Since 2007, Oregon State has started 10, 10, 13, 10, 8, 5, 8, 8, 6, 5, 5, 5 6, 7, 6, 5 and 6 white players (no write up in 2015). In 2026 the Beavers are projected to start 6.
The QB position may or may not be a position battle at the moment. Last year's celebrated transfer portal get at the position did not live up to expectations for the team as well as the media pundits who hyped him up. QB Braden Atkinson transfers over from FCS Mercer where he was prolific as a true freshman. Here are his accolades:
• Saw action at Mercer in 2025, playing in 11 games
• 2025 Jerry Rice Award winner
• Second-Team All-SoCon selection and SoCon Freshman of the Year
• Passed for 3,596 yards and 34 touchdowns. Completed 268-of-406 (66 percent) passes attempted, and was intercepted 11 times
• Averaged 326.9 passing yards per game
• Surpassed 300 yards passing eight times
• Set the Mercer single-game record with 533 passing yards against VMI. Completed 29 passes in 35 attempts and threw for five touchdowns in 62-0 win
• Followed that effort with 426 yards and four touchdowns versus Furman
• Followed the Furman effort with 443 yards at Western Carolina, throwing for three scores
• Opened his collegiate career with 311 yards and one touchdown against Wofford
• Threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns at The Citadel
• Passes for 365 yards and five touchdowns against Samford
• Completed 27 passes for 347 yards and three touchdowns against Princeton
Pretty sure @Carolina Speed brought him to the attention CF last year in one of the weekly game threads. Nice find! Rooting for him to take over or win the position battle outright.
