Since 2006 Notre Dame has started 11, 11, 10, 10, 11, 11, 9, 8, 6, 8, 8, 5, 9, 9, 9, 9, 10, and 9. In 2026 the Irish drop down to 7 with a few key backups.
After a slow start to the season, the Irish write the ship to win 10 straight games and looked ready to make noise in the playoffs, however, they were snubbed by the playoff committee. In 2026 they are again A national title contender with CJ Carr as the trigger man. His accuracy and football IQ remind me of another quarterback, his grandfather coached at Michigan. Backing up CJ are Blake Herbert, Noah Grubbs and Teddy Jarrard so not a black quarterback in sight! Hat tip to Marcus Freeman for that. The big uglies protect protecting CJ Carr have slipped to only three pale faces- Ashton Craig, Sullivan Abasher, and Anthony Knapp. Unfortunately for Knapp, despite playing well as a freshman left tackle and improving his game last year, he could not overcome his short arms and the big upside of Will Black so he moved inside to left guard. The contrast between the mediocre blacks Notre Dame runs out at receiver verse the stud white tight ends is stark. Cooper flanagan and james flanagan (no relation) will be the te’s. On defense only Elijah hughes (90% sure he is white from his pics) and tackling machine Drayk Bowen at lb. FS Luke Talich won’t start but should get around 30-35 snaps a game. Overall despite the drop in starters I view this ND team as an acceptable national championship contender with CJ Carr as qb and enough whites sprinkled in elsewhere
