The latest I heard from this Iowa Hawkeye forum (although not 100% full proof):
Latest on Wegher
is that Wegher's gf is pregnant and soon due.

If that is the case, Brandon will have to figure out how much time he'll have for his future child- if he is committed to keep playing on the team- and if his gf's or his family can financially afford to help raise the kid. Don't be surprised if he gets red-shirted this year if the team and Brandon can't figure out a time management solution. Maybe his gf could drop out of school- after she gives birth- and work while her or Brandon's parents help raise the baby and she brings home a pay check with the hope that BW will get an NFL contract in a few years.

The one good thing that can come from this is that Wegher will be taking a leave of absence after a sterling Orange Bowl performance (he won't be forgotten too quickly). By the time Brandon is an upperclassmen if he redshirts- both of his biggest competition at RB (Hampton and Robinson) may be gone, opening up a legit chance for him to get 2/3s of the carries as a red shirt junior or senior! Wegher's gf is also a student athlete at Iowa, so little Wegher may have a bright future in athletics as well! Best of luck to Brandon, his gf and their baby!Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Well, I hate to hear that Brandon succumbed to temptation and committed fornication. No matter how often it is done these days, it isn't right. I hope he does right by his girlfriend and child. I wish him the best on being a father and in regards to football.

I don't think this is such a big deal these days. I mean how many of the ghetto Black players have a love child or two or three...

. This must be drama over marriage or his involvement in the babies life. By the way Rebel your first statement sounded like a Clarence Carter song....

His cover of "Patches" is a good one. That's about the only song he did that I care for.

This might just turn out to be a good thing in the long run. It will help Brandon to mature very quickly. I'm sure his parents aren't crazy about him becoming a daddy this early. He will have to grow up very fast and this can only help him as a football player. Taking a year off will also help his body to continue to mature. He will be the man for his final three years at Iowa. I can't wait. He might even make a run at the Heisman Award. He has the talent!

Come on Wegher you're smarter than that. USE PROTECTION!! Get you woman on the pill or if she doesn't like it (it messes with her period or whatever) use the nuvaring. It works like a charm. Outcomes like this are usually reserved for the inner city players on the football team.

Wegher should just not support the kids and abandon the girl and the child and then when he becomes a big NFL star then he can give that girl alot of money and it will be Okay. Hey it worked for Karl Malone.

It's official: Wegher Leaving Team

Updated Aug 26, 2010 6:54 PM ET
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP)

Iowa isn't expecting running back Brandon Wegher to return any time soon.

Wegher, who rushed for 641 yards and eight touchdowns last season, left the team after two days of fall camp to deal with undisclosed personal issues.

Coach Kirk Ferentz said Thursday that Wegher hasn't indicated he'll return in the near future.

The ninth-ranked Hawkeyes are deep at running back, though. Promising sophomores Adam Robinson and Jewel Hampton will likely share carries this season.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully, not returning "anytime soon" will simply be a red-shirt year off. The latest rumour is that Wehger's gf is also experiencing pregnancy complications according to a poster- who says he's familiar with Brandon- on a message board. I think he needs to prioritize, focus on his relationship with his ill? gf and hopefully future son and then when he sorts out his time management- he can come back focused next year if he keeps his grades up. Prospective white RBs need Wegher to battle the caste system- to help open up better opportunities for them, but he has to put himself and his family first.

I enjoy your posts also TwentyTwo! Just realized I said "hopefully his future "son"", it could also be a daughter. I think that was just my selfishness of wanting little Wegher to be a dominant RB in the future. I just hope the gf carries the baby to term and the gf and child stay healthy.

Well, not sure if this story is confirmed true or not, but perhaps Wegher can still play at least some of the season.
Just because he fathered a child in college doesn't mean he has to sit out so long. Yes, not the best timing for such a thing, but we need all the White children we can produce now.
Lack of White population is one reason why we are in such rapid decline nowadays.
So let's support Wegher with encouragement. As someone mentioned, perhaps this can be a blessing for Wegher and his family in the long run.
Will mature him quicker and help him prioritize his life. School, football and his family will take precedence.
Hispanics, blacks and asians would never deem a new born baby as some sort of 'bad thing'.
Yes, Wegher should have waited but when life gives you lemons you have to make lemonade.
Don't give up on football just yet Wegher! A few years in the NFL would help with investments and funding for your family's future.

Didn't Eric Crouch have a baby while at NU?

Disappointing from the caste football perspective, but it is nice to see that Brandon has his priorities straight. Much better to put family first, than to be another Antonio Cromartie.

No, looks like he will be red-shirting this year. I also heard a couple rumours from people supposedly familiar with Wegher, or the team, that due to lots of life stress- he has lost interest in football and he may be contemplating quitting all together.

Then there was one post on a message board as well- that Brandon also got frustrated with Ferentz that Jewel Hampton was immediately favoured to get back to the top of the depth chart again. Hampton is talented and averaged 5.1 YPC as a freshman, but Wegher would have been at 4.3 or so- without the 70 yard run unfairly called back- and probably higher than that yet without his rib injury and the slightly lesser blocking than in 2008 (when Shonn Greene won the Doak award and Hampton was the #2 back).

If the last case is true, Wegher will have to mentally toughen up. Things aren't easy for a white RB, but if you want a crack at an NFL paycheck in the future you have to keep fighting the system without getting too pissed or losing focus.

But, by my estimate- the most credible rumour for his absence is his gf's pregnancy complications

Also should point out, that I think Wegher and Hampton have more potential than Adam Robinson- who is a tough as nails player, but less athletic.

I'd probably take Wegher as the back with the most "upside", though Hampton "might" have outperformed Wegher in camp before his LOA.
Wegher is bigger than Hampton I believe and has more power, burst and X-Y agility- where Hampton has almost as much X-Z agility as McGuffie and great instincts. Guess I'll have to recheck to make sure. I think both Wegher and Hampton have good hands for a back for catching the ball, but it's been a while since I watched Hampton.

I am from their home area and I know his girl friend as we went to school together (They are highschool sweethearts for you all that didn't know this). Here is what is said to be going on...... He got his girl friend, that is also an athlete at Iowa, pregnant last spring. Her parents were very upset bc she would lose her scholarships that they made her have an abortion. This caused a huge fight between the two and their families, beings that he is a catholic and they dont believe in abortion. They then broke up for the summer. During this time he was with a chic that goes to UNI. Him and his girl friend then got back together and they found out they were pregnant again and that he had also gotten the UNI girl pregnant as well. This is where his "issues" came into play. It is now said that the UNI girl has miscarried? As for his girl friend last heard she is still pregnant and is not any where near due but her family is not happy. This is what is said to be going on by the people who are close to them. Just a lil update for ya all!

Wow, what a strange, twisting story. If I read that right, Brandon Wegher has impregnated the same woman twice, as well as another woman once? Thanks for the info, morningsidechic21, and welcome to Caste Football.

Although we appreciate anyone willing to keep us informed of our favorite athletes, I don't think we can call this an "update". At the moment, yours is just a drive-by post. We have no way to know if this information is in any way accurate. If anything resembling "official confirmation" of this appears in your local media in the near future, please provide us a link to it. Although this is the kind of private matter that usually doesn't make the newspaper, it's also the kind of thing that will appear in human interest stories several months later when the media gets around to wondering "Whatever happened to Player X?".

If that story is true I guess it is safe to say Wegher is Catholic enough not to believe in condoms but apparently ignores the sex before marriage part....it happens but 2 chicks?

I hope he sorts his personal life out and comes back to play even better next year. He is a very talented football player and it would be wise to stick with football and finish up his degree to better support his future child. I know it can be hard to juggle but it is doable, you are just left with little free time.
