Featuring 13* White players on the roster in total and 3* White starters, the 2025 Washington Commanders under HC Dan Quinn are another prototypical caste team. The number of White starters has been halved from 2024 as WR Luke McCaffrey and G/T Andrew Wylie were relegated to backup roles while G Sam Cosmi was placed on the reserve/PUP list before the season started. These changes took the offensive line from 4/5ths White down to 2/5ths. The QB room went from 2 White backups to having no White players at all. Sam Hartman, who went viral on social media last year due to his good looks, was signed to the Commanders' practice squad and Jeff Driskel was let go earlier this year. Super Bowl champion TE Zach Ertz is back again as a starter. Remaining viable at the age of 35 is remarkable and his tutelage will certainly be invaluable to the Commanders' young and White TE room. Meanwhile, the defense is completely bereft of White starters and only features two backups, which is typical of a team coached by Quinn. LB Nick Bellore is still a good ole WSTD and at this point will probably never be anything more, as unfortunate as that sounds.

Unsurprisingly, Quinn has relegated McCaffrey to a backup role in favor of the recently acquired Deebo Samuel Sr. McCaffrey is a gifted athlete who hails from an exalted athletic pedigree and boasts an incredible 9.44 RAS. In contrast, the aging and temperamental Samuel posted a 7.92 RAS. While not a bad score, it pales in comparison to McCaffrey's. Samuel is still coasting on the hype of his 2021 season, which saw him get elected to the Pro Bowl and first All-Pro teams. But that was 4 years ago and he isn't getting any younger. One has to wonder if McCaffrey is really being given a fair shake here? Given how similar his trajectory is to other White WRs who have been railroaded over the years, I think not.

MLB Kain Medrano is a new addition to the team, having been selected in the 6th round of the 2025 NFL draft out of UCLA. He is yet another supremely-talented White athlete with an elite RAS of 9.83, which includes a 4.46 40 yard dash time. Sitting third on the depth chart, it is expected that he will be under the tutelage of starting MLB and probable future Hall-of-Famer Bobby Wagner. There is no doubting that Medrano has the physical tools to excel on the field, but will he be given the opportunity to do so? Only time will tell.

Overall, the 2025 Washington Commanders relapsed from last year's numbers. From 16 White players to 13* and 6 White starters to 3*. Although to be fair, one of those starters is injured. The Commanders went 12-5 last year with a rookie QB and even made it as far as the NFC championship game. Perhaps this will be the year that said QB undergoes the infamous "sophomore slump" and the team fails to match or surpass last year's success. One thing is certain, this year's Commanders are a typical caste product under their typical cast disciple HC and will likely continue to be that for years to come.

Offense:
WR - Luke McCaffrey
TE - Zach Ertz, John Bates, Ben Sinnott, Colson Yankoff
C - Tyler Biadasz
RG - Nick Allegretti, Andrew Wylie

Defense:
WLB - Nick Bellore
MLB - Kain Medrano

Special Teams:
K - Matt Gay
P - Tress Way
LS - Tyler Ott

reserve/PUP List:
G - Sam Cosmi*

Practice Squad:
QB - Sam Hartman
G - Tyler Cooper
C - Michael Deiter

* = G Sam Cosmi will almost certainly be back to a starting role when he is available to play

Number of White starters: 3*
Total number of White players on 53-man active roster: 13*
Grade: F

P.S. I figured that since Cosmi wasn't a part of the active roster when the season started, and won't be allowed back on it until 4 games have been played, he technically should be left out of the count even if he is likely to be a starter when he returns.

With wide receiver Noah Brown missing the contest and Terry McLaurin going out late with a quad issue, this gave offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury the chance to get Luke McCaffrey more involved. The 2024 third-round pick was further down the depth chart than ever after the summer's preparations. He's showing the proper determination to break into the team's plans.

Most of McCaffrey's good work came in garbage time, but it was notable nonetheless. He brought in all three of his targets for 56 receiving yards. The former Rice prospect took his final catch all the way into the end zone to put the exclamation point on proceedings. He also gained 25 yards on his only kick return.
As usual with so many White players it took injuries for Luke to get some snaps in. But boy did he make them count with 3 receptions, 56 yards, and a TD. As of right now, Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown are listed as questionable, so if they're out the Commanders will have no choice but to give Luke more snaps.

I feel like there's a chemistry issue going on between Jayden Daniels and Luke McCaffrey. Luke has had 42 snaps this year. What are the chances that 3 of those would result in some serious production when Marcus Mariota comes in? Luke has been targeted 4 times this year and has fittingly made 4 receptions. It should be obvious to anyone with a working brain that this guy needs to be an offensive mainstay, not a bench player or return specialist.

He's currently listed as a 2nd stringer behind McLaurin in the Commanders 11 personnel base offense. Recall that McLaurin is questionable with a quad injury, so there's a chance we could see Luke start this Sunday against the Falcons.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Redskins decide to play him over McCaffery
Leave it to good ole Washington to look at a 31 year old receiver who had one half-decent year in his entire career. Meanwhile they have a productive White receiver who has excelled every time he's went out on the field. Even if they never do anything with this old codger, why even waste time bringing him in? He's not a mentor or a leader. What a clown show of an organization.

Safety Quan Martin has 8 missed tackles on the season. Stat courtesy of Jon Gruden.

Any outrage from DWFs or BLMers on X?!

defensive blacks *tm* are basically anons to the average DWF, unless they make a “splash play” that’s replayed on espn a bunch of times, that’s why they’re virtually immune from criticism until things get so bad “official accounts” report on them.

with there being so few White dbs, by definition they can’t be anons. combine that with the official narrative that Whites are unathletic, and our guys are ALWAYS in the spotlight and under a microscope, with the slightest flaw always noticed.

Here's a good article wondering (again) why the Commanders refuse to bring along Luke McCaffrey despite his obvious talent, not to mention he was a third round draft pick. The obvious answers we've discussed are Jayden Daniels' refusal to look his way (perhaps out of jealousy or racism), having the notorious Kliff Kucksbury as the offensive coordinator, and Dan Quinn's long history as a reliable Caste Clown.

McLaurin, Samuels and Brown, the team's three leading receivers as far as playing time, are all out for Week 7, so we'll see if Luke is finally utilized as a starter on Sunday. He should be heavily targeted under the circumstances, but we shall see.

Easily the best synopsis of the caste system!

This has honestly ticked me off all afternoon / evening.

Luke is getting the Caste treatment as bad as nearly anyone not named Shipley, Steele or Schrader this season.

I agree. Total BS.

They are both 32 years old. Anderson (Chosen) has had one 1k receiving season coming in 2020. Since then he has been a declining player. Moore's career season was in 2022 when he had 548 receiving yards. Both are still in the league because they are black so they still have some undiscovered "upside" just waiting to be unleashed. Glad the Redskins are 3-4 now.
