Hall of Famer
Houston really bottomed out last year demographically. Unless they were planning on applying for HBCU status, there is only one direction to go....Let's see if this years' Texans will be slightly more enjoyable than a root canal.
Number of White starters: 2
Number of White players on 53 man roster: 11
Grade: F
QB: Davis Mills, Graham Mertz
WR: Justin Watson, Braxton Berrios
TE: Dalton Schultz, Cade Stover
C: Jake Andrews, Jarrett Patterson
WLB: Jake Hansen
P: Tommy Townsend
LS: Austin Brinkman
PUP: Kurt Hinish (DT)
Practice squad: Harrison Bryant (TE), Eli Cox (C), Reid Holskey (OT), Luke Lachey (TE), Jackson Woodard (LB)
The Texans increase their overall number of White athletes by 3 but this is still an odious Caste squad that is hopefully dethroned from winning the division again.
Davis Mills returns as the backup once again, who'll likely never get another chance to start unless Stroud gets hurt. And speaking of Stroud, after his great rookie year he really took a nosedive in year 2. He ranked 24th in traditional QB rating and the team really won in spite of him. But hope springs eternal in the mainstream sports media (MSSM) with black QBs, so I'm sure they still think he's the next Montana. However in Mr Stoud's defense, he had to line up behind an all-sumo line last year! Now some kosher writer would tell you that would be a good thing, but unfortunately for the lox-n-bagel-munchers we can see the results with our own eyes. Last's years line was one of, if not the worst, in the NFL. A quick search of rankings for this year puts them at dead last in 3 major polls. Ha! I'm sure if that comes to fruition, new starting center Jake Andrews will be blamed. Andrews is a good player who escaped New England's recent plantation for an equally black or worse squad. Poor guy, at least he makes millions of dollars and can live in a nice Houston suburb.
Other offensive contributors are TE Dalton Schultz who's in his 8th NFL season already. He's good for 500-600 yards and some TDs each year. Not great but very good. The most positive change from last year to this year is the addition of not one, but two White wide receivers! Justin Watson comes over from a good run with the Chiefs to provide depth. We'll have to see if he's used at all. He's 2nd string on a team that primarily uses a 3-receiver set. The other White man is Braxton Berrios who excels as a slot receiver and returner. He seems buried on the WR chart so I'm guessing he only made it because he will be their primary punt returner and in the mix for kick returns. He's definitely explosive and shifty and should be one of the better return men the league this year. Graham Mertz made it as the 3rd QB. I'm surprised he made the cut with an up and down preseason similar to his college career. Would he qualify as a rare "White upsider"?
Jake Hansen returns as the token White defender for another year. Serviceable but likely never get the opportunity to be anything more than a WSTD. I wonder if he's lonely in defensive meetings or at the lunch table during practice....Maybe PS LB Jackson Woodard will get elevated at some point. Total beast at UNLV and another WTM (White tackling machine).
The Texans are still No Country for White Men. I miss the days of Gary Kubiak when the Texans actually had alot of White athletes to support and follow....
