Stud running back from Kentucky rushed for over 3000 yards and over 10 yards a carry 6ft2in 225 lbs. This young man has been offered by Illinios , Troy and Western Kentucky. I beleive he will get more offers and it seems he could be the next great white hope at running back if given the chance to play the position in college. Does not look 225lbs, could possibly be the next Toby Gerhart. I hope he stays healthy and absolutely tears it up next year.Edited by: White Power

Nice find White.

I hope this guy gets offered by sme more schools than the three. Maybe he could go to Ilinois. We don't get the Illini much here where I live, does anybody know if Ron Zook would give Channing a chance?

Here is his rivals profile.

This guy has great stats, good find WP!- I'll try to find some video footage of him tomorrow to post in this thread, so we can scout his talents. That is, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

I don't know if I like this move. Lane Kiffin had to promise him something if he picked the Vols. I hope the don't make him a damn full back.

Could the recent success of Gerhart open the door to player like Channing Fugate; even with the Vols...he has some serious upside! This dude is too good to simply be a battering ram/blocking dummy!

Whose Tennessee's coach now? "Lame Kitten" (as Dixie calls him) was a caste whore, but left for USC right? Channing's ceiling would be that of a Gerhart or Beanie Wells type back...Let's hope he accomplishes a ton!

Fugate is still playing as his caste clown role of battering ram for Tennessee but something strange happened in the Montana game. He returned a kickoff 44 yards. Not bad for a " slow " , " stiff" tightly wound 250 pound white boy. If given the chance this kid could easily be the next Peyton Hillis.

When this was shown on his Sunday morning TV show, Tennessee coach Derek Dooley remarked "this is how Channing gained those 3000 yards in high school." Another time Dooley speculated that "maybe we should put Channing in back," meaning at tailback.

Revealing quote, sport historian. That is probably as far as it will ever go. I'm convinced that a lot of these coaches know their White backs are often superior to their diversibacks but don't have the nards to do what is right.

Yeah, I don't want to downgrade 3,000 yds., but I can remember back in the late 80's early 90's when I would be watching college games and the commentators would say about a white safety or linebacker, "this guy had 6 or 7,000 yds. rushing in high school and what a great safety he's become. Back then when I was younger and my eyes were still kind of closed, and before I had my own son, we kind of laughed it off.

Now, I look back and wonder how good some of these white RB's could have been if not for the caste system. Remember, this was right after the Craig James era, when white RB's were really starting to disappear.

Many of these White RB's turned into safetys and LB's were in the midwest, like Michigan St., Purdue, Indiana, etc., maybe some of my midwestern friends remember some of these guys.

I can't remember their names, but maybe someone out there does. Would like to know who they were, if anyone remembers!

I understand your point but the 3,052 yards 36 tds was just in his junior season (I think he is the 2nd player to crack 3k rushing in a season for the state of Tennessee, I believe he holds the record now because the last guy had 3008) , his senior year he had 1332 rushing and 17 tds, his sophomore year 1727 and 30 tds. So that is 6,000+ yards rushing and 83 tds, with probably at least another 1,000 receiving, I know he had around 500 his sophomore year.

"won the starting job midway through last season and still hasn’t carried the ball in a game. Vols coach Derek Dooley raved about Fugate’s maturity. “What I was surprised at was he wasn’t coming to me and saying, ‘I want the ball.’…I sat there and purposely didn’t give him the ball just to see if he would ever come and he didn’t. Then, I decided we should probably give him the ball.” Plays for Fugate are being designed"

He should ask for the freaking ball

btw the newest position to switch great White tailbacks to is slot receiver, that is if they aren't big enough for fullback. Ryan Swope would make a great tailback but they have him in the slot.

I remember reading those comments from Dooley. Just another reason why I don't believe a thing will be done to provide him with carries, unless a bunch of blacks go down.

Sorry, I didn't realize that was 3,000 yds. in one season. That's outstanding!

I was talking to a friend the other day about the new position for white tailbacks being receiver, he noticed what many of us already know, whites seem to have great hands, typically!
