A lot of Black players get really hyped up by the media, but end up being major flops.

A recent case that comes to my mind is the Holland full-back/winger Royston Drenthe. He was given a prominent spot in Hollands' U-21 team, where had 24 caps. But since then, Drenthe has made only 1 appearance for the Dutch senior team, and this was during a friendly when the coaches experiment with different players. By comparison, Arjen Robben never represented Holland at the youth level, but instead rose from a small-town club to be his country's best player and among the world elites.

Drenthe moved to Real Madrid in 2007 for some €14 million - hyped up as a new Roberto Carlos . He failed to get regular playing time, as Robben and Sneijder were on the wings and the Brazilian Marcelo was the permanent left-back. So Drenthe was exiled on loan to some backwater Spanish club Hercules and currently with England's Everton; he's still technically a Real Madrid player. His attitude was terrible: he refused to train for at the club he was exiled to, claiming that he wasn't paid enough! His coach said about him, "What Drenthe did showed an enormous lack of respect and professionalism. He had no respect for his team-mates and the fans. I left Hercules without demanding anything and no-one said anything."

There's another Great Black Hype from Holland, Eljero Elia, who has failed to get regular playing time at his new club Juventus in a €9 million move, and his played only 45 minutes so far this season. He got horrible reviews for his debut against Catania early on in the season, which is why he's warming the bench.

4 minutes: Elia can't control the long ball and Catania defender does well to unsettle the Dutchman whose touch is too heavy...

12 minutes: Big acceleration from Elia on the left side. He burns his marker, but not the second Catania defender who’d stayed behind to cover.

45 minutes: Simone Pepe comes on for a largely disappointing Elia.

62 minutes: Very good penetration by Pepe, who does what Elia couldn’t do for 45 minutes. Gets to the byline and crosses it towards the middle...

Yet another Black flop from Holland was Ryan Babel, who made a €14 move to Liverpool in 2007, where he ended up being a bench-warmer. He earned only 31 starts and 60 substitutions in 3.5 seasons at Liverpool, with Torres and Kuyt ahead of him in the pecking order. He only made 12 goals and 5 assists in his 90 games. So last season, he was shipped off to a small German club Hoffenheim. Babel is a typical "athlete", who has nothing but pace: he's a striker who can't score and can't dribble. Unsurprisingly, he was another one with an immature attitude.

Then there's France's striker Djibril Cisse, a journeyman who's been on 6 different teams. He moved to Liverpool for the 2004-05 season for €17 million. Though he's a striker, he has a horrendous touch, can't head the ball, can't dribble, and is a clownish finisher.He spent a lot of his time at at the club on the bench, even though Liverpool at the time had a mediocre strike force in Peter Crouch and washed-up Morientes. Cisse was shipped out after only 2 seasons with Liverpool. He went back to England with Sunderland, where he again flopped. Recently, he's moved to the Roman club Lazio, where he's failed to make an impact. Just how does this guy stay attract so much interest from teams? The only places where he's been successful is a couple seasons in the French league and with Greece's Panathinaikos - hardly top-level football.

it might be too early to add lukaku to this list, but the last match he played for chelsea was against liverpool in carling cup (a match i watched)
he was so horrible that he has been criticized a lot, and now he plays for the reserve squad
in that match he also almost broke the leg of a liverpool player

Lukaku to me looks like the new Bafetimbi Gomis - a stereotypical Black striker with "pace" and "power" but without a semblance of skill or intelligence. It's a worrying sign that he's been warming the bench because it suggests the manager doesn't have confidence in his abilities. The games he has played in, mostly the Cup games, he has played very poorly. His scoring rate for Belgium is awful, and suggests that he was part of the reason why they didn't qualify for Euro 2012. Lukaku succeeded in a bad league like Belgium, but he would be destroyed by top defenders.

The transfer fee of €25 million for Lukaku is absolutely insane! That much money is paid for an established star, not for a teenager. Chelsea could have bought a quality player for that much. Can you believe that Luis Suarez, superior to Lukaku in every possible way, cost Liverpool about the same amount?

During the Euro qualifiers, Lukaku was given the chance to live up to the hype, and he failed. He did nothing much for the team: all he did was win a header that led to a goal for Van Buyten during a set piece in the Turkey game. He played in 6 games and 315 minutes total, and he scored 0 goals. Belgium's qualifiers were disastrous: 4-4 vs Austria, 1-1 vs Azerbaijan, and a 1-1 draw and 2-3 loss to Turkey. But Jelle Vossen played in 3 of the qualifiers and got 2 goals. So the Belgian coach sticking with Lukaku really back-fired.

This is from the player ratings in the 3-1 loss to Germany for Lukaku, when he up against Mats Hummels:
Lukaku replaced Ogunjimi at half-time and worked harder for possession, but tried to do too much on his own and was almost always foiled by Hummels. Did manage to get the better of his marker on one occasion, but was denied by Neuer.

And here's the review for Germany's great young defender Mats Hummels in the Germany-Belgium, who destroyed the Black mercenaries that Belgium threw at him. Against quality defence, stereotypical Black strikers such as Lukaku stand no chance.

Mats Hummels: Marked Ogunjimi out of the game, and frustrated Lukaku to no end as the Chelsea man was forced to run away from the box to get any contact with the ball. In 50-50 attempts, he won an incredible 31 of 35, and never committed a foul. Had one mistake as he was dispossessed from behind in the 68th minute.

it was a very known fact in france that he is a bad finisher
liverpool buying him isn't surprising because premier league clubs seem to love this kind of players, but why did lazio buy him?
he was more expansive than forlan for example

Cisse ran away to the Greek league to Panathinaikos. He played well there and scored a lot of goals. So I guess that teams from the big European leagues were fooled into thinking that Cisse would be able to contribute to them based on his successes with Panathinaikos.

he was always mentionned as one of the few muslim players at the time (he is not arab though, but black mixed with white)
then he was bought by real madrid (another muslim for real madrid)
and everybody suddenly realised that he was bad

Though Real Madrid did not technically sign Julien Faubert, the decision to sign Faubert on loan from West Ham United was bizarre to say the least.
Real Madrid are known to sign quality players regardless of their high transfer fees, but to sign Faubert, who never had the quality to play for Madrid, was ridiculous. The Frenchman failed to make any positive impression for Real Madrid, as was expected by many, and they obviously did not want to sign him on a permanent basis.
Faubert then returned to West Ham United, and though he did have a decent 2009-10 season, he had a poor 2010-11 season, where he was not a regular for many games. He had also infuriated many of the supporters with his poor behavior, and he was expected to leave the relegated club. However, he is still at West Ham playing in the Championship.
Faubert is no more than a lower-table Premiership player at the maximum, and Madrid's weird decision to sign him on loan meant that they had to pay wages for a footballer who was never good enough to wear the shirt.

Inter bought the the negro striker David Suazo of Honduras (do they even play football there?) for €13 million euros in 2007. He was awful for them: only 8 goals in 35 games. He was officially with Inter for 4 years, but spent much of the time on loan to small clubs.

In 2007, English club Tottenham bought Darren Bent for €25 million. He only got 24 goals in some 80 games for them. After two seasons, Tottenham sold him for half that amount.

The half-caste bastard from France David N'Gog reflects the failure of French youth development. He was brought up by Paris St-Germain's youth team, but they got rid of him and sent him to Liverpool for only €2 million. He only made 1 goal in 18 games for PSG. With Liverpool, he only got 16 goals in 86 appearances, most of them off of the bench. Liverpool then sent him to Bolton for €5 million. But with Bolton last season, which was relegated, he made only 4 goals in 40 games, he started most of these games.

England negro striker "Carlton Cole" is a Chelsea reject. He was brought up in their youth team, but was sold in 2006 to West Ham. This guy is a clown - a lot of jokes are made about like with Heskey. He's only scored 40 goals in some 170 games with West Ham before they were relegated in 2011. A funny comment at a West Ham fans' site says that he has the "First touch of a rapist, lazy, can't finish, can't hold the ball up, can't head the ball, can't strike a ball cleanly, has no pace, and he's a sulker...the cunt aint even worth 2 bob."

by the time i started watching football, there were 2 blacks who were over-hyped: peter luccin and stephane dalmat

here they are on the cover on the magazines i used to read back then:

both played in both marseille and paris saint germain, which is very unusual

dalmat was bought by paris saint germain for more than 10 million euros
he never lived up to the hype and went from big club to another big club: internazionale, tottenham
once he was exposed as a bad player, he started playing in smaller clubs in spain and france
his palmares: he won 2 "coupe de la ligue" and was nominated multiple times for the "ballon de plomb", same than the golden ball but for the worst player in the world
of course, as if one dalmat wasn't enough, dalmat has 2 brothers who are also professional football players (i remember wilfried dalmat at nantes)

luccin followed a similar path , but he played in spain most of his "career"

they are the biggest flops in the history of french soccer

this is why italy has no world class striker right now
i have always been OK (and happy ) with south american talented players coming to the italian or spanish league
but it goes way overboard now
suazo is not even south american, and he's not talented
he takes a spot that a young italian player could take, so he destroys italian football while south american stars like recoba or ronaldo back then helped the italian players to improve because they made the italian league more competitive

They have to be truly exceptional to be signed by a European club. A black just has to score one goal in a minor league to be signed in a top league.

Thank you for documenting this fraud Frederic. Maybe 10 years from now, more managers and fans will find this thread and realize that we were right. Football is just not a sport for most blacks. Sprinting in track and field and basketball are the sports they concentrate on.

Yep. Here's an article today explaining how after failing to succeed in Europe, he's now flopping in the "mighty" MLS. He's been dropped from the Philadelphia Union starting lineup and only has 3 goals in 18 matches this year. :yuck:

Hackworth berated Adu in the media for an approach he believes is too "self-centered" on the field, an accusation that has plagued the midfielder for years.

Adu has played in Portugal, France and Greece but never found a happy home in Europe, prompting his return to MLS. That has not exactly gone to plan either, with Adu failing to ignite the Union into genuine contenders. As captain, he also couldn't get the U.S. past the Olympic qualifying round as the American squad missed out on the Games in London.

As things stand, he has never played in a World Cup, has made only fleeting appearances for the national team and is now struggling to even get a starting role in the domestic league.

I never mentioned Adu because I just assumed everyone already knew about him. It's like saying the sky is blue. Everyone knows Adu was one of the biggest flops in history.

The U.S. media treated him like a God when he was 14 years old. Nike even gave him a $1 million dollar contract at FOURTEEN YEARS OLD!! Before he even played his first professional game!

Speaking of more flops, Maurice Edu, the guy who is famous for completely missing the ball, recently transferred to Stoke City of the Premier League. The guy has absolutely no first touch - ball always bounces 7 feet away - and he has no basic dribbling skills.
