2025 College Football Week One

Tight end Marlin Klein 3-54 and a TD for Michigan in the first half. Looks solid and will most likely play on Sundays.

Clemson offense team is doing nothing, they changed little from last year.
Without most reliable TE, they look like Iowa when facing elite defense.

The Weeks brothers #40 & #33 = Devastation Incorporated at Linebacker for LSU!
Youngest bro Zach may be the best (should be Sr in HS)
Can't believe they took away that NFL caliber TD from Nuss.....

Texas State RB Lincoln Pare 167 YARDS RUSHING on 12 carries & TD

ODU QB Colton Joesph 179 Yards Rushing on just 10 carries & 2 TDs

Kent State WR Cole Wolford 2 catches 109 yards receiving 2 TDs

Along with Pare (who also had a 20 yard catch) Brad Jackson went 10-48 on the ground and Beau Sparks had 4 TDs 7-82 receiving

This seems to be Clemson's MO. They start the season off slow and then get going. The first few weeks of the season can be a bit misleading. I give credit to the teams that scheduled these types of matchups early rather than just going out against a lower level FBS or an FCS team.

More FCS....
Unranked Presbyterian College upset 11th ranked Mercer 15-10!
PC QB Collin Hurst was 25/38-303 yards passing and a TD!
PC RB Zach Switzer had the game winning TD run of 16 yards!
He finished with 9 carries for 37 yards, 1 TD
Also, Switzer had 2 rec/35 yards
PC WR Dominic Kibby 9 rec/114 yards

Looks like most of the skill positions for Mercer were black with the exception of WR Brayden Smith.
Smith had 4 rec/56 yards.

New Hampshire QB Matt Vezza thew for 186 yards and 2 TD's
Vezza ran for 36 yards as NH beat HBC NC Central 27-10.

Troy QB Will Crowder threw 3 TD's and ran for another. 144 yards passing and 43 rushing on 7 carries.

SD State WR Lofton O'Groske- 5 rec/76 yards and 3 rushing for 31 yards!
SD State QB Chase Mason 190 yards passing and a TD

Southern Illinois RB Jimmy Athans looks like a smaller version of Carson Steele 5'8/192- 4 carries 32 yards!

So, I was able to catch some of the South Carolina/Virginia Tech game and was not impressed. The state of Virginia can't find any QB's better than Kyron Drones? They went all the way to Houston Texas to get Drones. He was 15/35 and 2 INT's against a mediocre USC team! He did rush 12 times for 26 yards and 221 yards passing mostly late in the game.
Then there's LaNorris Sellers for USC. A big QB who all the announcers were lusting over what specimen he is. He was a little better against a terrible VA. Tech team. 12/19 209. He rushed for 25 yards on 13 carries while the announcers again were talking about how elusive he was and how he could hurt you with his ability to run. Really? 1.9 yards per rush! He only got 25 yards because of the inability of the Tech defenders to make basic tackles. Nothing personal here, but I expected more from these two QB's. But never fear. The announcers were of course there for an excuse for these two. Stating the defense is usually ahead of the offense early in the season.
Sense yesterday all I've heard was how Arch Manning's debut was a dud. He is in danger of becoming a bust. Ok, let's take a look. Manning goes into Columbus Ohio to face the third ranked team in the country for his very first start and yes his start is a little shaky, but considering what he faced he played ok. Going17/30 with a couple bad throws, but there was a couple passes that should have been caught. He threw for 170 yards and 1 TD against 1 INT. He also showed his elusiveness by scrambling for 38 yards on 10 carries. No mention of the offense being behind the defense. Just that Manning didn't look the part. I'm predicting Manning will bounce back and become a great QB. I also think Sellers has the ability to be better as well.
But Sellers is already great despite having mediocre performance and numbers, and against a terrible team. While Manning is a dud with mediocre numbers against a very good Ohio State team who could win another National Championship.

Well said. It's all about pushing a specific agenda and narrative. I would agree that offenses take a few weeks to get going. The teams that scheduled cupcakes in week one have an advantage in getting up to speed and putting up big numbers initially. Manning's test yesterday will only make him better in the long run. He faced a very good defense and struggled but made some promising plays. In his limited time last year he played very well.

LSU, OSU, Texas and Clemson all put up great defensive performances yesterday.

The WSU Idaho game was an offensive disaster, but it featured Kirby Vorhees as the top back for WSU. A random black had more carries but somehow managed to get -4 yards on 10 attempts. Vorhees caught a handful of passes too. WSUs QB Jaxon Potter was oddly incredibly efficient going 23 for 30 for 208 and 1.

Idaho rotated around multiple backs, one being Hayden Kincheloe who went 5-12 and Art Williams who went 11-35 and with a TD. Idaho trotted out a back RB named Elisha who average 2.4 ypc, they seem to run the ground game through their QB who lead the team in rushing by far, and rotate a few backs throughout.

When checking boxscore of MTST vs Oregon I found Taco Dowler (MTST) had 12 rec/ 107 yds, he had 11 TD last season, and a career game on Saturday.

Kyler Kasper also had a 40 yard reception. He’s 6’6” and Kevin Kaspers son, he’s gonna get a shot in the NFL I bet regardless of production. Reminds me of Tammer Mcevoy

Yes i put Kasper in the WR Stat line for Oregon in the above post; this is a make or break year for him

Anything stand out Week 1? Impressed that many 100 + yard rushers? and 100+ yard receivers??
Or just another run-of-the-mill week??

Thanks for the head's up. White boy named Taco lol; forgot about him looking at RB Adam Jones being held n check

The FBS looks like it had the more impressive week. FCS RBs look slim pickings
