AR-15 Purchase and Modifications.

Next week I will purchase a Colt LE6940 AR-15. I used to operate one while in the Marine Corps. I will modify it by adding an optic (Aimpoint PRO) vertical grip and light to it. Does any one have one or expertise in using one or operating one.

Looking for insight and quality modifications.

Marine Corp early 80s used both the A1 and A2, loved the A2 it was a virgin when I qualled on the Rock and upped my score from abysmal to slightly above average. But since I was a weapons custodian I was submerged in CLP day after day and I swore upon a stack of Green Monsters that I would never touch another military style rifle ever again. Till our idiot politicians reminded me why we have the 2A. So anyway the Aimpoint Pro is nice, but a warning only buy from a reputable dealer, because I know a guy who got a great deal off of Fleabay and it was a Chinese knockoff that lasted one magazine, what a deal. Since you are in Cali enjoy that bullet button and those 10 round mags which are no doubt twice as expensive as P-Mags. One suggestion if you are not a recent GWOT era vet find some training in carbine use.

Wile, your post brought back a lot of memories. At Quantico VA. my qual day was a double nightmare. I barely qualed in the both the rifle and 9mm. Needless to say I was a double pizza boxer. I vowed to leave the Corps as a double expert, which I did in 94. I still remember the distinct smell of CLP (cleaner, lubricant and protecterant).Funny, experienced shooters and law enforcement say the best lubricant is Mobile One 10-30w synthetic oil.

I am picking it up tmrw. I had a gun safe installed yesterday. Yeah looking forward to sitting up my LE6940 rifle. P-mags, Aimpoint PRO, Surefire HD light and short Tango Down vertical grip. Regarding the bitch ass bullet button (thank F'n Dems) and 10 round magazines. I was able to skirt those laws legally. Don't ask how.

A boot and a Zero I see. I was barely pizza box thruout my time till the last year in the Corp, but for some reason while on the Rock I pulled my head out of my backside and got Sharpshooter with both a new A2 and the .45. At Pendelton I probably set records in marksmanship futility

Years later I learned to let the reset of the trigger set in, then begin my trigger pull. Also after years I got the breathing concept down. For some reason I never understood it at the beginning. I remember the embarrassment of being a dual pizza boxer, barely qualifying butter bar Lt. There were alot of expert and sharp shooters in my TBS class.

Yep, tho I don't know why it has to be 10w30. Use it in your car too. I've used it for years and only rarely change my oil. Great stuff. I just recently switched to Pennzoil synthetic though, because I saw a test that said it is even better than Mobil 1, but i don't really know. i think they r about the same.
