tacklers to the trainer's room.

Despite all his athletic and physical accomplishments, Deck's most impressive comes off the field where he carries a 3.8 GPA, which is all part of the hard-working package he presents.

"I never get outworked, I make sure of that," Deck said. "I'm one of our team leaders, but I'm not that vocal. I let my work ethic do my talking."

Boise State might have a lay-up in hand, but they can't get careless or lazy with Deck. Colorado, Washington and Oregon State have also shown heavy interest and loyalty to a team can only carry a recruit so far. Still, one gets the impression that the powerful back might not need too much convincing from the Big Blue.

You missed about 30 or 40 other white running backs that are listed on rivals. I think the trend is changing for the better, and that more and more whites will play running back in the near future. There are also maybe 10 that aren't exactly white and definitly not black. I think we should root for them as well as long as they're not black or should we leave this point up for debate.

If the guys didn't have pictures, I didn't list em. I saw a few non-blacks, but I'm surely not going to list the dune coons in the "White RB" thread. If I missed 30 or 40 guys, why not post the list? Take initative.Edited by: White Mike

Dune Coon, Rag Head, Sand N!ggers, Dirka Dirka's. Ever since 9/11, I have no respect for Middle Easterners in general, but that's another thread.

sure is, but i don't think that not many of these 10 players in question qualify for that.

I was just on rivals again and it seems that their are more white and non black running back prospects than ever before. Like I stated before I beleive that this is a very good sign of the times, and I firmly beleive that Brian Leonard is but the 1st of many white running backs that will get an oppurtunity to play at the college and pro level. We can debate this point, but in my humble opinion the times are changing for the better of all non black running backs.

These guys will be forced to walk on and be a scout team biatch for their college careers just like so many other white RBs than go from the high school level to D1 football. As long as the perception out there by WHITE football coaches that blacks are better ball carriers the current fixture will never change. If McGuffie wins a Heisman as a RB then maybe some people's minds will change. Brian Leonard blockinbg for Ray Rice did absolutly nothing to change the caste system. Sorry to be a pessimist but that's just the way it is; people(coaches) don't think outside the box(stereotypes) and therefore the always black RB will be the norm.

I've got another blatant example of racism from Scout.com. This white high schooler appears to have all the tools to become a HB at the division one level. Scout.com even gives him strong praise for athleticism. However he is only listed as a FB. I guarantee if he were black he would be listed as an ATH or RB. How many black Scout.com FBs run a 4.5 40 yard? Probably about none.

Kellen Theriot
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 225 40: 4.5
Position: FB, QB, MLB
Year:Class of 2008
High School:Episcopal HS
(Bellaire, TX)

2008 Scout.com HS Football Rankings (full list):
Pos: FBPos Rank: NRPos Rating:

Scout.com Player Evaluation:
STRENGTHS
Breakaway Speed
Change-of-Direction
Instincts

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Cutback Ability
Theriot is athletic and boy can he run. He has great speed for a 225 pounder. Theriot shows good quickness, excellent agility and footwork and he can change direction like a 170 pound scat back. You just don't see to many prospects his size move the way he does. He has power too. Theriot has breakaway speed and is a big play guy.

Biography:
junior season he threw for over 1,400 yards and 12 touchdowns, and rushed for another 750 and 8 scores.

Theriot, 6-2 and 225 pounds, plays quarterback and tight end in high school. He could project at a number of different positions at the next level like fullback, tight end and linebacker.

And regarding Rivals:

How are Brandon Beachum and Jermie Calhoun ranked ahead of McGuffie by Rivals when they run 4.62 in the 40 yard? (Calhoun according to his Scout.com time) Neither's H.S stats are as good as McGuffie and their measurables are nowhere near McGuffie, who is the king of his class in that department. McGuffie's 8.7 yards per carry isn't the best in his class but is still around the average of the Running backs ranked ahead of him. McGuffie also plays in the toughest conference in Texas.

Speaking of big and slow RBs, Every year we find a Tony Hunt type NFL prospect who if he were white would absolutely be made a FB. Scout and Rivals are the biggest enablers of the caste system IMO b/c they are the level where it begins. Theriot has much more athletic ability than Tony Hunt, but will never get a chance to be a featured RB at any of the top division one schools.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Jared Rains has committed to Cinncinnati. It's unclear whether he'll be switched to another position though...

Cincy will probably convert him to defense. That's what they did to Bobby Carpenter's younger brother Jon who was a standout RB in high school. Hopefully they won't but with Cincy you never know. Anyways congrats to the guy and hopefully he'll be given a chance at RB.
