Andrzej Fonfara appears to be a good up-and-coming light heavyweight.

He had an impressive stoppage win last night over a negro, Phil Williams.

Andrzej does have a couple of early losses, but he's been improving and is still only age 24.

Here is his website:

boxing is having a real renaissance of sorts in Poland, which i am very happy about. Lots of fighters coming out now, quite a few should dominate for the years to come.

Poland dont forget couldnt compete until the 90s. And they have done very well over the past few years.
Golota was a top fighter, but IMO, got paid off vs negros....

Golota was a buffoon and I believe if he had a good head on his shoulders he would have been champ. He actually should have won the heavyweight title twice, he beat both Byrd and Ruiz but was robbed on the scorecards. I just don't have an answer to his self destructive behavior.

Yep, robbed by the crooked judges and crooked house referee Randy Neumann (who somehow always got assigned to dog him - and why didn't his team ever object to always getting that a-hole in there harassing him?), and he played both those fights perfectly straight with zero monkey business, no head butts, no low blows, no nuthin, and they robbed him anyway

Golota is planning a comeback.

I hope Golota is not planning a comeback. What is the point? He is not even top 50 at this point.

Maybe one decent payday but he is putting his health in jeopardy.

Yes, I can but not that well. Basically he's saying he feels good and he's returning to the ring. He says he needs boxing in his life but no mention of a future opponent.

yup, pretty much, he only mentions that his first opponent won't be a big name, nor will it be a serious fight. more of a warm up match, since he states he can ill-afford a loss.

Andrzej Fonfara will fight Byron Mitchell next.

from fightnews:

http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/9-fonfara-to-fight-byron-mitchell-107218

#9 WBO ranked light heavyweight Andrew ”Polish Prince” Fonfara (20-2, 11 KOs), living since 2006 in the Windy City, will fight former two-time super middleweight world champion Byron Mitchell (29-9, 22 KOs) for IBO-USBO title on March 16 in UIC Pavilion in Chicago. “We already have a verbal agreement with Mitchell,” said Fonfara’s brother and manager, Marek Fonfara. Fonfara’s trainer Sam Colonna added “Andrew is only 24 years old with great talent and needs to fight experienced fighters. Byron is the guy. He knows all the tricks in the book, was a world champion and I’m sure he’ll be able give Fonfara all he can handle, but we are very confident about the outcome.”

I watched his last fight. He brings his own rooting section with him all right. Now why do Polish people have to be such wise guys when it comes to spelling? The guy's name is Andre, so what's with the z and the j? Is that really necessary?

Werewolf - That's because the fellow's name isn't "Andre", but Andrzej. :icon_wink: The video below provides the proper pronunciation (at 0:07 - 0:08; the rest is obviously redundant):

So, what would happen if You found Yourself in, let's say, Llanhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch (that's in North Wales, in case You hadn't guessed...) and some geezer casually says "Mae'n debyg bod hi'n mynd i glaw pnawn 'ma"...

Enuff orthografi?

Hi, R - If you watch his last fight on Youtube his cheering section kept screaming his full name all night. It sounded like Andre to me. The way I figure it some of those central European languages don't have enough vowels, whereas Polynesian languages have too many vowels. I think they oughta work out some sort of trade agreement. I don't even wanna trouble my pretty little head over Welsh and Basque. By the way, old Basque legend (or so I've read) - the Devil speaks all languages, but ---- is his native tongue. Can you guess?

Werewolf - According to Basque tradition, Basque is the only language that the Devil is unable to learn.

If the Devil has a native tongue, I'd wager that he has two: Yiddish and Hebrew... :kev:

Werewolf, I'm Polish and Andrzej is Andrew. That's just the way it's spelled and it's in no way Andre.

Hebrew maybe. Yiddish is just a corruption of old high German. I think it's kind of cute actually.

I read that the legend said Basque was the Devil's native language. Your version is an interesting variation. Basque is one of those languages called isolates, usually considered to have no living languages that are related.

Here's his last fight. Doesn't it sound like they are yelling "Andre"?

Yes, Andrzej in Polish sounds similar to Andre in English. The only difference is the the "rz" in the middle or they would be saying Andre. Anyway, the Polish language has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years so I'm sure the negro name Andre was stolen from it.

:dodgy:

And that's not even the worst of it. Polish names seem to change depending upon their position in a sentence. Adamek sometimes changes to Adamka, and who knows what else. That's ridiculous. You guys are totally out of control when it comes to spelling and grammar! Can't you switch your national language to something more sensible like English or Esperanto?

haha, yeah! Adamek could be (depending on the verb and adjective) Adamka, Adamkowi, Adamkiem etc.

so it's pretty complicated indeed!
