All Star game

I wonder what the Western Conference starting five, and
reserves, will look like this year. Who will the predominantly
white fan base vote for? Will they vote for the two white
players who have undoubtedly earned a starting spot, Dirk and
Nash? It'll be interesting.

How about this for a relatively realistic, race-neutral starting
five:

G Steve Nash
G Ray Allen
F Kevin Garnett
F Dirk Nowitzki
C Amare Stoudemire

I'm guessing that Kobe Bryant will start, unfortunately. Yuck.

How about reserves? Will the coaches vote for Ginobili, Peja,
Murphy, Pau? Hmm....

My starting five could be:

G Nash
G Ginobili
F Kirilenko
F Nowitzki
C Miller

I think that's a pretty balanced team, with a playmaker, two
athletes/ defenders in Manu and AK47, an awesome scorer,
and a solid big man- not just a bunch of scorers who don't do
much else.

As for reserves, I'd have to think about that a little more.
Hinrich, Murphy, Pau, and Peja come to mind.

Pathetic. They only got one right, in my opinion, with Garnett.
But totally predictable. Sports fans are sheep. I'll echo what
Don said in another thread: anybody who says, "Oh, well
everybody wants to see great white athletes, white fans would
love it" is delusional. Maybe in race car driving and X Games,
but not basketball (or football or boxing or track or....) Why
didn't these white fans, who supposedly would love to see a
white revival in sports, vote for Nash and Dirk? They should
have been shoe-ins, especially if fans really want to see white
basketball (and football and boxing and track and...) players.
Hopefully the coaches will be smarter and we'll have a handful
of white reserves like we had last year. Nash, Dirk, Murphy,
Ginobili, Gasol, all those guys are deserving. But I won't be
surprised if only Nash and Dirk get on the team though.

Vince Carter managed to get another starting spot, despite
being traded, and admitting that he didn't always try as hard he
should have. Apparently fans don't care about anything other
than his vertical jump/ dunking (which are quite exceptional, but
far less important than many other things.) Grant Hill is a good
story, I'm happy for him. And the first of what will be ten to
fifteen (or more) All Star appearances for Lebron James. All of
us basketball fans are going to have to endure endless Lebron
hype for years and years to come....

i will take labron over melo and kobe any day. kobe is an arrogant punk and mello is a future damon stoutomire. lebron seems to be somewhat intellegent and a decent leader. however i also believe he has to much hype on him. look at how badly he preformed during the olympics.

We just have to face the fact that the overwhelming majority of sports
fans today are different from us. They clearly prefer black athletes,
and many of them don't like any white athletes at all. That's right;
they would be happy if all whites disappeared from pro sports and the
games became completely black. I coach youth sports and I see which
athletes the kids love. I have not met a youngster yet who loves
Nowitski or Nash or any other white player. They all love Kobe,
McGrady, Vince Carter and Lebron. Even my own 15 year old son, while he
is becoming educated about how much more fundamentally sound most of
the white players are, is more excited by the high-slamming, trash
talking black players.

Now that Steve Nash made it to the All-Star game only as a reserve and not a starter,I think that really hurts his chances at winning the league MVP.He won't be looked at as a top dog if he can't even start the All-Star game.But then again there must have been MVP's in the past who were not All-Star game starters.The difference here is that Steve Nash is white.

I would love if Bryant couldn't play and Nash replaced
him. I'm sure the other players would prefer that-
even if they wouldn't admit it- because Nash will get
everybody involved. But Bryant will probably play for
his own ego's sake (and perhaps as an attempt to
woo back the endorsements he lost due to his
"sexual shenanigans.") He'll play with crutches if he
has to.

And hopefully those who vote for league MVP will
understand how dumb and sheep-like most fans
are, and thusly won't be influenced by their
superficial enthusiasm for flashy players like Bryant,

Speaking of the All Star Game.In the slam dunk contest,
we will have a white guy.For the 2nd year in a row,Chris
Anderson of the Charlotte Hornets will be in it.He can
really jump.I doubt he will win because they will now
allow it.I'm still happy that he is in it though because
it disproves the myth.I would love to see him win it.I
remember when Rex Chapman got robbed not once but two
years in a row in the contest.Even Magic Johnson thought
he should have at least made the final two guys.Back then
they had 8 competitors.Now there are only 4.Good luck
to Chris on Saturday night.

Darn right Chris Anderson can jump.Did you see that block he made against the Spurs last night? As far as the slam dunk contest goes,I'll just say that if Chris Anderson could win it last year he can win it this year.

Andersen and Stoudemire are listed at 6-10, and one of the
rookies is listed at 6-9, so that's good. Height can be a
disadvantage as far as the judging goes. They're more
impressed if the player is shorter since he has to jump higher
to get to the rim. That helped Fred Jones last year. The other
rookie is 6-6 and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wins. He
won't even have to be creative; just jump really high and the
judges will be impressed.

What a prima donna Lebron James is quickly becoming.
Apparently he knows that the media is obsessed with him and
is enjoying stringing them along with his indecision about
whether to participate or not.

I agree with Ginobli.As far as the All Star Rookie Game,
tonight Kyle Korver had 21 points.He put on quite a
shooting display.He is a emerging star in the nba.
I hope Anderson can win the dunk tommorow.

The NBA All Star is a joke. Just like all of you have said it is black dominated. I believe it is important to remember that character counts and the character of some of these guys black and white is pathetic.


I would take a good charactered black athlete anyday over a bad charactered white athlete. Even though I would like to see more whites in the NBA All-Star game, it should be based on the talent and character portrayed by the player on the court during the season. Lets face it, character doesn't count anymore at any level of athletics and especially in the NBA. If character counted maybe one or two of the guys that made both the East and West All-Star teams would have made the teams based on character. The NBA is run by these hoodlum players like Iverson, Ben Wallace, and Kobe Bryant.

All-star games in pro sports stink,except maybe baseball,maybe.The NBA all-star game is just a stage for the black man to show-off in.There will be all kinds of windmill dunks,alley-oop dunks,180 degree dunks and any kind of dunks you can think off.It's show time and this is exactly what the black athlete thrives on.The announcers will be going crazy about the great athletisism of the brothers and the white fans will be handing out standing ovations,all the while the black athlete will be tugging at his shirt,yelling and screaming and acting like complete jack-asses.Save yourselves the aggravation and don't watch.

The NBA All Star Game. Wow! What a game it is. Too bad I will be reading a book instead. I would like to do something that helps me be more intelligent, instead of being a fan of complete idiots that are the Caste System all stars. Man! Should Lee-bron(Who gives a flying puke)James play in the all star game even though he has a messed up ankle? Can these guys get any further in the Caste System? I doubt it.
Four guys answering questions on what should be done to kep these guys playing. Of course, the main idea that all 4 ESPN talkingheads mentioned was "monetary compensation." Forget the fact that they are paid more in a year than the average teacher makes in a lifetime. Nevermind the fact that if these guys don't want to play, they won't do it, no matter what the incentive or penalty.
Just hearing these idiots talk about such unimportant and asinine things about a bunch of primadonnas who don't know how to play real basketball is what is the most revolting of all. All I have to say is Steve Nash for NBA MVP!Deo Vindice!

Steve Nash won the skills competition with the fastest
time ever recorded in the contest!Way to go Steve.Kyle
Korver finished 2nd by only 1 point in the 3 point
contest.The Dunk is up next and we will have to root
for Chris Anderson.

I'm not even watching it, but I knew Nash would win. Korver will likely win the 3's in the future, and I think we'll see more white guys getting the dunk contest too. Keep up the good work guys. Not bad for guys who represent only about 20-25% of the game. What is "black domination" again?

Watch for David Lee,a senior at the University of Florida
to come into the nba and win the Slam Dunk Contest next
year.Trust me on this.He won the national high school
slam dunk contest and can do any dunk imaginable! I hope
that little kids will be wearing Lee jerseys after he
wins it next year.He is that good of a dunker.After
watching him,people will say black men can't jump.lol.

I watched most of the skills contests last night with my son.
Unfortunately, the slam-dunk contest proved a real embarrassment for
Chris Andersen. The announcers made it seem worse than it was, but
that's quite predictable. For those of you who didn't see it, on his
first dunk, Andersen kept trying (it took him close to 10 attempts) to
throw himself a pass, which he could catch off the floor and slam. He
kept making bad passes, and when he did touch the ball, he looked
anything but coordinated. Then, during the second round of dunks, he
enlisted teammate J.R. Smith to bounce the ball off the floor, so he
could grab it in the air and slam it. The announcers were already
against him from his ridiculous first round of dunk attempts, and even
though the fact he took even more attempts to do the second dunk was
completely the fault of Smith, who kept bouncing the ball too low for
Andersen to dunk it, the joke was all on Andersen and none of the
"unbiased" announcers mentioned that it was all Smith's fault. All in
all, it was a really humiliating experience.

I agree, Big. He was a laughing stock. During the second
dunk the announcers could not stop laughing. You're right
about their bias though. They complained about Andersen's
passes to Smith during Smith's dunk, but not when Smith was
messing up his dunk. They also mentioned how all the players,
like Allen Iverson, were cracking up about it. He must've been
so embarrassed.

I must also agree that he looked very uncoordinated, even out
of his league, and came nowhere close to showing off his
jumping ability. I have to admit that the winner, Josh Smith, is
an impressive leaper. That kind of ability is uncommon for
white and black athletes alike. I don't think Magic Johnson
is very smart, but he was right about Stoudemire not being able
to "hang" like Smith can. Neither he nor Andersen can jump
like that guy.

The only bright spot was Nash's cool head pass to Stoudemire.
That will be in the "lexicon" of slam dunks for years.

Speaking of the bias against Anderson,they even had
Dr.J/Julius Erving talking bad about him even before
he put up a score.Even if Chris did the best dunk in
the history of the game,he would have got a low score.
It's bad enough when the announcers do it,but the judges,
give me a break.That being said though,Smith deserved
to win over the much hyped A.Stodamire.

How is anderson as a player i haven't seen him play much this year so i don't know much about him. Do you think he has potential to become a good player.
