The Chiefs are taking a nosedive this year in terms of white players on the roster only fielding 16 this year which is more in line with the Fat Bastard average over the years. The 16 total is uncanny.

2018: 7 white starters, 16 on the roster
2019: 7/16 (no write ups in 2020 or 2021)
2022: 6/16
2023: 5/16
2024: 6/21

Coach Andy "Fat Bastard" Reid is an undeniably good HC, yet his reputation here at CF is clear indeed. This year's team is different from previous "16" white player rosters in where the players are concentrated. Most FB teams have been caste models with white OL's TE's and special teams. The difference this year and last, for that matter, is the influence of Matt "Rat" Nagy, also a CF favorite over the years. He loves his sumo linemen and so this year we are down to Creed Humphrey in the middle trying to coordinate all of the long-armed talent around him. New LT Josh Simmons actually looks not too terrible for a sumo, but that's all of the good news for OL coach Andy Heck who is like mini "Rat" in his preference and performance. New LG Kingsley Suamateia who replaces all-stud Joe Thuney is worse than you think, RG Trey Smith just got paid after being exposed in the SB, and RT Jawaan Taylor will take another shot at breaking the all-time record for personal foul penalties in a year.

QB Patrick Mahomes will at least have a competent backup QB after being beaten to a pulp every game. Of course if he can get enough zebra help it might be OK ;) TE is a total white affair whether active roster or practice squad. Future HOF Travis Kelce looked good at camp and preseason. Lost some weight and looks faster. Hopefully his engagement to pop powerhouse Taylor (billionaire) Swift will have motivating effect on his game rather than a distraction. Noah Gray is a solid backup and sees a lot of action. Look for Robert Tonyan to be used a lot as a big WR. He was unstoppable in the preseason, seemed to be used kind of like Justin Watson only with more balls coming his way.

Defense is the biggest difference in the makeup of this squad. Steve Spagnuolo, one of the best DC's in the game seems to have a fondness for white guys. George Karlaftis is a solid DE and gets better every year. At LB Drue Tranquil is an every down player, Chenal is used as the 3rd LB and sometimes as a "hybrid" LB/DE and is a game wrecker. Jack Cockrane will spell Nick Bolton if he comes out, but that is rare. I'll be watching for Cooper McDonald as he was spectacular in preseason and was given high praise by the staff. Special teams are unchanged from last year, Winchester one of the best LS in the game, Butker a clutch kicker and "punt god" Araiza.

Total White Athletes on Roster (Starters in bold)
16 Whites total, with 5 starters. Grade: F+

QB - Gardner Minshew
TE - Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Robert Tonyan, Jared Wiley
C - Creed Humphrey, Hunter Nourzad
G - Mike Caliendo

LB - Leo Chenal, Drue Tranquill, Jack Cochrane. Cooper McDonald
DE - George Karlaftis

K - Harrison Butker
P - Matt Araiza
LS - James Winchester

IR - Jake Briningstool (TE), Ethan Driskell (OT)
PS - Cole Christiansen (LB), Ethan Downs (DE), C.J.Hanson (OL), Carson Steele ("FB")

Steele being banished to the practice squad to maybe never return to the active roster of this or any other team is particularly maddening. What talented black player would be benched pretty much permanently after 2 fumbles (and inconsequential ones at that)? He received a few carries after that along with some kickoff returns with decent results and NO MORE fumbles, but it's already too late apparently. The F+ grade for this years Chiefs team is generous and only for the defense.

Entertaining as always. All the White TEs can make a team look a bit more palatable than it actually is. The Bengals are another team with four of them on the roster, which helps cover up the overall direction that team is slowly but inexorably heading.

Looks like Fat Bastard has returned after a year or two absence. The best of Reid is having Spagnuolo as his DC and the worst is having The Rodent as his OC, though all "extremes" when it comes to the Caste System and how ironclad it's been for so long are not all that far apart. With Steele and Justin Watson gone, the three White starters on defense are the only players left to root for along with Kelce. Creed Humphrey is one of the best at his position and he'll need to be in top form keeping the "long arms" lined up properly. :risas3:

I paid a fair amount of attention to this team during camp and the preseason and it's pretty much all on Mahomes and the defense. The offensive line is offensive. LG Kingley Suamateia is bad. He's a blown 2nd round pick and is one of the worst players that I've seen. Taylor on the RT side is famous for his early starts, holding and being gloriously overpaid and bad. RB core is one Pacheco injury away from being non-existent. Don't even get me started on the fragile WR core. Lots of speed that will be sitting on the sidelines injured. 2nd year man Xavier Worthy might prove me wrong as I predicted he'd bust, but he's not nearly as good as Ladd McConkey who the Chiefs could have drafted.

Oh, the DL on this team is not very good. Bad against the run, on passing downs teams double Chris Jones and chip Karlaftis and they have all day. They'll be a decent team as the league on average isn't very good but it would take a Mahomes miracle to get this team back to the AFC CG, let alone the SB.

Is there any need on Caste Football for someone to denigrate Mahomes as overhyped because he is black or something? :)

Seriously I love watching Sumos give us the turnstile technique, long arms flailing about kind of like the new Olympic sport of jazz hands.

Mahomes doesn’t bother me. He clearly leans into his whiteness, at least from what I have seen.

Andy Reid is getting less tolerable with his treatment of Steele. Nagy is one of the worst of the worst… still cannot forgive nor forget his active roll and desire to see Ryan Nall never see the field.

Fat Bastard can't activate Carson Steele

Yeah, I figure this offseason Steele will be quietly released and we'll probably never hear from him again. No margin of error for white players in verboten positions.

He should’ve stayed in school. GD
Nall, Steele, Borghi, Shipley....
All came out early.....I’m forgetting a few.
Luke Staley. Ugghhh

Every player that finishes the season on a practice squad becomes an immediate free agent, so Carson Steele is free to leave Kansas City. Of course, that's assuming the Chiefs want him back? Perhaps they have no plans to sign him, even if he wants to return? And, honestly, why in the world would he want to return?

Usually, non-playoffs teams place several players on IR once the season is "lost" in order to lock valued practice squad assets onto their 90 man roster going forward. Chiefs IR'd several stalwarts (and backups) to open room, but Carson didn't get a sniff. They even, as Leo noted, took a Texans P-Squad tailback over him. Carson made $243,450 this season relegated to the practice squad. Career earnings have been $1,038,450.

Going forward, I believe, if Carson Steele wants to stay in the league, he needs to be a Christian 2.0! And I'm not referring to Christian McCaffrey, I'm thinking more about Bob Christian!

I don't remember Bob as a star collegian or his early years with the Bears, but he was a talented halfback that was eventually stacked at blocking fullback. He persevered and floated around the fringes of rosters for a while, but eventually got to run (and catch) the ball quite a bit at the end of his career. All things considered, he had a fine career, taking into account where he started and how tough the Caste system was and still is. Best, modern day, example of Bob Christian might be Hunter Luepke.

That's Steele's only way back -- being "stacked" at fullback. These days, that means blocking fullback. His days as a power tailback are likely over. Not only did the Chiefs not sign Carson off their p-squad, none of the other 31 teams signed him. Their was zero demand for him.

One issue for Steele, is only about 13 NFL teams even use a blocking fullback. But a wise team like the 49ers, Vikings, Patriots, Bills, Dolphins or Jets could bring him in as a traditional fullback, then ease him into a more important role, like the Falcons did with Bob Christian. Peyton Hillis, of course, started the same way in Denver.

Man the initial hype for Steele was great. That turned to **** quickly and is now fighting for his life in the NFL.. I hope he can follow the Bob Christian/Hunter Luepke path and cash in some NFL checks for a while!

The Steele screwjob is pure caste BS. Not letting him play the last few games of a lost season really hinders his long term chances in the league.

It sounds like Spagnuolo is interviewing for some head coaching positions. He is 66 years old so this would be his last chance to be a head coach if he wants. Really hope he leaves as he has been one of the best defensive coordinators.

Mahomes looked a step slower this year along with sloppier overall play and coming off a torn ACL the Chiefs decline could be permanent which is fine by me.

Hoping Steele can catch on somewhere, San Francisco next season?

Wouldn’t mind Spagnuolo getting another HC shot. Maybe he can bring Leo Chenal along with him!

Mahomes had more rushing yards this year and a higher YPC that he had any other year despite being injured and missing the last few games. He certainly wasn't step slower. Mahomes issues stem from lack of trust in the blocking schemes, receiver routes and RB play. He's a nervous, tentative QB with happy feet, a shell of what he was just a few years ago before the Matt Nagy curse. The fact the Chiefs won anything is a testament. I guarantee if Nagy returns as OC then you can certainly write Mahomes off, because he will have been destroyed by Rodent Nagy like Mitch Trubisky and all of the other QB's he's been in charge of.

Spags leaving would certainly doom them even further as the D has been the only area of consistency the last 3 years. Can't say that it wouldn't serve Fat Bastard right.

Oh, and don't even get me started on Carson Steele. It seems that most Chiefs X posters agree. I get more likes and comments from Steele posts than about any other player.

3. RB Carson Steele

Steele was a fun story a season ago, making Kansas City's 2024 roster as an undrafted rookie free agent. Fans embraced the underdog narrative and badly wanted Steele to become a consistent contributor out of the KC backfield. Instead, Steele only offered 183 rushing yards with his longest rush being nine yards out of 56 carries. This underwhelming production resulted in Steele being placed on the practice squad the following season and being given zero chance to impact the KC backfield.

Adding to his issues, Steele fumbled twice early in 2024 and brought some obvious ball security concerns. This added to why the Chiefs didn't give Steele a chance in 2025 despite having zero consistent answers in its backfield. This was a glaring sign as possible that the Chiefs are getting ready to move on.

If you're unable to contribute to the 2025 Kansas City backfield, there is a great chance you don't belong on an NFL roster. This is especially true for a practice squad piece whose great story appears to be coming to a predictably sad end.

Nice replies by all! Above is Steele's write up by some DWF (I assume?) from a K.C. Chiefs fan site. Topic was three practice squad players not expected back.

Steele was only 22 years old last season. How many black, UDFA running backs fail to "light it up" coming into the NFL, but still have a chance to show improvement the next year?

Steele averaged 3.3 yards per carry in 2024, which is not ideal, but not horrid and not unusual for a young, developing player. Also, Carson was frequently asked to convert 3 and 1's or 4th and short. The DWF makes it seem like his 3.3. yards per carry and lack of a token big gain give credence to the fact that Carson does "not belong on an NFL roster"

Let's take it further: How many drafted rookie running backs don't "light it up" coming into the NFL, but don't get the tag of "not belonging on an NFL roster", like Carson did? I guess if a White RB doesn't average over 4.0 YPC right of the bat, he should be gone forever?

How about the 2025 rookie class? Cam Skattebo was over 4.0 YPC, as were some others.

But the following were all below 3.8 yards per carry: A. Jeanty (6th overall pick); Q. Judkins (36th overall), R.J. Harvey (60th overall), W. Marks and B. Tuten (both 4th round), J. Blue, D. Neal. How about Brashard Smith's 3.4 average? He replaced Steele's 3.3 average on fatso's roster? Should Smith be exiled or did he display incredible "upside" last season:afro:

Following drafted rookie RB's averaged less than 2.9 YPC: O. Gordon, Kaleb Johnson (3rd round), T. Brooks, D. Sampson (4th round). Should they, effectively, be banned from the NFL or given a chance to improve as sophomore's?

Could've named a few more, but.... Actually, more black, rookie RB's averaged less than 3.8 YPC than those that were above 4.0!

Carson's rookie season was not totally out the norm, particularly as an NFL early entry. Tyrone Tracey of the Giants fumbled 5 times as a rookie and never lost his lost his starting job.

P.S: Don't bother asking me about Tennessee "legend" Eddie George, who averaged 3.3. YPC through his last 5 years in the NFL?
