Mississippi State has started 1, 2, 2, 3, 5, 5, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 1, 1, 3, 3, and 3 whites. This year they bump up to match their all time high of a paltry 5.
The eccentric Mike Leach passed away last year. For all his faults, Leach only ever recruited white QBs anywhere he was. MS State was no exception, but his death lead to an exodus at the QB position. Daniel Greek, Sawyer Robertson and Braedyn Locke, all recruited by Leach, transferred out after last season. Starter Will Rogers is the only one remaining. He should continue to put up big numbers in Zach Arnett's Aid Raid offense. Arnett looks to be only recruiting black quarterbacks exclusively, so this team will get back to its 1-2 starters shortly.
Two lone bright spots on offense are TE Ryland Goede and WR Creed Whittemore. UGA transfer Goede should get looks in two TE sets while Whittemore has apparently already cracked the rotation as a true freshman.
On defense, the SEC's leading tackler, Jett Johnson, returns. He is the lone white contributor. DE Jack Harris, the other scholarship player from last year, apparently didn't take his COVID year. Walk-on and occasional starter Sherman Timbs exhausted his eligibility. MS State is returning to its roots after this year. I expect around 3 starters in the future.
Offense -
QB - Will Rogers
TE - Ryland Goede
RG - Steven Losoya
C - Cole Smith
Defense -
LB - Jett Johnson
Back ups include LG Jakson Lahue, RG Grant Jackson, C Wesley Davis, and WR Creed Whittemore.
