Chris Mullin is a finalist for the Hall of Fame. What do you think of his chances?

Although his career was marred by injuries, for a period of five years or so in the early 90's, he was one of the top ten players in the league. He is also a two time gold medal winner and a member of the original Dream Team, with Bird, Jordan magic, etc....
 
Yeah, it's a shame injuries slowed him down otherwise he'd be a cinch pick. As it is I think he wasstillgood enough to make it. It's a close call and it won't surprise me if he doesn't get in right away, maybe not at all.

He was a lot of fun to watch when he played for St. Johns.
 
Mullin was the only top level white scorer between Bird and the Euro invasion. I also liked his crewcut, classic white look instead of copying the shaved bald heads of the brutha's. Kudo's to him.
 
Deadly jump-shot, excellent ball handler, flawless on defense and made loads of steals. Liked him on Golden State, only Warrior I remember since Rick Barry
 
Its been a long time since I have heard his name, but I remember him playing. I pretty much quit watching the NBA when Bird retired though.

Tom Chambers deserves some recognition in that department as well.


An early European star from the same era who could score was Drazen Petrovic, a sharpshooter from Croatia, who averaged 20.6 ppg in '91-'92 and 22.3 in '92-'93 with the Nets before dying in a car crash after the '93 season.
 
some people say that Heaven will be different for everyone, in that it will be an eternity of whatever makes you truly happy. if that's the case, then with my love of basketball there will be an eternal one-on-one match-up between Drazen Petrovic and Air Jordan in my heavenly driveway.

Drazen was the only player i ever watched talk trash to Jordan, like Jordan did to everyone else, and then go out and take it to him. Petrovic was amazing! he was fearless in attacking the rim, he could score off the dribble or from deep, and he was virtually unguardable because he moved so well without the ball, too.

he was just entering his prime as an NBA player when he was killed in a car crash on the Autobahn, but that guy was a GREAT player, and if he hadn't died untimely would no doubt have been among the greatest players ever in the NBA.

his freshman year averaged 16.6 points per game (also setting the
school freshman record for points scored). In his subsequent three
years for the REDMEN</font>, he would be named
Big East Player of the Year
3 times, named to the All-America team three times, play for the
gold medal-winning 1984 Olympic team, receive the 1985 Wooden
Award ,USBWA College Player of the Year and lead his team to the
1985 Final Four. To this day, he still holds the school record for
most career points scored.

I was still a kid when Petrovic died, but I already cheered for white players. I remember feeling like I had been hit in the stomach when I found out he died. He was just starting to really show what he could do. Also, there where several other whites between Bird and the new era that played well. John Stockton was awesome. Mark Price, Rik Smits, Jeff Hornacek, Scott Skiles, etc... I hope Mullin makes the HOF.
 
Another great player who played at the same time as Bird -- Hall of Famer Kevin McHale.

The crop this year looks thin so Mullin will make the hall. He is the type of guy that is similar to a Ryne Sandberg type you know he will get in eventually. Anyway I don't put much stock in the BB hall of fame their standards are porous at best....

I believe they factor in college and olympic experience as well, which should help Mullin's chances. Truly an unselfish player who made everyone else around him better by constantly moving without the ball to create open shots.

I totally agree but do think that Mullin will indeed get in this year. Mullin won't be waiting around long to get in, that's for sure.
 
Results came in from 2007 HOF and Mullin was not elected. Phil Jackson and Roy Williams did get in.

Exactly!..and white as a ghost to go with that classic crewcut. No mistaking him for a brutha.
 
Chris Mullin was one of my favorite players. He had great shot selection and was a pin-point passer. He definitely deserves to be in the HOF!

C Darwin, I didn't know Kenny Loggins (cutting down the lane in that pic) was Mullin's team mate for the REDMEN? LOL

Pretty good.:) The Kenny Loggins clone is Bill Wennington who had a fairly lengthy career in the NBA. That team also had Mark Jackson and Walter Berry (great college player, but a bust in the pros) but Mullin was main guy.

Thanks PG2! I remember all those guys from the 1980s (during my schoolboy years). I haven't heard some of those names in ages.

BTW...my Favorite NBA players....Larry Bird (best ever), Bob Pettit, Pistol Pete, Tom Chambers & the afforementioned Chris Mullin!Edited by: DixieDestroyer
 
If you blame the injuries for the end of Mullin's career, gotta also blame
the booze for not reaching his potential sooner.
 
Mullin did have a drinking problem very early in his career, but was able to turn things around while still in his prime. If he does not get into the HOF it will be because of injuries, not alcohol.
 
Congratulations to Chris Mullin...should've been in the HOF years ago.
 
I was able to watch Mullin live in Salt Lake City during the tournament.I really liked the way he floated around looking for an opening, then the ball's in his hands, nice soft jumper, nothing but net. He made it look easy. Basketball as an art.

Gotta have a guy like him in HOF.
