Since 2005, SMU has started 8, 8, 11, 10, 10, 10, 10, 9, 9, 9, 10, 5, 8, 7, 8, 8, and 9 white starters. In 2022 they could be up to 8 depending on OL battles.

On offense, Tanner Mordecai returns after a good season last year as a first year starter where he accounted for 41 TD’s. RB’s TJ McDaniel and Tyler Lavine should see plenty of touches, Lavine will probably be the receiving back. I noticed Lavine is now listed at 212lbs after being 220+ the last few seasons. UNC transfer Beau Corrales (1176 yards, 12 TD at UNC) will finally get the starting opportunity he deserves, he will miss at least the first game with injury (missed all of 2021 with injury). TE Ben Redding takes over for Grant Calcaterra who was drafted by the Eagles. LG Joe Bissinger is the only OL on the depth chart without an OR next to his name. The rest of the guys are all toss ups on who will be the starters.

On defense, DE Turner Coxe returns for his 5th season as a starter with 44 career starts under his belt. Like Corrales, he will miss at least the first game with an injury. He is the only white player on the defensive depth chart.

OFFENSE
QB Tanner Mordecai
WR Beau Corrales
TE Ben Redding
LG Joe Bissinger
C Branson Hickman*
RG Ben Sparks*
RT Owen Condon*

DEFENSE
DE Turner Coxe

Players to watch:
QB Preston Stone, RB TJ McDaniel, RB Tyler Lavine, TE Gage Haskin, OT Thalen Robinson, OT Dalton Perdue, OG Cameron Ervin

Watching SMU right now and have been following them all season. The new coaching staff doesn’t let McDaniel or Lavine play at all. Not sure if McDaniel is injured or what, he hasn’t recorded a single touch since September 17th against Maryland.

Lavine has been demoted to 5th or 6th RB, I guess 777 yards from scrimmage and 8 TD’s the past 2 seasons aren’t good enough to even see the field with this new coaching staff.

Stud DE Turner Coxe retired last month.

There are 8 receivers with more catches/yards than Beau Corrales (3 for 40 yards). He put up a 80-1176-12 stat line at UNC before coming to SMU.

Probably the biggest bust of a team so far this season. Had high hopes and every exciting player has been essentially eliminated from contributing.

I'm glad they are losing with demoting those running backs for no reason. Hope they continue to stink up the joint.
