I just saw that Bob Uecker passed away today. He lived to 90.

This from the Milwaukee Brewers organization:

Uecker was a natural self-effacing deadpan comedian and utilized that skill to make a lot of money. For a number of years he was an almost ubiquitous presence in commercials and the media in general. The only other baseball player who was basically a scrub I can think of who had a similar post-MLB career was Joe Garagiola. RIP

I got a kick of him bragging about there being a statue of him outside the stadium but they had made a mistake and had the statue batting left handed.

I remember him from these commercials and the show with the probable British puff it amazed me that a lifetime journeyman player got these commercial opportunities until you saw him in the commercials. Aside from a trained actor he's probably the best pitchman I have ever seen..

He will be missed...

No interracial couples, no doofus white guy, no queers. Wow America was certainly different back then

Some humor for your day, one of great commercials from Amerika 1.0. Uecker volunteers to pinch hit towards the end and is ignored. Many great cameos.

Off topic a bit but John Goodman is in the commercial from 1983, not as a star doing a cameo but as an extra with a speaking part. Looking at Goodman's film bio, 1983 was the first year he appeared in movies, and they were minor roles. I remember him as the football coach in Revenge of the Nerds which came out in '84 but that was also a minor role. It wasn't until later in the 1980s that he became a well-known actor. He was great in The Big Lebowski, along with Jeff Bridges.

Funny commercial. I love the beautiful blonde at the end. Can't have that anymore in America 2.0. They'd have a fat, brown tranny instead.
