I think Smith is a live dog, he has distinct height and reach advantages and has some pop in his punches, unlike Rocky Fielding who was a sitting duck for PEDnelo's power shots.

This fight could play out similar to Kovalev vs Alvarez but Smith is much fresher than Kovalev who clearly was on the downside when he met Alvarez.

PS Smith's brother was steamrolled a few years ago by Alvarez in Dallas in I think Alavarez's last fight at 154 pounds.

Yeah, his brother Liam. Canelo was just too strong at 154 lbs at that point. I did not realize Liam and Callum were brothers until this week. Liam with the premature grey hair. Yeah, Smith if he has stamina and uses his length he will be competitive.

No knockdowns suffered by Smith but Canelo is just better and a bad matchup.

Canelo is a once in a generation fighter like when Duran beat middleweights. He is relaxed in the ring, his technique is on point, power when he wants it, stamina for days, subtle footwork as well as head movement. He walked down and dominated a 168 lbs fighter and looked happy doing it. GGG has to get him down to 160 lbs for it to be fair. Tonight that was a tour de force at the elite level.

Well it wasn't Rocky Fielding but how does a guy a half foot taller let stubby Canelo walk in (literally) on him and fight inside. The only time he showed any movement was when he was clock watching and trying to go the distance in the last round.

Every time I saw Smith before he fought smarter than this and had more fire, but then again he didn't have PEDnelo in front of him.

It makes GGG's stock rise after watching Alvarez walk down other opponents. I wonder who Alvarez will fight next as Smith was the lineal champion, Plant has the boxing skills but does he have the pop to make Alvarez think before attacking. I could say the same for Saunders, I thought Smith was the best of the bunch and he looked like Rocky Fielding+ in the ring tonight.

WIR, I hear, but you have to give credit to Canelo. At 509, just terrorizing a 604 man.! I get it. Canelo punches were on point. But Smith should have unleashed more after round 7. But I saw the fight, Canelo's were perfect and he did not fear anything coming from Smith. the better man won.

I'd like to give credit to Canelo, but all he really did was consistently walk Smith into the ropes and then throw combos. Smith looked very mediocre in this fight and his punches had about half the speed and ferocity of Canelo's. Canelo has developed a very thick muscular look with a really thick neck from all that "horse meat". Perhaps Plant can give him a better run for his money than Smith.

It still amazes me he ever failed a PED test as no top stars ever fail tests and his tainted meat story was the classic my dog ate my homework excuse.

Yes it's amazing he walked down the 6'3" Brit but if you don't shoot a jab or lean on Alvarez you make his job much easier.

If team Canelo have full confidence in him then he will take on the best of 168 and try and unify the division. I have a feeling his ventures at 175+ will be limited to pot shooting vulnerable champions or name fighters at this division.

I would like to see Canelo-GGG III, but as a GGG fan, I worry that Golovkin is just too old now. In their first two fights GGG gave just as much as he got, something no one else who's fought Canelo since has been able to do. Canelo has great confidence, but is fully aware that a fight with G means he will absorb the kind of damage he's not gotten since their previous fights. Still, is it just too late now for GGG, and might he suffer a bad beating this time?

It could be, GGG against Steve Rolls and his last Polish opponent looked as good as he did in his probable prime when he cleaned out the division and was legitimately ducked by Cotto so that Cotto could earn a higher purse and lose his lineal title to Canelo(this sound familiar). Even Canelo didn't want a part of GGG until he couldn't make 154 in a way that could allow to fight to the top of his abilities.

GGG showed signs of aging when he couldn't put away or badly damage Jacobs and then had his two all time classic fights with Alvarez, it could be that Jacobs and Alvarez are a level above his previous opponents but
Derevyanchenko would have to be too and he seems to be level below those two as he has fallen short at the top of the 160 pound divison.

The Canelo at 168 lbs I saw last week beats GGG and every fighter at 160 who jumps to 168 lbs. Canelo at 168 is a wreaking ball that appears unbeatable. However, if GGG is able to get Canelo down to 160 lbs he has a chance. The money will be huge for the trilogy, I say Canelo goes back to 160 lbs with him as the favorite. GGG will not be a walkover like last week with Smith.
