Cincinnati Bengals General Thread

Good landing spot indeed! Should resurrect his career in Cincy.

Bengals sign Mike Gesicki. He was phased out of the Dolphins offense in '22 then was invisible with the atrocious Patriots offense in '23. Good landing spot for him, has a good chance of thriving with Burrow throwing him the ball. Seems like he's been around a long time but Gesicki is still just 28, prime years for a TE.
Guy is a ridiculous athlete too

The Bengals re-sign Trenton Irwin to a one year $2 million contract. Hopefully he'll remain their fourth receiver with Charlie Jones replacing Tyler Boyd in the slot. This article predicts Jones will start. With Mike Gesicki their new tight end, Joe Burrow and a likely 4/5 o-line and their three White stars on defense returning, the Bengals will again be a team to root for.

Well let's just say that many of us here will be watching the Bengals alot more than the Steelers. Outside of Watt they are
becoming a team to root against for casting aside our players. Happy with the Bengals and Joe Burrow can get these guys
the ball.

TJ needs to get out of there, the Steelers don’t deserve him. He would be great in Cincinnati!

There were some rumors last season about the Crawfords trading Watt, the idea being to see what kind of haul they could get for him before he started to decline. Fortunately it hasn't happened, yet, but given the direction the Rooney Plantation is rapidly going demographically it can't be ruled out.

At any rate the AFC North will provide as big a contrast as can be found within the strict confines of the Caste System this season, as Cincy with 10 or so White starters and the only White QB will be squaring off against three of the blackest teams in the league.

Looks like the Bengals gulped the Caste kool-aid big time this draft. Apparently Mims has the knuckle-dragging arm length the NFL is in love with now when it comes to tackles as everything about him yells out "bust."

Bengals' Amarius Mims responds to Nick Saban's comments during NFL draft

Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick Amarius Mims had his fair share of critics during the 2024 NFL draft before the team made him the 18th overall selection.

Nick Saban was a big one of those.

Appearing on ABC’s draft coverage, Saban had this to say about Mims after the Bengals made the pick, according to 247Sports’ Mike Rodak: “This guy’s got all the tools — he’s got great size, he’s got great power. … But it makes you wonder, how did the guy only start 8 [games?] Like, in the SEC championship game, he played only the first 15 plays of the game and then he’s out. Takes himself out. I don’t know what he injured, what he hurt, whatever. But you’ve got to be a little bit more consistent in your performance if you’re going to be a great player and a starter in the National Football League.”

Saban went on to question whether Mims developed the habits to play against guys who are up to his level of competition after playing at a small high school.

The sharp criticism of Mims isn’t exactly uncommon, mostly because Mims had trouble staying on the field at Georgia. Given the quality of his tape when he was on the field, had he played more snaps, he might not have lasted until 18th overall.

Dat simian armed upside though! Even caste whore Saban sees a future bust.

So saban knows he is a bust, but whoever wrote this article seems to think if he had a work ethic he would have been chosen even sooner ?

What a stupid world.

Mental gymnastics of what is wrong and right.. Getting harder and harder by the day in NFL and Amerika 2.0.

Disappointed the Whitest team in AFC North dumbed down their draft class.

To be fair, that statement is probably accurate. He actually IS a good player when he bothers to play. He's quick and strong, has all of the physical qualities necessary. But methinks that it would take a miracle to straighten out his head. And since that is unlikely to happen he will be front and center on the bust watch. But hey, at least he's not Brian Bosworth, Mike Mamula or any of those guys! Now they were the worst busts in the history of humanity according to the "experts."

Charlie Jones injured his leg at practice today. It looks serious, but I hope it just looks worse than it is.

Non-contact leg injuries are usually serious but fingers crossed that like Justin Watson's injury last week, Charlie's injury isn't as bad as it looked:

Three days after his injury, this is the best I can find on Charlie Jones. The team's head coach said this:

After the game, Zac Taylor provided updates on both — and it was good news on both fronts. On Jones, Taylor revealed one of his top kick returners avoided a major issue: “He’ll be week-to-week. He banged knees with one of the DBs on that play. He’ll be kind of week-to-week with that.”

Fun fact: Sam Hubbard leads all defensive ends in tackles since entering the league in 2018, with 357.

The instant the Bengals drafted this future bust the media annointed him the Bengals' third receiver this season, replacing the departed Tyler Boyd. Not Charlie Jones or Trenton Irwin or even Andrei Iosivas, but the "intriguing" rookie with all the alleged athleticism and upside. At any rate, Jones stands a good chance of becoming the third receiver as the season progresses. Iosivasis is an Hawaiian who went to Princeton and is fairly White looking, even more so than Puka Nacua.

The Athletic’s Paul Dehner believes it’s a “long shot” rookie WR Jermaine Burton will be involved in the Bengals offense this season.
Burton has shown a total lack of professionalism and seriousness during the offseason, according to Dehner. Andrei Iosivas, meanwhile, has impressed teammates and coaches alike and profiles as the clear No. 3 receiver behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Joe Burrow has said Burton does not follow the team’s playbook and has hinted the rookie is unreliable as a pass catcher. The Bengals, per Dehner, “will hope [Burton] progresses and matures as the year progresses. Maybe he does. Maybe that opens opportunities. It sounds far more likely a redshirt year lies ahead than anything else for the intriguing rookie.”

Sad news:

Bengals EDGE Sam Hubbard retired after seven NFL seasons. Hubbard’s injury-marred career ends after just seven years in Cincinnati. He suffered a major knee injury in mid-December and missed the remainder of the 2024 season before calling it quits in a social media post on Wednesday. Hubbard, 29, ends his NFL career with 38.5 sacks and 236 solo tackles. His play fell off in 2024, as Hubbard managed just ten QB hurries over 14 games, along with two sacks. He was an explosive EDGE rusher when healthy and helped power the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance in 2022.

Cool to see Hubbard never leave the state of Ohio his entire sports career. Was always a fan of his. Should have racked up another 10 or so sack’s without injuries.

Some more bad news.. Cincy has granted Trey Hendrickson the right to seek a trade. Bengals to lose both their star White DEs in back to back days sucks. Their Defense was really bad last year. So yeah purge Whitey.

Meanwhile they resigned WR Higgins(classic boom/bust. Good when he’s healthy, but when is he healthy?) 20+ mil for him is crazy! But then again 160lb WRs named Tutu are getting 10 mil a year after recording 400yds and 2TDs lol.

Bengals all coal draft last year really helped LOL.

Really stinks to see one of the rare White bookend tandems getting eliminated in the league. Hubbard was a solid all around DE that made plays both in the run and passing game. Hendrickson is the best pass rusher in the league. At least the underrated Logan Wilson is still around.

The Bengals also cut starting guard Alex Cappa, who was picked up by the Raiders. Hubbard retired, Hendricksen likely leaving, Cappa cut, Charlie Jones an afterthought in the passing game, Trenton Irwin purged last season.

I've chronicled for a while now that I could see the Bengals rapidly blackening. The coal black drafting and total lack of White depth on defense other than Joe Bachie, and now just two White starters on the o-line. Cincy has quickly become Joe Burrow, Logan Wilson and possibly Mike Gesicki if they keep him, even though he was underused last season. Maybe they'll surprise us with their draft next month but my guess is they'll keep heading toward their historical norm of being a solid Caste team with the last few seasons being an aberration. Mike Brown has always been one of the worst owners in the league, the bad seed offspring of one of the league's all-time greats.
