Since 2005, Northwestern has started 12, 13, 15, 14, 15, 16, 15, 11, 11, 11, 12, 9, 11, 10, 12, 12, 11, 13, 13 and 13 Whites. This year they reduce to 10.

QB Nicco Marchiol has a chance to take the starting QB spot, while overachiever S Robert Fitzgerald returns after a season with the 2nd most tackles in the Big Ten.

Would be a complete snowplow, but Northwestern settles for a black at Center who, you’ve guessed it, has never even snapped the ball before. (No longer the case, the black replaces another lineman so a White center can take snaps.)

It should always be mentioned that Chip Kelly was one of the "innovators" responsible for the dumbing down of the QB position. He along with Urban Meyer and Rich Rodriquez were the late 2000s architects of the destruction of the position. Northwestern going into the portal for a mediocre transfer QB of the magical race is both pathetic but par for the course for Chip Kelly who as done his best to atone for his 2013 Eagles roster.
 
Update: they ended up not going with the black at Center, and have a White who I didn’t see on the previous depth chart at that position. However the black still starts at the expense of OG Dennis Rahouski.

Alex Honig looks to get his starting TE job taken by fellow White Luke Dehnicke.

Still 10 starters.
