Still can't get my head around the fact that german athletics doesn't have a quality 200 guy ,,,,although Kevin Kranz might begin to change that ....still really believe all German sprinters need to compete regularly outside of the " heimat" ...in order to gain confidence ,,,also note the young Dutch sprinter who bronzed in the euros over 60 ( whose name escapes me ) ...this guy has a big upside , still very raw and lean ...was great see a good white Dutch male sprinter ....who has attitude and has been touted through his teens here in Europe ,,, he has real potential as a senior and I believe he is involved with daphne schippers group ,,,which is good..

The Germans don't have any quality male sprinters over any distance really (Reus couldn't cut the pressure in international meets). Even their ladies don't look as good this year

But he hasn't run faster than Quinn's 10.01 100m since 2013. That says quite a lot about both of them.
Quinn is just breaking through as a university runner. Lemaitre has been a professional sprinter for years.

Hey lads ....have to agree with all of the above ...,...I have no doubt Devon Quinn will compete as a pro ....it will be interesting to see , who he ! Wants coaching him ...or if he continues to base himself at Illinois ....and if he gets some local real sponsorship ....have to say I feel Quinn has something special about him ..,a real fortitude and understanding of what it is to be breaking people's colored tinted glasses ......and Devon Quinn has still gone under the radar nationally because of boling .....if Quinn has the ability to run 10.01 in heated competition ...from my perspective he has the wheels to run well into the 9.9s In one race at a track meet this summer ! .....his leg turnover is as quick as anything in the world .....the rest Can be worked on ....strength ,,,speedendurance .....and the first 25 meters .....but he has phenomenal leg speed turnover ground contact .....and having worked on his first 25 meters ...he could do some serious damage over 60 meters next winter ., .

Lemaitre is a tall sprinter and lacked explosive power (double whammy). He always seemed to be playing catch up in the 100 as he'd get blown out at the start. Yes, Quinn is just starting out, but that his pb in the 60 is slower than Lemaitre's is intriguing in terms of thinking of Quinn's potential. I don't know how it all plays out for college guys graduating that are excellent white sprinters. Teeters kind of just disappeared.

I wonder how old RCSman spends his time these days now that he no longer policing this site. He probably takes his poodle for long walks, or works on his Renault while he is thinking about what could have been.

It's still sad about Lematire. He was my favorite sprinter for many years but lack of a change of scenery, another coach, good health, etc, I will always wonder what else he could have accomplished. He won
2 medals at the olympics and world champs in the 200 meters. He will be remembered in history because of this but yet we will always wonder how much better he could have been! I really hope we can see a few more chances for him to shine but injuries have destroyed his career. Hope to still see him run this summer sometime.

I don’t think RCSMAN ever fully understood the caste system anyways. He would cheer for Vicaut and other blacks too. I think he was just a ornery Frenchman who happened to find this site and decided to argue with anyone who gave criticism to Lemaitre and his coach. It’s a shame as all of us saw the same issues with Lemaitre...but it is what it is and he gave us some great times.

Lemaitre is going in the 200 today. Will be interesting to see what he has left.

The information will have circulated all day yesterday. The French sprinter Christophe LEMAITRE will be present at the International Meeting of Sotteville-lès-Rouen on Tuesday, July 16th. The presence of the latter will be exceptional since it will run for the first time on the track of the stadium Jean Adret. On Tuesday, July 16th, the athlete will line up at the start of the 200m. A distance of which he is the current holder of the record of France since 2011 (19''80). Given LEMAITRE's lap times, the 20''57 meeting record, held since 2014 by Mosito LEHATA, seems to be in real danger.

Lemaitre is entered in both the 100m and 200m at this meet.
The competition in the 200m is very mediocre. He should be able to actually win the race if he isn't too tired from running the 100m.
The competition in the 100m is better, but still he should be able to finish in the top 3.

My predictions were close.
Lemaitre came 4th in the 100m in 10.28, and won the 200m in 20.46.
He's a hopeless case. He will never get back to the top level.

I'm actually pleased with the times. I know they are not elite but I guarantee you that his master coach ) is telling him to take it very slowly with all of the injuries he has suffered. I think he should be down in the 10.15 range next time out and hopefully 20.30's in the deuce. He still has 2 months to get in shape for Doha. It's possible even if it's highly unlikely. If anyone can shock us it's this guy with those huge strides. He needs to stay healthy and get in top elite sprinting shape. Call me an optomist!

So if you won the state lottery for a few million would you sneer at it because it's not hundreds of millions? Talk about being a Negative Nancy... Like WL, I actually see some hope in the 200 as he is now getting close to the fringes of world class level and might have the A standard now for the world championships. In 2016 he looked dead in the water too, early in the season , give him time he may shock and amaze us...

Time to retire this thread already ...6th place 20.90 ...my god

It's sad but probably true. Unless he reinvents himself which I doubt, it's time to move on to the next chapter of life. So either he will go off quietly into the night or he will say to
himself I need one last chance. If that is the case then he needs to change everything. I predict he will just hang up his spikes. Thank for the memories Christophe.

I don't get this one as he ran 20.4X 2 weeks ago, this was his stronger event where he has won the title X years running, less some injury years. I know if he can enter a club level meet and he improves his time by 6/100ths of a second he would get the A standard but off of this is he even capable of doing that........

The difference is that the race a few weeks ago, was just one race.
At the French Championships he had to run in the heats yesterday (21.23), the semi-finals this morning (20.69), and the finals this evening (20.90).
It's already well established that Lemaitre has little endurance. Plus having not run much before these championships didn't help.
3 races in 2 days was just too much for him.

I don't get why they would have 2 races in one day in the 200 as I don't recall any major meets doing this, that said Lemaitre SHOULD be able to float to finals with the weak competition that France has in the 200. It seems like if he doesn't have a conditioning base Lemaitre has the stamina of a pack a day smoker.....

They had the same schedule for the 200m at the US finals today.
Semi-finals early afternoon. Final, last event of the day.
What I don't get, is why Lemaitre has such poor stamina. He is always breathing very heavily after a race, more so than any of the other sprinters.
Anyway, all these questions about Lemaitre, will seemingly never be answered.

I found this on a French website:
"Lemaitre cracked in the final after the race, he confessed to being tired."

Also found this:
The bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics could not do better than sixth in the final of the 200m (20''90) . . . his entourage and the staff of the France team are worried."
(Hah! I've been worried about Lemaitre for about 5 years.)

And this:
"It was difficult Sunday to recognize Christophe Lemaitre in the final of the 200 m. Poor start, very dull and without sharp turn, then a straight line where we saw him gradually being overtaken by many opponents. To the point that an injury was believed for a moment. But no. The bronze medalist from Rio on the half-lap of the track rallied the finish well, to a 6th place unworthy of his status and in the very poor time of 20''90. Far from the expected minimum for the Doha Worlds (20''35), and that it was supposed to aim this weekend in the Forez. But the reality of a season started very late because of repeated injuries for a year that has suddenly become a bad memory for Lemaitre."

It sounds like a few posters in this section must be moonlighting as French reporters.

All jokes aside he may have under developed lungs or maybe he does smoke cigarettes. I remember when I was 16 I smoked for about a year and I smoked up to 6 a day and my running stamina went from elite for a gym class amount of guys to middle of the pack until I bothered to quit.
