Since 2006 Virginia Tech has started 5, 4, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 7, 5, 6, 5, 5, 4, 6, 6,, 6, 2 and 7 white athletes. In 2026 the Hokies look to start 7.
James Franklin was fired from PSU last year after a horrible start to the season. Va Tech hired him a month after his firing from PSU. Franklin darkened up the PSU program quite a bit during his tenure. Va Tech has been a consistently black program and was really put on the national radar due to Michael Vick in the 1999 and 2000.
QB Ethan Grunkenmeyer followed Franklin from PSU after performing well as a freshman after Allar was lost of the season.
