Since 2006, the Mountaineers have started 11, 9, 10, 9, 7, 7, 4, 9, 6, 6, 7, 9, 8, 9, 5, 5, 5, 8 and 8 White players. It’s 8 again this year. Last year's team started 2 White receivers but none this year so it's a positive that the overall number stayed the same thanks to an increase on defense from one to four starters who carry lunchpails.

Last year's starting QB Garrett Greene is trying to make the NFL as a WR but was cut by Tampa. The odds of him establishing a role in the NFL at that position are astronomically against him. This year's starting quarterback is Nicco Marchiol, a redshirt junior who has seen spot duty the past three seasons for the Mountaineers, throwing for a total of 742 yards.

Redshirt junior Preston Fox, who was listed as a starter at WR going into the '24 season, is now third string according to OurLads. He had just 131 receiving yards last year and 368 in '23. Logan Ramper is also listed as a third string WR.

Nick Krahe starts at LT and the center is Landen Livingston. The starting left guard is Walter Young Bear, an obvious Indian or part-Indian from Oklahoma, who can pass for White in my eyes but who I'm not including as a starter in deference to the purists here, otherwise the number of White starters would be 9.

Grayson Barnes will start at tight end; he's gained 338 and 422 yards the past two seasons.

Finnish born Edward Vesterinen, now a graduate student, returns to start at defensive tackle. Braden Siders starts at what the program calls Bandit. Reid Carrico is a starting inside linebacker, with Chase Wilson lining up next to him at WLB.

ILB Ben Bogle is the only White on the second team defense.

QB: Nicco Marchiol
LT: Nick Krahe
C: Landen Livingston
TE: Grayson Barnes

DT: Edward Vesterinen
Bandit: Braden Siders
ILB: Reid Carrico
WLB: Chase Wilson

Looking good but is this the first year under Rodriguez? What happened to the previous HC who’s seems to have been relatively fair for a couple years?

Rodriguez is a sleazebag who bolted four months after signing a long term contract with WVU. He quit at the tail end of the '07 season and then refused to coach his team in the '08 Fiesta Bowl after saying he would in his resignation letter. He was widely despised in West Virginia for that move and others and in Western PA also as WVU has a decent following in that part of the state as Morgantown is only 75 miles from Pittsburgh. Surprised they hired him back, apparently they think time heals all wounds.

Listed on 2nd team as a RB Clay Ash (Soph. 5'-9" 194) ; had 4 carries for 23 yards Saturday. Went to IMG Academy

Not sure if he falls in the Evan Hull; Joey Aguilar or Danny Scudero category?
