2025 Track Results

I know it does appear weird to those unaccustomed to this type of racing.
It really started in little country towns 150+ years ago. Pub talk "our boy can beat your boy". Then imagine the scenes - the bookmakers got into it "he couldn't win it if (so and so) had 2 metres start'....... then everyone got into the act "I'll lay some money down for a piece of that action".
Think of it as horse racing with the metres start being like getting a lower weight in the saddle.
To think of it just as we normally do a track race is to miss the point. It's really quite exciting because there are no foregone conclusions until the race is run.
And it entails a huge number of distances across the board. Interestingly, As a 49/50 year old I was approached by a well known trainer/coach who reckoned he could get me a decent handicap to run in the Apostles Gift over 70m and possibly win himself a bit of cash.

My first time visiting there was in 2015 watching a 16/17 year old upstart called Jack Hale mowing down seasoned pro runners as he tore up the track. He made people there gasp - most people who go to Stawell for the weekend aren't avid track fans so when they see the real speed of track guys it baffles them.
That still gets me as well now because most of what I see isn't live anymore but on a TV screen.
A few seasons ago I was in the front 2 rows in Sydney watching our 4 x 100m team with Browning flying past me on the home straight so quickly - and I noticed how light and quick were his footsteps covering the ground.
We can all forget just how fast running 10 seconds actually looks when you are there beside them.

The fun part about the result is that Gout is still at school while Evans, the winner, is himself a high school teacher.
While not in the class of Lachie Kennedy or Gout Gout, John Evans 11.94 for 120m (ie 110.5m after his handicap is applied) on a slightly uphill wet track is a great performance - it would certainly give him CRED with his pupils LOL
Thanks for the explanation multi. I’m sure many bets have been made throughout the years on stuff like this. I actually like it because it focuses on the athlete improving themselves. If you normally run an 11.5 but are able to run an 11.2 or something like that, you have a shot at winning. As long as the sprinters are lined up properly for their ability.

And yes real speed makes people’s jaw drop when they see it in person on a field or track. Similar to how I have experienced in hockey. The speed of a really good tough men’s league team is pretty fast. But if you get on the ice with professionals or players who were NCAA division 1 level it will blow your mind. It is so much faster than what it looks like on tv and if you aren’t one of them you have zero chance of doing anything productive in a game!

Karsten Warholm sets a world record in the 300-meter hurdles at 33.05. Lachlan Kennedy 5th in the 100 at 10.18. Doom 5th in the 400 at 44.92. Jenna Prandini 3rd in the 200 at 22.97.

Of course they gave Lachlan the outside lane. Oh well, it's good experience for him. He was right in the thick of it. Simbine is just in a class by himself right now.

would have liked to have seen a faster time but he was in lane 10! Still he tied Coleman and Beat Tebogo! He also beat a total of 5 guys who have already gone sub 10! Really the only one who convincingly beat him was Simbine. If he had been given an inner lane he might have gotten 2nd; definitely would have gotten at least third. This result should get him some more races. Hopefully he has a good agent.

16 year old Yujie Chen of China, ran 22.99 from lane 1 at the Xiamen Diamond League to finish right behind Jenna Prandini (22.97) and ahead of Amy Hunt (23.06).

Against that quality field I'm pretty happy where he was. You're right about Simbine, Texas Flash, Freedom 1. He is in a class above everyone at present - after years of "nearly there but not quite".
Intestingly Kennedy was again as in world indoors 1/100th behind 3rd placed Azu. Nothing in it for the placings - it's crowded at the top these days

Yeah that’s a good result for him at this point. The track wasn’t super fast as ouside the winner it was a tightly packed field all running 10.1’s. He is on par with these other guys and should keep improving. The fact that he consistently gets out fast and runs well at this level is very promising. But really, we should have 4 or 5 guys running at this level. It’s just gonna take more time to catch up.
