Since 2005 Pitt has started 8, 8, 8, 9, 9, 11, 11, 10, 9, 7, 8, 6, 10, 4, 6, 6, and 5 Whites. Going mostly by OurLads, which seems to have the most current depth chart, this year sees a bump up to 7.
QB Phil Jurkovec is a senior transfer who played at nearby Pine-Richland High School, a program I have written about a few times as it's a large overwhelmingly White suburban school that has been dominant in Pennsylvania high school football for the past half-dozen years but "for some reason" few of its stars are recruited by the major college programs. Jurkovec transfers to Pitt from Notre Dame and Boston College. At 6'5" and 235 pounds he's a huge quarterback and becomes the starter after Kedon Slovis transfered to BYU after previously transfering to Pitt from USC. Jurkovec started 24 games for BC over the past three seasons while battling injuries and threw for over 5,000 yards with a TD to Int. ratio of 35/17 and a QB rating of 138.
The o-line has improved to 4/5 White. Junior Gavin Bartholomew returns at tight end.
On defense, Devin Danielson is the starter at LT. He was in a fight for the position last year and finally appears to have won it going into his senior year.
RDE Nate Temple is listed as second string at his position, the only White listed on the two-deep besides Danielson.
The second and third string TEs are both Black. Ryan Baer is the only second string White o-lineman. Redshirt sophomore Peter Vardzel is listed as a fouth string WR, or about tenth in the pecking order. Overall a typical Pitt team, as always refusing to recruit the wealth of White talent in Western PA except at QB, TE and O-line.
QB: Phil Jurkovec
LG: Ryan Jacoby
C: Jake Kradel
RG: Blake Zubovic
RT: Matt Goncalves
