Lachlan Kennedy (AUS) ran an outdoor 6.43 (+1.6w) 60 meters in Canberra today.
Blazing fast!
 
Elliot Crestan of Belgium ran the fastest ever indoor 600m by a European, with a time of 1:14.92.
He is the Belgium record holder in the 800m, but perhaps they can also use him on their Euro Championships Gold Medal winning 4x400m relay team.

Cam Myers of Australia broke the U20 Indoor Mile WR with a time of 3:53.12.
 
10th fastest in history sounds great by Kennedy but that +1.6mps in an event traditionally run indoors is a bit of a credibility spanner in the works- because it means the event has forever changed.
Taking nothing away from him though, he's our best starter no doubt.
Azzopardi and Despard 6.50s was very good too for those 2 members of our national relay team
Good to see visiting NZer Tian Whelpton ran well too for such a tall man. With that start he could be pushing way past his PB100m time of 10.14 from 2023.

exciting news - having been away on a motorcycle tour this week I never knew about this.

(10 minutes later). so I just found the race on youtube and he told the post race interviewer he was "a bit disappointed with the time". LOL - his first time on boards and a WR

Lachlan Kennedy's 100 PB till now was from last June at 10.20 (+1.9).
Today he came out with a 10.17 (-2.1) as an opener. What does that equate to - a 10.06 still time?
That is a very decent improvement. He's just turned 21 and apparently hitting his straps

Exciting to see. Finally Rohan Browning has some serious competition. That fact that Lachian Kennedy is only 21 makes it even better. I often wonder if Trae Williams hadn't retired if either he or Browing would have gone sub 10 by now? They both had the talent. Many times in sports you need a rival to bring out the best in you. It will either make you or break you. In the case of Jack Hale it broke him sadly.

Logan Popelka of Texas ran 20.77 and 45.97 at Albuquerque (altitude) this weekend.

Brody Buffington also ran a 20.77 200m, in Texas.

Both of these times are very fast for the first month of the season. Very excited that Brody Buffington was finally turned loose. I expect a big
year from him as he was so bummed to sit most of his freshmen year at Georgia.
 
20 year old German Sprinter Heiko Gussman ran a time of 6.58 yesterday. His teammate Kevin Kranz finished an eye lash behind him
in a time of 6.59! Very fast times for both of these young men. Kranz has run fast for several years but Heiko Gussman is a new name
to keep a close eye on.

Finish Sprinter Eino Vuori ran a time of 6.62 for a new personal best.

20 year old Adas Dambrasukas of LIthuanina matched his p.b. with a 6.64.
 
2 more results from Canberra yesterday. Men's 400m Cooper Sherman (45.41) and Tom Reynolds (45.56).
At present 10 Australian men still currently competing have run 45s
We need another sub 3 minute 4 x 400m - and soon. Our record of 2.59.7 dates back to LA 1984
 
apologies. I have posted above Kennedy's 100m run as having a -2.1 wind. It was reported incorrectly initially. It actually had a minus 1.0. So not so stunning but still good improvement

here's a little information on the 2nd place getter in the 60m at Canberra on the weekend - Tiaan Whelpton.
He was born in S'Africa and pursued Rugby Union before switching to track immediately before the family emigrated to Christchurch, New Zealand. After a decent indoor time early in 2024 it appears he didn't compete, perhaps injured.
He's 24 and training with a strength and conditioning coach and with shot putters Tom Walsh (nearly 23m PB) and Nick Palmer (just passed 20m last year) so he says he's a lot stronger and better conditioned now. Shot Putters are known for their explosiveness as we know.

So now he's NZ 60m record holder and expects big things in the 100 this year. He will race against the Australians whenever possible.
His 2x 10.14s in 2023 were both very honest 10.14s so I'm expecting he'll take Nketia's record of 10.08 down in decent conditions

Tiaan Whelpton showed fine form even as a junior in the under 20 and under 18 age groups. I agree with you that he has the potential and the desire to get closer to that magical 10 second barrier. I also like that he is taller as those long strides really eat up the track. It can make up for average starts when you don't always have that great start & drive phase. If he can hold that speed then we should see him at minimum go 10.05 to 10.10 this year with good conditions assuming he stays healthy. Good luck to Tiaan Whelpton. Would be great for New Zealand!
 
interesting that the 2/3/4th place finishers in the mens 60m where white guys. The second place finisher had terrible form but has good wheels, he looked like his chin stayed tucked for 50 of the 60m...
 
here is the Australian men's 60m championship form yesterday in Sydney. It was great to see consistency ... Kennedy's time was officially 6.51 with only a +0.7 and at sea level this time. The track is right next to Parramatta River which is tidal at the end reaches of Sydney Harbour.
I was more excited by the time in these conditions than I was even last week.

Ella Connolly raced a great PB (she trains with Rohan Browning iuunder coach Andrew Murphy).
As of now as we start competing in 60s down under we suddenly have 3 ladies running 7.14, 7.16 and 7.20. Now hopefully some overseas trips to run on the indoor boards. Torrie Lewis 7.14 2nd place finish was run last week in Belgrade so that was her first time indoors.
I'm really excited about how our relay teams, male and female, will improve
