Is Cam Newton an elite quarterback? I don't see it. The New England game is the first time I watched him this year. What I saw was a big guy with a big arm, but for every precise pass there is an errant pass with no touch. Also, he almost always used his legs to convert third downs. That should be rare, not the norm. I saw Cam convert a first down on a nice run, and instead of getting the huddle and calling the next play, Cam made a bunch of gestures to the crowd and the sideline, then slowly walked back to the huddle - he was the last man in the huddle. No sense of urgency, no professionalism, no leadership. And then I learned about his benevolent tradition of taking everybody's touchdown ball and making a big show of picking out a kid in the crowd to give them the ball. What a great guy, giving away someone else's touchdown ball. His focus on self-glorification is anathema to good leadership, and it will be his demise, along with his simplistic, physical approach to the position. So they've won 7 games this year - they could easily end up 8-8 or 9-7 out of the playoffs.
