The Haitian was hitting Fonfara low and the ref didn't even bother to say keep em up let alone warn him or deduct a point.
Garza has done big bouts in the past and has been the same way. I recall him not caring when Mike Tyson was fouling Golota. But Stevenson was fouling repeatedly and wasn't even warned about a possible points deduction? Fonfara should have immediately fouled back or done a Riddick Bowe Shakesperian acting job and rolled around on his back to get points deducted.

I agree. I don't know why boxers and their corners are so docile. The house ref at least asked him if he was OK, so at least he could have taken a little time to highlight the fact that he was hit low.

So Garza was the ref in the Golota - Tyson travesty, one of the, if not the, most bizarre of all of Golota's bizarre fights. I had been looking forward to that fight for a long time. I thought it would be a war. Golota just wanted to go home but he was so strong that he was accidentally starting to win round two. Did Tyson foul him? I can't remember. I'll see if it's on Youtube...

Yes it is, Oct 20, 2000. I'm going to watch it again now. I've not seen it for 13 1/2 years.

Guess Golota was hurt bad by that knockdown at the very end of round one. It was a very hard right that caught him. Too bad. It could have been a war as Tyson tired and Golota could have come on strong and knocked him out. Golota's worst weakness was the way he started off fights cold and so vulnerable. I didn't see any Tyson fouls or Garza misconduct, though. Lou Duva, by the way, turns 92 this week.

You're right there was "only" one headbutt. I assumed Tyson was hitting on the break, which he was a master of in his prime in the late 80's. Around this time Tyson was on the verge of a nervous breakdown during every fight as he tried to break Botha's arm and should have been dq'ed against Orlin Norris and Lou Saverese. But he was rather passive in this fight....

Golota was out of boxing for almost three years after the tyson fight. But then he came back - and as many times as he did disappoint us - people forget that he was the real heavyweight champion, twice, twice beating champions Byrd and Ruiz, fairly and squarely with no monkey business whatsoever, and he beat them despite the always crooked and incompetent referee Randy Neuman who was always assigned to harrass Golota - and why didn't Golota's team ever protest Neuman being assigned to all his fights!? Neumann is a money launderer for the boxing mobsters. here's his business:

Anyway, Golota beat both Ruiz and Byrd despite all of Neumann's shenanigans, like failing to notice all the times Byrd's hands touched the floor after getting punched - knockdowns - but then the crooked judges (redundancy there) simply robbed him.

But this has gone off badly on a tangent, huh? - should be on an Andrew Golota thread and not a Fonfara thread. Maybe someone can move it...

Neumann (who a member of the so-called "chosen" race) is one of the worst refs ever. He let Lewis get away with a lot of fouling in the Vitali-Lewis fight.

Here Lewis holds Vitali's head with his left and opens a cut on Vitali's eye with his right:

I agree. I had Golota winning both the Ruiz and Byrd fights by a couple of points. After his embarrassing fights with Bowe he should have been champion but was screwed over in favor of the little Byrd and slow and boring Ruiz.

Nah, that wasn't the SOB Neumann, it was different crook referee. Once I carefully watched the video of that fight and cataloged the precise times in each round that Lewis rubbed the lacing of his glove and his steel wool hair into Vitali's face to open up the cut and make it worse, over and over and over. Vitali had never even been cut before in his entire kick boxing or boxing career. Maybe that post of mine with all the details is still knocking around someplace.

But wow that is a good clear clip of Lewis holding and hitting - and the crook referee, Lou Moret, of course didn't see a single thing.

from fightnews.com:

Fonfara tops Ngumbu

Local light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara (26-3, 15 KOs) won a hard fought ten round unanimous decision over Doudou Ngumbu (33-6, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Fonfara staggered Ngumbu in round five, but the “Polish Princeâ€￾ let him off the hook. Scores were 98-92, 97-93, 97-93.

I saw the fight. Fonfara won no doubt, but he is frustrating to watch. He has an excellent stinging jab, but refuses to use more it to get inside. He has an excellent left hook to the body but refuses to use it more. It was the left hooks that soften up his opponent. He doesn't make adjustments quick enough. Example, several times he attempted to land overhand rights, always missed by 6 inches. He should have aimed 6 inches lower. He never did. He doesn't have much upper body or head movement. He was getting tagged left and right by a light hitting opponent. Fonfara better make improvements over the next several months to be a real player in the 175 lbs. I say 86 his current trainer now!

Fonfara is a decent light heavyweight, but he's not a destroyer like Kovalev and Beterbiev.

Ngumbu is a spoiler who is nearly impossible to look good against. He's very awkward and has never been knocked down in his career.

I agree with Westside that Fonfara needs to use his left hook to the body more. It's a good one and if he works on it and uses it more it could be a real difference maker down the road.

Fonfara looking very good through 9 rounds.

If it goes to the cards, will the judges be fair?

Great performance by Fonfara, he made Chavez Jr quit in his corner. :clap2:

I guess the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree. His father towards the end of his career became a bitch and quit in the corner. F him.

Was so busy I forgot about this fight. Ha! Ha! Great performance indeed! Chavez Jr. was supposed to be a big payday for so many boxers out there; he was supposed to be using Fonfara as a tune up/stepping stone to a mega fight.

I guess he found out when he fights a man his own size he's not as much of a man.

Froch was looking to fight Chavez Jr for a big pay day for his final fight. That probably will not happen now. Froch should probably fight Ward again provided the fight is in England. No more hometown crooks.
