2025 Defensive Backs

Is it only possible for a white cornerback to play at Iowa? Kinda seems that way

Yes, SneakyQuick, sure does seems that way. Iowa's Riley Moss (2024) broke a drought of White starting CB's that spanned well over two decades. Then Iowa's Cooper DeJean comes along the next draft and makes All-Pro at CB in 2025.

Now, both Lutmer and Nestor are considered possible NFL picks at CB. Lutmer, rated higher, plays at Iowa; Nestor spent 2 years at Iowa, before leaving for Minnesota. Yes, this is getting really weird? :copas:

What's even weirder, is Oregon's safety star Koi Perich is absolutely athletic enough to play CB and projected a likely first round pick. He choose Minnesota over Iowa coming out of high school. Spent 2 years with Gophers before leaving for a huge N.I.L. "bag" from Nike's Phil Knight. Perhaps Minnesota is starting to rival the Hawkeyes for White CB's?

Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck has publicly stated he'd like to model Minnesota similar to Iowa? And he's had significant success, at least compared to other Gopher's coach's over several decades.

While looking through FCS stats I came across another White DB for Murray State - Dylan Rowsey. He is currently second in the FCS in tackles with 122 total (76 solo/46 assist) along with an INT and a forced fumble. Murray State stinks - they are winless this season but perhaps this kid might get some looks in the portal. He also won the defensive player of the year for the community college conference he played in in 2024.

Rowsey entered the portal back in January and committed to Louisville only to decommit, re-enter the portal and then pull out of the portal. Looks like he will be at Murray State again in 2026.
