2026 Michigan State Spartans

Since 2005, the Spartans have had 7, 5, 7, 10, 10, 10, 12, 8, 9, 8, 8, 10, 11, 11, 10, 11, 11, 7, 4, 5, and 8 white starters. In 2026, they start 7.

Pat Fitzgerald returns from #metoo purgatory to the Big Ten sidelines. The Spartans have been pretty lousy lately and will be hoping for a kickstart.

Alessio Milivojevic took over quarterbacking duties last year from a struggling upsider (who will now start for Northwestern). Fitzgerald’s best coaching move of the offseason was keeping him in place.

Unfortunately, Fitzgerald didn’t make many other shrewd moves. Eli Coenen joins the starting defensive line from Illinois. Murawski and Fraley are also projected o-line starters via transfer portal.

Michigan State historically hasn’t been adverse to recruiting white players from in-state and playing them. Fitzgerald had a fine track record of white athletes at Northwestern. However, the cupboard is currently pretty bare here. Milivojevic’s ascent is a great story, but this isn’t an exciting team.
